I really really want M&S to win but no doubt it will be the XX <_<

The favourite doesn't always win.

Very disappointing list of nominees, I always like to find a couple of artists/albums I've not heard of, but there doesn't seem to be much of that going on this year.

Laura Marling should've won with 'Alas, I Cannot Swim' but 'I Speak Because I Can' is nowhere near as good, imo.

i agree Laura Marling should of won a few years ago, but not this year, I definatly think Foals, But the prize is a complete joke anyway, im surprised how many people care/still care, especially how horrific it has been the last 5 years.

Surprised not to see Plan B on the list. I think Mumford & Sons will walk it, also XX could be in contention.

Does the favourite EVER win? The Mercury always struck me as the sort of prize that purposely never awarded it to the favourite in an attempt to show it was THAT alternative. Hence almighty fuck-ups like awarding it to Klaxons/Speech Debelle etc.

That said, I think it's going to be either The XX this year. Or one of the bands I've never heard of.

If this prize worked, Mumford or The xx will win.

However it doesn't, so I'm putting a hypothetical £1,000,000 on Kit Downes Trio.

The XX have been made the early favourites to win. When was the last time the early favourite actually went on to win the Mercury Music Prize. I know that Spelle Debelle and Elbow weren't the faves to win. Possibly Arctic Monkeys in 2006?

Wild Beasts please <3. Two Dancers is very close to faultless. This is by far the worst track just to demonstrate how amazing it is:

I think it's quite a decent list of nominees to be honest. Four albums which I love, four which aren't really my thing, a couple I've not heard (yet) and a couple I've not heard of....

The list is really underwhelming to me. You can't grumble at M&S, The xx, Villagers and (especially) Wild Beasts but the others are just so disappointing, I can't help but feel that we simply must have produced better albums over the past year than the list suggests.

I must be the only one who can't abide Wild Beasts. Is that bloke taking the p*** or what with his vocals.

I think the winners will be either The XX or Mumford.

I predicted a Mumford & Sons victory months ago. Hopefully they will win because they deserve the career boost that Elbow enjoyed in 2008. Their album has peaked at no. 6 in the UK yet has already been no. 1 in Australia and maybe Ireland?

I only like the title track. I haven't heard anything else I liked but I haven't heard the whole album.

The judges try to produce a reasonably diverse short list. That means it's highly unlikely anyone will like every album on the list. I haven't heard the Foals album yet which means that, at the moment, I want the Mumfords to win.

We've got to remember, this is the awards panel that voted for Gomez (?!?!) over Massive Attack's Mezzanine..... and something even worse (can't remember) over Back to Black....

Pretty safe list - funny to see Biffy Clyro even considered... WTF? The glaring omission for me is 'Black Light' by Groove Armada - a stunning return to form..... Mercury hates 'dance' acts, though.....

Out of that list, Laura Marling all the way for me, even if her last album is pretty patchy and samey.

Mumford and Sons to win, they deserve it and would give them a much needed boost like Elbow got

I dont know who the XX are so I dont want them to win, I hope an unknown act doesnt win

The XX album has had a couple brief appearances in the top 40. After last year I can't see them going for an unknown act again this year.

Agreed, although they've been playlisted by Radio 1. I don't really see the fuss about the XX to be honest, they seem to be a big bland. Perhaps it's the sort of thing that will click eventually.

I'm hoping for a victory for Wild Beasts (even though they do remind me of Geneva), although I suppose Villagers would be worthy winners as well. I still think that they've gone for a 'safe' list this year to avoid the Speech Debelle fiasco, there's only one act this year that I'm unfamiliar with, which either reflects on how obvious the choices are, or how much my musical knowledge has grown (hopefully the latter, most likely the former).

The nominees are:

Biffy Clyro

Villagers

Wild Beasts

Dizzee Rascal (WTF?)

Laura Marling

The XX

Foals

Paul Weller

I Am Kloot

Corrine Bailey Rae

Mumford and Sons

Kit Downes Trio

A very safe list this year, as if they're trying not to get a repeat of the Speech Debelle fiasco last year.

The XX so deserve to win - Epic album that will sell for years to come, Other than them i'd be happy to see Biffy Clyro, Mumford & Sons or Foals win  Worst winners would be Dizzee Rascal or Laura Marling :puke2:
