Adele continues to rule

Adele is expected to retain command of both the UK’s singles and artist albums charts for another week after securing early strong leads in both markets, according to OCC data.

Her second XL album 21 has, at this point in the week, sold more copies than its three closest challengers combined: Epic’s newly-issued Glee The Music – Vol 4 album, Def Jam/Mercury act Rihanna’s Loud and Adele’s own first album 19.

Singles

Meanwhile, her single Someone Like You, which claimed the second biggest move to number one in chart history last Sunday after moving 47-1, is outselling the combined early-week sales of Island/Lava act Jessie J’s Price Tag and Rihanna with S&M. These are currently the second and third biggest singles of the week.

Adele’s previous single Rolling In The Deep is also marginally ahead in fourth place of Interscope/Polydor act Lady GaGa’s Born This Way, which had appeared to be on course last week to climb to number one after taking an early lead in midweek sales but then slipped to third place in the final chart last Sunday. It is now the fifth top singles seller at this stage of the week.

Good Girl, the follow-up to Columbia/StarRoc/RocNation act Alexis Jordan’s introductory hit Happiness, is showing up as the week’s biggest new single after appearing in sixth place on midweek sales.

Several songs performed at last week’s Brits are still experiencing sales lifts as a result of the extra exposure, including Rihanna’s S&M, whose sales are up 33.9% on the week so far, Warner Bros act Cee Lo Green’s Forget You, whose sales are almost double what it managed at this point last week to lift it 19-12 on the midweeks, and Polydor act Take That’s Kidz, which was 31st on last Sunday’s chart but is now in 17th place in the week so far.

Another of the BBC Sound Off… intake for this year, Polydor’s Clare Maguire, is on course to make her Top 40 debut this Sunday with The Last Dance presently in 22nd position.

Albums

Back on the artist albums chart and the Brits effect continues to be felt with sales of albums by show winners and performers including Gentlemen Of The Road/Island’s Mumford & Sons, Parlophone’s Tinie Tempah, 679/Atlantic’s Plan B and Warner Bros’s Cee Lo Green significantly higher than where there were at the same point last week.

Apart from the Glee album, there are no new releases appearing within the Top 20 positions, but a clutch outside, including new sets from Pop Sex/Wichita’s Frankie & The Heartstrings, XL’s Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie XX, Roadrunner’s Devil Driver, Decca’s Secret Sisters and Bella Union’s Low Anthem.

PLEASE READ THESE RULES BEFORE POSTING

[01] Any member that is caught spamming, or trying to cause an argument to get a reaction will be severely warned with a ban for 7 days from posting on the forum.

[02] This is a mid thread for every artist do not go on and on and on about a certain artist to bring the board into disrepute.

[03] Please be patient when you are asking for a request, as you might not get an answer straight away.

[04] Any member asking for information that isn't in the updates we don't have, always read the topic before you post, I do not want to see questions like Where is Britney? repeated several times on every page of the thread, once is enough, bookmark the page if you don't have time to read all of the topic. Its not that hard.

[05] Do not use BLOCK CAPITALS when posting a sentence its considered as shouting and rude.

[06] Do not use Text Talk.

[07] Do not use a light colour font when posting please its hard to read the topic, not everyone has 100% vision.

[08] Please give a mention to who posted the chart info or the site name where you seen the mid info if you are copying and posting the chart info elsewhere, it takes forever trying to re-edit all the information up for you to see.

[09] Please do not post lists, or sales info unless you are told to by myself or a chart mod, if you do have sales info that you wish to share round them off to the nearest thousand and name your source, do not post precise sales figures.

[10] Regarding chart postions when posted when you see a sum/substraction for example 22+4, 40-7, if you add/subtract both figures together it gives you the actual position for the track. Its just simple addition or substraction. Go Figure.

Another competitive chart this week, expect Adele to keep the top spot for a second week, Lady Gaga's video should surface Thursday, but I feel she has left it too late to do any impact to the top missing the boat for the third time.

first comment woo!

Adele for number one this week - Lady GaGa hasn't a chance and Jessie J has had her time. Rihanna should finally go top 5 this week too :D

While we're waiting for the first mids to come in, it's time for a quick reminder of the Year To Date Predictions competition.

There's real money at stake with a £50 iTunes voucher :o for the winner.

There's a link to the details in my signature - and some other Admin sigs as well :D :cheer:

So the 13th March YTDs will include the next 3 charts (W/E 5 Mar, 12 Mar and 19 Mar) as well as the charts already included, right?

I think I'll wait until Thursday when the YTD T40s are announced before I even attempt that prediction game :P

That's correct.

Its in my siggie as well :P

Adele will be #1 in the albums chart. Something tells me Sara Bareilles will be highest new entry in the albums... King Of Anything has Radio 2 support i think? I just can't see Far East Movement, Jay Sean et al getting up to much in the albums.

Battle between Adele and Jessie J in the singles, i think it'll be Adele quite easily who comes up top because she's not really budging from that top spot on iTunes is she? And Jessie J isn't eating into her lead quickly enough! :P

Rihanna top 3! Hope she stays there until Sunday. If GaGa's video is released this week as has been reported, it may drop to #4 but hopefully not.
I think Glee has affected Cee Lo's sales as well as the Brits judging by the big jump.
