March 18, 201114 yr I voted 11 weeks, although I do think that the Strokes may be ahead (temporarily) on Tuesday's midweeks next week.
March 19, 201114 yr What, you don't think the new album by Colbie Caillat  will finally depose her? :P Oh, I totally forgot about Colbie Caillat. She might even go on to break Adele's record and spend 13 weeks at #1 :P
March 19, 201114 yr Oh, I totally forgot about Colbie Caillat. She might even go on to break Adele's record and spend 13 weeks at #1 :P Don't joke about such things :snif: Colbie deserves SO much more in the UK...ridiculously underrated/snubbed at every opportunity :drama:
March 19, 201114 yr Don't joke about such things :snif: Colbie deserves SO much more in the UK...ridiculously underrated/snubbed at every opportunity :drama: Yet Colbie is quite popular in Europe. At least 'Bubbly' became a big hit in a few countries. Whether Colbie scores another hit in Europe is left to be seen. Don't know why the UK snub her - if radio stations like Radio 1 regard her as MoR (or "boring" as I'm sure someone like Reggie Yates would be thinking) therefore not worthy of being playlisted, why playlist Adele whose album could also be classed as "MoR" when it's actually excellent? I guess Radio 1 are more biased towards British acts. It's hard to understand why Colbie isn't popular here - but that can apply to many artists who are successful elsewhere, just not here (like Hurts, even though they are British).

Hurts are doing OK in the albums chart although not as well as I would like. But somehow the singles haven't performed very well and I can't really understand why :(
March 19, 201114 yr They don't seem to mind American acts... as long as they aren't white... Don't be stupid - there's many white American acts on Radio 1's playlist right now. It's nothing to do with race, and everything to do with genre. Yet Colbie is quite popular in Europe. At least 'Bubbly' became a big hit in a few countries. Because Colbie's music type is a total niché in the UK (at least in the past decade or more), and we already have our own acts to fill that little 'gap in the market' anyway. So essentially, we have utterly no need for Colbie Caillat. Even if she did have a hit here, she'd just be a one-hit wonder like Joan Osborne, Vanessa Carlton, Sara Bareilles, Jason Mraz. Only the ones that have something a bit different to them like Alanis Morissette can carve out a decent UK career. I don't really know why Hurts didn't do well though - that is indeed more of a mystery. Their songs really sound like perfect radio hits to me. But I guess commercial radio was too busy playing Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, JLS, etc. to death last year to even notice them.

March 20, 201114 yr I said more than 11, it will obviously happen as not much is out in coming weeks tbh. Totally agree about Colbie Caillat :( Her album Coco got to 44 off the back of Bubbly charting at 58... I remember hearing quite a bit on a few radio stations at the time, was surprised it wasn't a top 40 hit. Also, her 2nd album Breakthrough only got to 109 :( Plus, I don't remember this happening but Wiki says Fallin' For You got to no. 76 :o But still, for how great her two albums are, she is criminally underrated... :(

Duran Duran - All You Need Is Now Robbie Williams - Special Editions Rod Stewart - The Best Of The Great American Songbook Ronan Keating - When Ronan Met Burt The Strokes - Angles I put 10 weeks, but looking at that list I see a few potential ones. Never underestimate the effect of Mother's Day which isn't that far away now. The Strokes do have a huge fanbase as well. I am pretty sure Adele's Comic Relief performance and huge airplay will keep her at the top still.
March 21, 201114 yr Author 8 weeks confirmed today, going for the 9th week! Thanks GTH, will be interesting to see midweeks on tuesday, and hopefully sales too. Edited March 21, 201114 yr by Karma

March 24, 201114 yr 9 weeks that's brillant. She has preformed better in the singles charts with her second album than she did on the first album.
March 24, 201114 yr Author 9 weeks that's brillant. She has preformed better in the singles charts with her second album than she did on the first album. She's done everything better this time round, it really is overwhelming success, she must be just on cloud 9! Hopoe she's fliming a video now for the epic, SET FIRE TO THE RAIN.

Could Adele not only release the album of the year - but also the singles of the year, too? With Rolling In The Deep, Someone Like You and now Set Fire To The Rain - I reckon she just might.
March 25, 201114 yr I really wish she'd f**k off and give others a chance. adele this, adele that, I don't care anymore. well, tbf, I never really cared to start with.

We can expect her to go "Oh, I'm really popular at the moment, I'm going to stop promoting my songs and let someone else have a chance". That's just ridiculous. When other artists have dominated in a similar way in the past (e.g. the BEPs, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Eminem, etc.), we don't expect them to do that. Although, yeah, Someone Like You needs to get away from #1 now (well, it can have this week, but after that, no thanks!). Don't care what she does in the album chart tbh. If anything, I wouldn't mind her staying for longer, just because it's amazing to see. Edited March 25, 201114 yr by Eric_Blob
