March 6, 201115 yr I guess because they're not really any different to other cover versions (apart from the fact that the "fake" versions tend to be released before the original, and tend to not be very good and professional). Was it same situation with Cha Cha Slide in 2004?
March 6, 201115 yr Why did the OCC revert the rules on fake versions of songs being eligible for the chart? Where there ever actually any rules against it? I think the difference is that it's only now that the record companies are registering the fake songs.
March 6, 201115 yr But can you not hear how extremely strained her voice is in the chorus or are you just going to ignore that completely? I don't think her voice sounds strained, at all.
March 6, 201115 yr I wonder if that's the first family then. I can't think of anyone else. I just read "1000 Kisses" didn't chart/wasn't released after all. Shame, it's a nice tune... Humm, I can only come up with The Jacksons (no singing parents), The Osbournes (father-daughter only) and The Presleys (father-daughter)... Can't remember any to the charting extent of The Smiths :o
March 6, 201115 yr Anyone who says Jessie can't sing need their ear tested, seriously. She has possibly the best voice out there at the moment. Just listen to the note around 3:10: iiwZSI8kaAg Also, her live lounge was outstanding. Just listened to it instead of that crappy "Celebrity Chart Numbers" thing  Although she's slightly better than I thought, it still seems she can't come close to a high note without going all screechy Katy Perry-style.
March 6, 201115 yr Quite a haunting song :o really like it! :D Edited March 6, 201115 yr by chart wizard

March 6, 201115 yr Just listened to it instead of that crappy "Celebrity Chart Numbers" thing  Although she's slightly better than I thought, it still seems she can't come close to a high note without going all screechy Katy Perry-style. Personally I disagree but its just your opinion and your entitled to it. Thanks for at least watching it and seeing she is at least better than you thought

Powered by a Soft Cell sample, her infectious dancehall/Caribbean single "Pon de Replay," from her album the MUSIC OF THE SUN, became the summer jam of 2005, peaking at number two on the charts. By 2006 she had become a worldwide sensation, and her second album, A GIRL LIKE ME, went platinum, boosted by a Nike ad song, guest appearances on ALL MY CHILDREN, and a film part in BRING IT ON: ALL OR NOTHING. Further success followed with 2007's double platinum GOOD GIRL GONE BAD, which spawned the all conquering "Umbrella" - topping the UK singles chart for ten weeks in the summer of that year. - HMV Video here: pa14VNsdSYM Chart history (Year peak title): 2005 02 Pon De Replay 2005 11 If It's Lovin' That You Want 2006 02 S.O.S. 2006 02 Unfaithful 2006 17 We Ride 2007 01 Umbrella (Rihanna Feat. March 6, 201115 yr Where there ever actually any rules against it? I think the difference is that it's only now that the record companies are registering the fake songs. I think the rules have been relaxed because artists like '#1 [artist] Tribute Band' and generic acts like 'Cover Guru' never used to chart, only 'genuine' artists, but there have been a few of those charting this year.
March 6, 201115 yr Author Can we just take everything that's said here as an opinion without the need for IMO after every phrase? Many arguments would be avoided I do agree, but alot of posters think their opinion IS fact

March 6, 201115 yr In my opinion, the edits Radio 1 took to Life Goes On are much more ridiculous than the ones taken to S&M. This is a fantastic song. Can't believe that it hasn't gone top 30 in its chart run.
