looks like we may finally have a singles clearout this week

Not really, there's 2 new entries (one of which is a climber anyway), one re-entry and quite a few old-ish songs re-climbing (RITD, Grenade, Good Girl, Skinny Love, WTC?). There's only one song entering the top 10 compared to 3 last week. LMFAO, Katy, Snoop, Chris, Cee Lo, Nicki, Britney, Jodie, Ke$ha and T-Pain are all just continuing to climb (well, starting in T-Pain's case) as they have been the last few weeks already. While that's a pretty good amount I wouldn't call that a 'clear-out' at all.

I think (and hope) that Adele will overtake by the end of the week.

23k lead is a huge gap, she'll need a serious boost

has any album ever started out so far ahead and then fell by Sunday?

but Only Girl, Firework and MYFML I presume have all dropped out of the top 40, so thats good as the charts were looking quite stale with 2010 songs still there - and I think Jessie J and Guetta and Rihanna (Now effect) are the only two 2010 songs left, so hopefully they can leave soon :D

edit: Firework *will* drop out by the end of the week

What the f***

Who are the Foo Fighters?

Foo Fighters have a big lead and it isn't as frontloaded as some people are suggesting, Foo's have a massive UK fanbase, they sold over 100,000 tickets for the Milton Keynes bowl in a matter of minutes. Plus, the album has been getting rave reviews and the Amazon MP3 discount is definitely going to help.

GO FOOS!

Exactly!

The album has been getting great reviews and will continue to sell strong throughout the week. Easily 150k this week, its about time Adele was knocked off.

But it *is* frontloaded because all new releases are always frontloaded and the effect is more pronounced with rock groups and even more pronounced with rock groups with massive fanbases.

I suppose so, but it's still quite a stale and slow moving chart at the moment. I wouldn't call three top 40 entries a 'good clear-out' regardless of what they're knocking out. Although that number should increase to at least four by the end of the week with Arctics entering.

Price Tag out of the top 10 so far, the first ever all download official top 10 is on.

I didn't say it wasn't frontloaded, just that it isn't as frontloaded as people are suggesting. Foo's last album sold over 130k, and while it had arguably a stronger lead single, it didn't excite fans like this one. I wouldn't be surprised to see this sell more than Echoes did in week 1, even without singles chart success.

Don't quite get the logic about bands with massive fanbases being more frontloaded than those without either. All the biggest rock band releases over the past number of years (namely Metallica, Muse and AC/DC) have sold consistently through the week, while in contrast those rock bands with smaller fanbases (like Within Temptation etc.) have broken the Top 10 on day one and fallen steadily throughout the week.

That's because when you're lower down the chart the sales are much closer so it looks like they're falling faster. Those massive rock bands sell the vast majority of their first week sales on the first day because almost all of their huge fanbase either buy it the day it comes out or pre-order it which adds to the first day sales. With some the sales do stay fairly high through the week and they don't plummet afterwards (e.g. Muse) but with others they don't and do (e.g. Iron Maiden).

What? Are you serious :arrr: ;) How do you not know who they are? They are one of the biggest bands around!!

Plus, I am so glad the Foos have a massive lead! I love Adele but I think it's time someone else has the top spot! I mean Adele has nearly sold 2million so it will definately still be big! Whether or not it reaches No.1 this week!

If the Foos have got a lead of 23k ahead of Adele, Glee album a further 19,000 sales behind in third place, that would make the open sales for the Foos around 50kplus, which means Adele could be around 30k.

3 Glee 11k

2 Adele 30k

1 Foos 53k

I think its still too close to call

Are you joking?! :o

I don't even like rock music (for the most part), and I know who they are (it's kind of hard not to tbh)!

Anyway, good to see LMFAO #1!! They should be safe for this week. And I'd like to see Katy Perry get it next week.

Well does anyone have the first day and first week sales of F Fighters last few albums then we might have a better idea of how much they might sell this week and then it might be easier to compare with Adele's.
at least there will be a different no1 in the album chart. shame that all chart runs at No1 come to a end.

It is too close at both singles and albums... :cheer:

Foo fighters will slow down critically no doubt. It just feels like Adelle is eventually slowing down as well.

120k for Foo and 100k for Adelle perhaps?

I was sick of SLY holding that no1 for so many weeks, but I think I prefer this to the  Jlo and the :puke2: LMFAO...

Rolling in the Deep for a shock no1 then! It is such a same her best single yet didn't get to no1 while she has an album about to sell 2mil +....

^ Yeah, I agree Rolling in the Deep is better than Someone Like You, and would've been a great #1.

I think who'll be #1 in the singles chart this week is already quite obvious, unless there's some drastic changes in selling patterns in the next few days.

Not so sure about the albums though.

The first week sales for Grace... was 135k plus, for the first day I can't remember.
