Oh, there was me thinking 'California Gurls' was released just after her cameo appearance on The X Factor. Flop memory!!! :drama:

No, that was Teenage Dream (and both the single version and the album version went top 10 on iTunes! :o).

Teenage Dream got beaten to #1 by an X Factor artist I think (was it Olly Murs, or Alexandra Burke?), and I remember people whining about Katy Perry not getting #1 because of the X Factor, and I kept pointing out that maybe Katy Perry herself wouldn't be top 2 without the X Factor, but that didn't go down very well!

California Gurls probably climbed the charts a lot that week, I'd suspect.

It makes me laugh that whenever Elbow do promotion it has just as much of an effect on 'One Day Like This'.

Fully deserved though, my favourite song of the noughties and so glad it's become a mainstay in the iTunes chart!

What do you think the Top3 will be between Adele, Nicole and The WANTED?

Has Geraldine and Susan Boyle's song being released on iTunes?

Yeah. It makes sense though. It's their signiture song, and I think it's one of those songs that lots of people love, but they don't know what it is, if that makes sense. Or I don't know.

I heard it for the first time when they played it on an episode of Big Brother, and I loved it!! Although I do much prefer the second half of the song to the first half (it's like the opposite of Imma Be by the Black Eyed Peas ).

And it was in the Children in Need medley too, which got to #1. :D

Can't believe that GM song is top 20 - he basically turned a classic into a whole heap of crap... even if it is for charity; can't people just donate without buying the trype

Sweat down to #7 and I Need a Doctor down to #10!!!! :( AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I hope Adele doesn't go top 10 now.

Till the World Ends out of the top 100!!! It deserves so much better. Hopefully it'll climb in the future. :(

An example of why not to release a song with no airplay and TV play.. Thats not good at all.

Its radio airplay is increasing (though it's still small).

Yeah. :( Although when album tracks first get put on iTunes, they usually have no airplay, but when they do, they climb and do really well. Just Can't Get Enough, for example. It was put on iTunes months ago, and now it's doing really well. So hopefully when Britney's song starts getting promoted more through radio it can do better.

Owch, Britney.

That's dire...

Yes. :( But to be fair, look at Telephone. Charts at #30, fall outs of the top 40 the week after, then 4 months later it's #1!! :D

I'm sure it can climb back into the top 40 if it is promoted well (i.e. more people play it on the radio).

It's already had it's single release, unlike Just Can Get Enough and Telephone had at their relative times. The hype has already built up and gone for TTWE. If the video is something amazing it could go back into the top 40. But if the video is average/below-par then it definitely won't go shoot back up.
I don't think there was ever any hype at all for TTWE. It did extremely well to get to #21. It'll climb back up.

it seems you can only buy the music video of I Know Him So Well on itunes atm - I guess that means it won't enter the top 40 this week, as I don't think video sales count

unsurprisingly, its currently number 1 on the Itunes video chart with True Faith right behind it

We can't really say the hype is built up and gone for the song when the vast majority of the music-buying population aren't aware of the existance of the song.

E.T. by Katy Perry has also had it's single release in the UK (which is the Kanye West version). It's not doing very well at the moment, but I'm sure the song will sell more as it gradually gets played more and more on the radio, and gets a music video. It's a very similar principle with Britney's song.

I'm not saying Britney will go to #1 if it gets more radio airplay. I'm saying it might climb up the charts to some extent.

96 Ke$ha - Blow

Not sure if this is a new peak or not, if so, nice to see it climbing! ^_^
