It was promoted as a single!

If people ignored it then, I don't see why they love it now to be honest. I charted it back in 2008 and not highly either, don't rate it all that much.

Let's not be silly.

I'm sure I could list dozens of tracks from this year alone which were "promoted as a single" that you won't've heard before, and you know it. I doubt most of the general public are aware of the existence of recent singles such as Deja Vu by Inna, or No Love by Eminem. They've been "promoted as singles", but nobody else in my family knows about those songs. Many of my friends haven't heard of Deja Vu. However, if those songs were played on X Factor in 2 years time, they'll get heard by a quarter of the country's population, which is more than what've heard the songs now.

I didn't hear Adele's version of Make You Feel My Love until 2010. I didn't hear it in 2008, but chose to "ignore it". The song might not have existed for all I knew. How was I meant to buy it in 2008?

no. they are number one in the physicals. . .

Number 3. Behind JLS & Take That.

And I was in the same situation as Eric Blob :)

Duffy's "Well Well Well" has even less exposure than Dido's flop single "Don't Believe In Love" last year. She'll be lucky to get a top 30 SMASH a la Bextor.
I cant decide if I like Duffy's new track or hate it. I dont think it will do well either way, im guessing top 20 at best. She should have waited until January as this will slip under the radar.
^^ Jessie J - Do It Like A Dude has been released too. FAR too early if you ask me... :(

I think labels are realising that they have to release a track early sometimes in order to prevent fake versions from charting. (Although that still hasn't applied to many major acts yet)

As mentioned before, if Duffy released "Endlessly", it would have gotten nice radio support and would have had a shot of hitting the top 10... but alas, I fear a "Safe Trip Home" sort of era for her...

I think the XF charity single won't be released until after their performance, to ensure nobody puts it on Youtube beforehand
You're probably right, plus they'll be miming it, and maybe they don't want people to know that  But with an extra day's sales, could Ellie or Olly get a shock #1?

Not at all, XFF also have the physical single which is always a big seller.

It's a new release. I've been waiting weeks to get my (metaphorical) hands on it.

Clearly you weren't the only one

Hopefully the Gorillaz aren't too front-loaded. No idea where The Midnight Beast came from - perhaps an outside contender for top 40?

I really hope jessie can go top 20, even if the song hasn't been around for that long.
