Posted May 25, 20187 yr England's first game of the World Cup 2018 tournament is against Tunisia. The game is live on BBC. Please use this thread for speculation, pre and post match chat on the England game.
June 3, 20187 yr Author I can see this being a 1-1 draw with England conceding a goal in the 89th minute.
June 17, 20187 yr Author 3-1 to Tunisia Odds of 125-1 for that, Michael. Good luck to you if you are putting a bet on that.
June 17, 20187 yr I'd happily take that over a repeat of our infamous game against Algeria in 2010
June 17, 20187 yr We haven't won our opening game in a World Cup tournament since 2006 (and that was because of an own goal) and the last time we scored more than once in it was in 1998. Would be nice to overturn those pretty dire statistics, but the pessimist in me sees it being something like 1-0 to England. Edited June 17, 20187 yr by Doctor Blind
June 17, 20187 yr Author Where can I put a bet on for that? At any betting shop just write down the score e.g. Tunisia to win 3-1.
June 17, 20187 yr I suspect we will win, but won't make it easy. Probably a 1-0 or 2-0 victory, cue supporters and the media thinking we have a shot of winning the competition! Can't see it myself, too many weak links and our better players never seem to be consistent.
June 17, 20187 yr Author If it is a defeat that will be the first time since Euro 96 that Southgate will face negative media. Did anyone see The Impossible Job - England Manager at all this evening just out of interest?
June 17, 20187 yr If it is a defeat that will be the first time since Euro 96 that Southgate will face negative media. Did anyone see The Impossible Job - England Manager at all this evening just out of interest? Yeah I literally just finished watching it on the iPlayer, it brought back some childhood memories for me and reminded me that the England manager's job is almost like being the Prime Minister of a country. It made me wonder how long Gareth Southgate will last in the job, if England get knocked out before the Quarter finals it would be hard to imagine him staying in the job. Also I saw that the bitterness of Sam Allardyce is still very strong but it was his own fault that he lost the England manager's job.

Unless we get knocked out at the group stages, Southgate will stay on as manager. If we get to the QF it is the best we will have done in a World Cup for 12 years!
June 18, 20187 yr Could I put like a small 1/2 pound bet on it? I'm fairly certain Tunisia will win although everyone else I know seems to think they have a chance of winning after seeing how badly everyone else has played  It'll be Portugal v Mexico in the final

I'm a pessimistic England fan, but absolutely no way I cannot see England winning. It won't be the pasting lots of people are expecting, but compared to Mexico/Switzerland this Tunisia team are way behind.
