A very bad idea bringing the release date forward and not bringing the promotion forward as well.

Very silly! A bit like a mechanic saying "You can pick your car up on Wednesday, but you'll have to come back Friday for the tyres".

I am shocked The Flood's only sold 34K first two days :o Yes I know there has been no promo yet but really - on the back of it's huge airplay and general OTT media hype I assumed it would sail to #1. I mean it's only sld 7,000 more than Shame  It's a million times superior so it is very odd. A very bad idea bringing the release date forward and not bringing the promotion forward as well.

Shocked how low SuBo's sales are :o Her debut sold 130,000 copies first day so this is disappointing to say the least.

Its actually a typical drop-off for a reality act.

That's why even given Leona's sales drop off from Spirit->Echo last year, it wasn't as high as the majority of sales drop-offs for reality acts, of which SuBo is most definitely following the natural trend.

I just think with the album only a week later, most people are going to wait for that. (Take That) I know I am. So not too surprised to see it only just at number 1 today and likely to be overtaken by Rihanna tomorrow.

Shayne is doing better than many expected but I'm most surprised at Mcfly. It's doing better than their lead single. I know their sales are always front loaded and extremely likely to fall but even its performance on Itunes has surprised me, they haven't done massive amounts of promotion just Paul O Grady, and I haven't seen it frequently on the music channels. Is its success down to Taio Cruz?

Mcfly likely to drop as the week moves on, not sure if Shayne will drop off too or maybe overtake them, given he is ahead on Itunes. Mcfly's physicals are always good and they have two CD's priced at £1.99 and £2.99. Shayne has one at £2.99 - 2 track and includes a poster.

Adele could climb higher than them all, by the end of the week, I've noticed there are two weddings scheduled on Eastenders this week - could be prime for more Make You Feel My Love

Nadine says she hadn't a hope of beating Cheryl because of her X Factor connections.

Well, the Benedictine Nuns of Notre Dame are also beating Nadine Coyle. Were they on X Factor as well?

Get a grip. Obviously she will be compared to Tweedy as they both come from the same reality show.

I'd love to know the sales difference between #3-#8 as I bet it is really, really, tight.

Jesus christ Nadine.

Single out of top 40 after 1 week.

Album might not even stay top 40.

Dire. I'm so annoyed.

On the bright side, I'm glad Pink is missing top 10 with that lazy effort.

And happy for Shayne Ward. I'm glad Subo has lost her touch. Releasing an album full of covers with no live performances to advertise it.

2?! Jack and Ronnie, obviously. Who else?! :o

No It's not! Mcfly's lead single (Party Girl) was at #3 on the Tuesday midweeks and was about the same on on I tunes.

I didn't expect top 3 anyway and was going for number 7 but fully expect it to fall come sunday.

I don't think Taio Cruz makes much differance as it's only Mcfly that plays on TV and sometimes the 'Mcfly Only Version' gets played on radio with no mention of Taio

JUst Paul O grady so far but has Daybreak tommorow(Not that it will help) but CIN next week could ensure they don't fall too far but the Album is out next week(and was given away free)

Kat and Alfie are renewing their vows I think?

Yes but i think they have a big bash so it's like a proper wedding

Ah my mistake, I was thinking of Party Girl's final position.

Yeh that's a good point, you would only realise Taio Cruz was on it from the video really. I wasn't keen on Shine A Light at first but I really like it now, the performance on Paul O grady was really good. :)

Yeh it's supposed to be a double wedding - Ronnie/Jack and Kat/Alfie renewing their vows but I don't know if both actually happen or not, just saw it on my tv guide :)

I didn't expect Rihanna would sell that much on her third week! TT could do 87K and Rihanna 100K... but I wouldn't write TT off yet. TT singles and Rob's singles never did more than 100K in a week anyway if I remember well... but there is always XF next week. (if they don't get it this week)

LOL at people suggesting the song is not popular because of Rob. With most of the album built on Robbie this would mean the album will ''underperform'' as well. THIS is the critical question: did TT fans bother buying the single when the album is out next week? wouldn't it be a waste of money anyway? Same thing could happen next week: People could buy the already available album instead. Promo is stupid imo...(or they just care about the album)

I am actually shocked at how well Rihanna's song is doing.

Album sales must have picked up... I see a lot of new entries. (KOL falling pretty fast though)

I take it The Saturdays are not back in the Top 40 with their re-issue of Headlines are they?

The whole "TT fans are waiting for the albums release" is a bit of a blank excuse though ...

Usually, when artists have albums out people say "the single is underperforming because people already have it on the album blah blah blah", and now some people have the opposite reasoning "the single is underperforming because the album isn't released yet and people are waiting for it".

Oh and btw Rihanna's album is still to be released too.

LOL at people saying how low is Cheryl... are you for real? PT is not Only Girl or FFTL but it's doing really well.

True, it's not a very good excuse but I do wonder if TT are getting to the age where their primary fanbase is more likely to buy albums and concert tickets than downloads. Just look at Up All Night and Said It All - not exactly huge hits. Of their other huge singles since their comeback, Patience was always going to go to #1 as it was great and also their first single in 10 years, Shine, if I remember rightly, only got to #1 by a small margin, and I don't think it ever sold more than 50k in a week, it just sold consistently over time. Rule The World was a standalone single (and amazing) - yes it was on the deluxe edition but I doubt many of their fans wanted to buy that seeing as it just added that song and a couple of b-sides, and then Greatest Day again sold 70k or something, so respectable but not 'huge', but then the album went and sold 400,000 odd or whatever it was the following week.

Either way, no matter how great Progress is, I don't see them getting another top 5 hit out of it - they're more of an albums act/live act now than a singles act, despite the fact that they do tend to have these blockbuster hit singles every now and then. I'd Wait For Life and Up All Night failed to go top ten and the other two promotional singles The Garden and Hold Up A Light got decent video airplay and play from other sources but neither made the top 75 because there were no physicals to support them. They'll only ever have bonafide hit singles from now on with either lead singles or anomalies like Rule The World (film soundtracks/standalone singles) imo. Otherwise they'll be down to 'one hit per album' like Kylie, Madonna and the rest of them...

It is a different occasion with TT&Rob. Both hugely album artists, all the hype, all promo at the week when the album is out, big preorders...

I expected the flood would be no1 but TT singles don't sell 100K+ . Remember the Garden or Rule the world... (even bodies and shame)

Rihanna's album is the ordinary album of a big WW superstar. It could sell better or worse regarding to quality + consistently but don't expect mavrelous weeks.

Speaking for myself for example: I like Robbie but didn't buy Shame not only because it was kind of poor. The main reason was the album was out next week so I wouldn't even consider buying it regaredless the quality.

Having said that, I do not believe a big portion of the TT fanbase (which is not eenage anymore) cares about chart battles enough to buy what they don't need.

Pleased that Shayne is no 4 and hope he can hold out until sunday. Considering all things...no airplay etc and the might of the acts above him ,he has done well! :)

Indeed. Rihanna's more of a singles act and Take That are more of an albums act. They both occasionally get huge hits in the market they don't usually do so well in but Rihanna needs a string of hit singles to consistently sell an album (and didn't she milk Good Girl Gone Bad for singles ) but Take That could release a new album even without a lead single or any word of mouth preceding it and it would fly straight in at #1.

I absolutely adore both acts though, and shall be buying both albums next week (indeed, they're two of my most anticipated releases of 2010) :D
