Longest time for a song to reach number one (including the first week at number one)

They all have to be in the same chart run (e.g. Rage Against the Machine – Killing in the Name does not count, as it reached number one in a different chart run)

Please try to post how many weeks it took to reach number one in the top 100 and top 75, or just post the top 100 chart run (unless chartstats or where ever you get the info from doesn't show the top 100). It just makes it easier for me to post it without checking chartstats. Thank you :)

Can you think of any more?

"Telephone" was not in 1 continuous run...

Also taking ages to climb that you've not mentioned:

Dead Or Alive "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" took 15 weeks in 1984/85-

55-49-51-58-65-55-48-45-41-42-40-19-5-2-{1}-1-6-12-20-30-36-49-64

Also in 1985 Jennifer Rush "The Power Of Love" took 16 weeks-

65-49-51-45-44-47-46-44-43-47-49-42-36-15-2-{1}-1-1-1-1-2-4-5-10-27-21-22-35-33-35-48-62

Didn't Steps take about 8 or 9 weeks to get to #1 with Heartbeat/Tragedy?

Telephone is the longest I can think of.

Although if S&M gets to #1, that would be a massive run too! :o

Are you looking for all songs that take more than 5 weeks (because I can think of a few more), or just the longest we can think of?

I'm pretty sure it was. You might be only counting top 75 runs?

James Blunt - You're Beautiful, I don't have the chart run at hand though,

The Bangles - Eternal Flame took 11 weeks

I think it was 12-6-2-3-3-3-1.

All Saints took 9 weeks with Never Ever.

I'm pretty sure Think twice by Celine Dion took almost 6 months before getting to #1. No idea what the chart run was though

it was 4

songs nowadays that are available digitally from the minute the album is released such as Telephone are nowhere near as impressive as songs released only physically such as Eternal Flame or Think Twice in my opinion x

Another slow climber from 92:

9 weeks to reach #1.

Boyz II Men "End Of The Road"

36-31-22-14-6-4-2-2-{1}-1-1-2-3-6-18-23-27-25-23-52-71
