Roksopp Feat. Robyn - The Girl & The Robot

This still jumps to mind today. Amazing track and it never went anywhere, no idea how :(

Sonny J's 'Can't Stop Moving' is a great summer track which had the misfortune to be released in one of the worst summers ever, and went nowhere. It sneaked in at #40 at least when re-issued in 2008, but still deserved a way better position.

MGMT's 'Time To Pretend' was massive and it never got higher than #35, although it hung around the lower top 75 for ages so probably sold better than some top 10 hits in the end...

Lady Sovereign 'So Human'!

Danny Byrd 'Ill Behaviour' and 'Tonight' could have been big drum and bass hitsm he's much better than Pendulem but flopped compared to them chartwise. IB peaked at 36, and Tonight is missing top 100, not to mention his second single also missed top 100 and 'Tonight' is his third

IB was the second single from RD - the first was 'Sweet Harmony' (feat. Liquid) which only got to #64, also a disappointing flop.

Although to be honest I was pretty shocked IB even managed to go top 40.

Linkin Park's singles have flopped BADLY, "Waiting For The End" is still climbing in the US and is now in the top 50, although I've seen snails move faster. They've also gone for the dull as ditchwater "Burning In The Skies" as the third single when "Wretches and Kings" was dying for a release :(

'Waiting for the End' is moving up based on airplay so you can't expect it climbing faster. But it's doing better than The Catalyst in radio and actually is a decent hit.

Agree with VV Brown she should have been HUGE. :(

Avril Lavigne - Nobody's Home/Hot.

How those are her lowest charting singles I will never know. NH especially. -_-

Sonnie J/ Can't Stop Movin' only made to No40, that was a good summer song. I suppose back in 2008.

Shark In The Water that deserved at least at Top20 postion. 4Music kept playing that in 2009. But a rubbish charts positon. very harsh.

Also Kasabian/ Underdog only made No32 after having a Top3 Hit with 'Fire'. That was a good song 'Underdog'. back in 2009. and 'Where Did All The Love Go?' only making No30.

Cascada's 'Dangerous' didn't make the Top40 after beating the late Michael Jackson to No1 back in July 2009.

Mariah Carey's 'Obsessed', 'Bye Bye', 'I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time'. Obsessed and I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time failing to make the Top40. 'Obsessed' only getting to No52 but on downloads alone though.

But 'I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time ft T.I which got to the Radio 1 B-Playlist failing to get to the Top75 only at No84. 'Bye Bye' only getting to No30 after Top5 Hit 'Touch My Body' back in 2008.

For Mariah I actually don't mind obsessed.

Shake It Off should have been MAMMOTH. It was amazing.

'Obsessed' didn't actually get any airplay or release or anything, over here did it? So it was never going to do well otherwise. The "fake" version got top 15 on iTunes though and had the record company released the single to iTunes instead of getting the "fake" one removed and not capitalising on it, was pathetic, on their behalf. It had potential to be absolutely HUGE.

And in regards to the 'Shake It Off' comment... I have 3 words... Get, Your and Number. That was amazing and better than 'Shake It Off', imo.

VV Brown and Gabriella both have a common element in their flops.

Crown.

The evil scum sacks that 'manage' the Sugababes and in the process destroyed the group also killed Mutya Buena's career [Though the A&R guy for Island gave a hand there] and they are the 'management' for VV and GabC.

Both didn't deserve to flop, especially Cilmi as Ten really was a sublime album but their management are useless, the Sugababes sell on brand name alone [except when Island/Crown send the full album promo out 2months before the albums release date - Not forgetting that the album itself was $h!t] and they don't bother with their other acts. Gabriella got very very very lucky with Lesson's To Be Learned thanks to that advert.

Siobhán Donaghy - Don't Give It Up

Probably way ahead of its time. #45 didn't do it justice. I believe if it was released nowadays, along with the Florence + The Machine fever, it would do much better than it did. Same for the (absolutely incredible) album.

THIS.

Don't Give It Up, So You Say and Ghosts are all absolutely brilliant tracks

On the subject of Former Sugababes, Mutya didn't deserve to flop as badly as she did, nor be dropped seeing as Real Girl out sold $h!t 7 by about 10x.

If her album had been A&R'd properly it would have been huge [some of the best solo work she has done is contained within the demo's from Real Girl] Not to mention how badly handled Song 4 Mutya was. That should have been #1.

RACHEL STEVENS - I SAID NEVER AGAIN (BUT HERE WE ARE)

RACHEL STEVENS - SO GOOD

SPICE GIRLS - HEADLINES (FRIENDSHIP NEVER ENDS)

GIRLS ALOUD v SUGABABES - WALK THIS WAY (Grated it got to #1 but sales are like Oh Maaa. God.)

SUGABABES - TOO MANY TO LIST

BLUE - GET DOWN ON IT

KINGS OF LEON - NOTION

CHERYL COLE - THE FLOOD

NADINE - INSAITSABLE

THE SATURDAYS - WORK

RACHEL STEVENS - I SAID NEVER AGAIN (BUT HERE WE ARE)

RACHEL STEVENS - SO GOOD

Forgot about these two! :(

The biggest and most undeserving flop for the Sugas though is easily 'Easy'! (No pun intended!) Seriously it's orgasmic :(

Easy is one of the sexiest song of all time!

And don't get me started on the crime that was the Come and Get It album!

I agree on Easy, but the Sugababes had some deserved flops. Follow Me Home for one.

Most of the songs that flopped shouldn't have been released in the first place and the Sweet 7 era should have been aborted.

Oh I also have another criminally underrated pop song, that flopped on it's ass after the singer had an inferior number 1 debut single!

Sandi Thom's 'What If I'm Right'! Such a brilliant and feel good pop song!

Also Paris Hilton's 'Nothing In This World'! Criminally underrated/under performed!

RACHEL STEVENS - SO GOOD

EXCELLENT pop record.

If Kylie or whoever had that, it would have been huge at the time!

I'm gonna agree with Jonjo on NITW, but go a step further and say Paris Hilton's entire pop career :o  Also, Hilary Duff's Coming Clean  I'm also certain that Same Difference ft. Alcazar - Karma Karma will follow plenty of pop amazingness down the flop route :(
a lot of the rock hits from last year underperformed, Maroon 5, Manic Street Preachers, Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance to name a few- and I'm pretty sure there was more, why? well, rock is severely declining in the market, so that didn't help them, also they were pretty weak songs by their standards (which is huge as I actually still liked them all  )

Edited by chart wizard

I actually have the Maroon 5 and Manic Street Preachers songs on my mp3 player, and I don't even like rock music! :o
