Amelia was BRILLIANT, she reminds me of Alison Iraheta from American Idol

From successful auditions:

Full audition, sobstory, all in one part of the show = place in finals

Short audition = judges houses or sacrificial lamb at bootcamp. This one is nice, because it's fair and is the most unpredictable of the 3 audition lengths, but the people here are never going to be frontrunners.

Barely shown = Bootcamp cannon fodder.

They're so bloody obvious with the auditions, it's painful for the whole selection process. They do occasional subversions, but really, not enough. For a start, they can stop showing people's homes from the first audition, and give a full audition to everyone getting to houses, to at least make it somehow unpredictable.

Ranting, but I don't like the show being predictable. It's too easy to make fun of.

Tonight isn't as great as last night so far. The last guy was ok, but nothing special.

This totally. I mean if they waste the whole 10 minutes on one person moaning about how they've moved five times and the stress killed their mum, they're not letting them go at bootcamp. Similarly with someone who gets a quick 10 second clip, they might be early weeks of the live shows victims or judge's houses but they'll never have a chance. The producers have their favourites and that's it. Saying that, I can't help but love it :drama:

I can't help but think that it was better in Pop Idol where the public got to cut the last 50 down to the last 10.

Another double episodes next weekend, they are getting thru the auditions like hot cakes this year. I know the final is a week early this year.
I can't get over how GOOD Amelia is! Not only does she LOOK similar to Christina Aguilera but she has a voice that has the potential to match her, vocally! Hope she does well.

Indeed, it's just the same old formula played over and over again, and it's very clear who is favoured more - I could just tell that that sequence leading up Jonjo with all the nervous contestants was building up to a 'oh you're lacking confidence but we believe in you' audition -_- he wasn't even that good either, decent at best

Amelia was very good though, great voice for a 16 year old, wasn't much of a sob story though - she has a dad, big deal!

I refuse to believe that Amelia girl is 16. Birth certificate needed, or she'll forever be about 28 in my eyes.

That soldier had it all though. Pregnant wife AND he's a soldier. Whatever happened to one sob-story per person....

Not particularly interested in any of the singers we saw tonight. The only one I liked was Amelia. (and I think right now she's firmly in the "like" not "love" category. I can't get over how much she looks like Christina Aguilera. It's actually a bit of a turn off seeing somebody look exactly like Christina (or any pop star really) It's just a bit like, where's her own style in all of this?

That said I still liked her.

Really liked Amelia and was nice to see someone talented from my Hometown for a change haha

Oh look at that nice soldier man, let's vote for him based on his oil based job alone and not singing.

This guy has 3rd place written all over him. He'll top the vote for the first half of the series then trail off and I shall get increasingly more annoyed each week. I FORESEE IT.

I only started watching the show last year as well, and I can already see the laboured process. But then I get cynical when watching something that is hopeless when it comes to being clever with tropes.

How many more weeks of auditions do we have again? Because laughing at all the mental cases and seeing the good singers so much worse than they'll be later with a predictable 4 yeses if they can hold a note is kinda getting boring. I'll start loving it when we get to bootcamp.

I don't know, I didn't get Amelia that well. I'll have to see her again, she wasn't a huge stand out for me at first.

Dammit. Well I can't be expected to think of different things for here and Twitter can I. I'm not THAT funny.

I'm desperately trying to think who you are on Twitter too....

Sussed choo out? :P

I'm @Parrrtrick on Twitter, but I don't think you're following me. (yet.)

She looked like a glammed up Pixie Lott to me. Very good though. :D Exactly the kind of thing I can imagine listening to in the live shows on a depressing Saturday night in Autumn

Next weeks double bill is the last of the auditions I think...

They said 'as the auditions come to a close' in the 'next episode' bit at the end. So...

17/18: Final Auditions

24/25: Boot Camp

1/2: Judges Houses

8/9: First Live Show

Am I right in thinking that?

You are - with the first live show coincidentally being the weekend of the release of Matt Cardle's single

I didn't find the ones they highlighted tonight the best - I preferred the two shown in the first 15-minute fast-forwarded clips the best; the one who did 'Ain't No Other Man' was especially good. I didn't think the soldier was good at all, and the girl at the end wasn't that great either. I always find they put the best on Xtra Factor anyway - I've not seen tonight's show yet, but from all the other episodes I've seen this series, there have been some brilliant auditionees.

Just in time for Matt's single release :D

That's a very good point actually. If Pop Idol had used this format, there's no way someone like Will Young would've made the live finals...and look how well he's done in the last 10 years.

Did they use the same public vote stage in Pop Idol 2? All I remember was the "wild card" thing and how much of a car crash the entire series in general was.

 at the last performance on the Xtra Factor, the audience were leaving as he started singing... poor Randy
