Andrew's ReviewNow That’s What I Call Music! 68 or Now 68 was released in late 2007 featuring 44 tracks and 6 UK #1 singles. On this volume we were able to hear artists like Sean Kingston, Robyn, The Hoosiers, Scouting For Girls, Amy MacDonald, Freemasons and Nicole Scherzinger (as a solo artist) for the first time in the series.

Once again all eligible #1 singles were included on the compilation meaning less popular omissions were made. Some noteworthy names who were not so fortunate to be included on this volume included 50 Cent, Beyoncé, Natasha Bedingfield, Hard-Fi, Oasis, Eve and Gym Class Heroes to name a few.

This would be the only volume in the series to feature one hit wonders from the likes of Se:Sa, Ida Corr, Axwell, Freaks, Peter Gelderblom, Plain White T’s, Newton Faulkner, Feist and Peter, Bjorn & John.

Artwork Rating: 9/10 Amazing

What a joyous bubblegum design featuring various candies or different shapes and colours. Probably the best “cover featuring multiple coloured objects surround a logo” design ever made.

Disc 1 Favourite: Timbaland feat. D.O.E. & Keri Hilson – The Way I Are

Probably the highlight of Timbaland’s career for me. Just a great #1 single and where we were introduced to the vocals of Keri Hilson for the first time.

Disc 2 Favourite: The Hoosiers – Worried About Ray

A very catchy debut single from The Hoosiers who went on to have two other hits of a similar comedic nature which were just as catchy.

Disc 3 Tracklist:

(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. 50 Cent feat. Justin Timberlake & Timbaland – Ayo Technology 4:07 {2}

2. Gym Class Heroes – Clothes Off!! 3:40 {5}

3. Hard-Fi – Suburban Knights 4:29 {7}

4. Arctic Monkeys – Fluorescent Adolescent 2:57 {5}

5. Oasis – Lord Don’t Slow Me Down 3:20 {10}

6. Foo Fighters – The Pretender 4:27 {8}

7. The Enemy – You’re Not Alone 3:41 {18}

8. Jack Peñate – Second, Minute Or Hour 3:05 {17}

9. The Wombats – Lets Dance To Joy Division 3:01 {15}

10. Orson – Ain’t No Party 3:19 {21}

11. Reverend & The Makers – He Said He Loved Me 2:53 {16}

12. Yves Larock – Rise Up 2:50 {13}

13. Armand Van Helden – I Want Your Soul 3:15 {19}

14. Beyoncé – Green Light (Freemasons Remix) 3:19 {12}

15. Booty Luv – Don’t Mess With My Man 2:55 {11}

16. Amerie – Gotta Work 3:11 {21}

17. Eve – Tambourine 3:12 {18}

18. Kanye West feat. T-Pain – Good Life 3:27 {23}

19. Kano feat. Craig David – This Is The Girl 4:10 {18}

20. Mario – How Do I Breathe 3:37 {21}

21. Rihanna feat. Ne-Yo – Hate That I Love You 3:38 {15}

22. Natasha Bedingfield – Soulmate 3:32 {7}

23. Backstreet Boys – Inconsolable 3:36 {24}

----------

Total time: 1:19:41

Overall Rating: 9/10 Amazing

There are so many good things to say about this volume, and it stands out for me as being one of the best volumes of the 21st century for many reasons, but most importantly the quality of music within this volume is very high. Great to see many artists at the peak of their careers too. Also proof that downloads were beginning to impact the charts with a chartworthy inclusion for Phil Collins with his trending single In The Air Tonight used in what would become a famous advert for Cadbury’s. A couple of replacements would have possibly made this my 10/10.

Excellent disc 1

Went for Peter Gelderblom on disc 1. Excellent Red Hot Chili peppers sampling tune tune which I think I remember from the time and liked.

'I Found U' is also brill and so is 'The Way I Are'. 'Love Is Gone', '2 Hearts', 'Valerie', 'Shut Up And Drive' and 'Sexy No No' are all good too imo!

Disc 2 isn't so good. Went for Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry which brings back memories from the time as it was everywhere back then! Aside from 'Hey There Delilah', 'Tears Dry On Their Own' and 'Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)' I don't know many of the other songs and 'Uninvited' is not as good as the earlier Freemasons songs or 'When You Touch Me' for me.

Edited by Auld Long Snake

This always reminds me of my first term of uni. About You Now and Hold On were my picks.

Went for Robyn on Disc 1 and Freemasons on Disc 2.

Such a great volume filled with so many amazing hits!

Brilliant Disc1. Went for Robyn, but Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse, Take That and The Sugababes were close!

Did you know that Tired Of Being Sorry was originally by a band called Ringside.

I remember hearing the original version before Enrique covered it. Though I didn't know who it was by and what the track was at the time.

I Want Your Soul by Armand van Helden is amazing from your disc 3 awardinary. Should have made the album imo.
  • 4 weeks later...

Disc one:

1 Ida Corr vs Fedde Le Grand - Let Me Think

2 Kanye West - Stronger

3 Robyn & Kleerup - With Every Heartbeat

4 Britney Spears - Gimme More

5 Timbaland - The Way I Are

6 David Guetta - Love Is Gone

7 Freaks - The Creeps

8 Peter Gelderblom - Waiting 4

9 Axwell feat Max'C - I Found U

10 Rihanna - Shut Up and Drive

such a good disc one I have to pick ten highlights. the only bad song here is No U Hang Up.

Disc two:

1 Freemasons - Uninvited

2 Akon - Don't Matter

3 Feist - 1234

4 Peter Bjorn & John - Young Folks

5 Amy Winehouse - Tears Dry On Their Own

and it's disc two we see a lot more of the filler but quite a few good songs here too

Worst:

1 McFly - The Heart Never Lies [awful as you'd expect]

2 Nicole Scherzinger - Baby Love [no wonder her career got off to such a non start initially]

3 Shayne Ward - No U Hang Up

4 Stereophonics - It Means Nothing [already forgotten it again]

5 The Killers - Tranquillize [a rare mis-step for The Killers, quite boring]

(6 Westlife - Home) [feels wrong to put this outside top five but it helps that they covered a good song here]

shoutout to Dream Catch Me and Worried About Ray which aren't necessarily bad, but got ruined by overplay and are generally overrated.
