'Higher' is Gold!

It had sold 370k as of w/e 25th July 2019, meaning it's selling ~219 on average per week.

:cheer:

Amazing - it’s not a song I revisit often but I loved it at the time and was pleased it returned Kylie to the Top 10 after the wobble her singles had in the Aphrodite era after ATL.

Surprised that the November sales were relatively low back then. I thought they would've been higher.
Especially for you having far higher sales for its weeks at number 2 rather than number 1, Great post, love getting this kinda stuff.

Thank you, never seen these figures previously.

Confide in Me does not look right…it’s 2nd chart week at number 4 could have been an increase on week one because Whigfield and Wet Wet Wet had a chart battle that saw increased sales and new at 3 was Luther and Mariah with Endless Love. Popular tracks. That week 3 sale looks too high although I’m quite happy to be wrong!

For the 2000's I could only find week by week sales until the end of 2002 at the moment as the info i've been getting is from the Haven forums & they're still posting 2002, so we will have to wait for the rest. This is what I have so far.

Here's 2000-2002:

Those opening weeks for cant get you out of my head are brill. Can you imagine what that would equate to in todays streaming era. I remember been astonished by her debut sales week.
  • Author

Those sales are estimates from Gezza who posts on Buzzjack, btw!

The sales do look odd for 'Confide in Me' at first glance but I suppose songs did still often rise in sales after their debut so, despite entering at #2 then falling, this might not have been the case for its sales. As mentioned, there was some big hits in Wet Wet Wet and Whigfield at the time. This is what appeared above Kylie in the three weeks 'Confide in Me' was Top 10:

10/09/94

1- LOVE IS ALL AROUND- Wet, wet, wet (65,000)

2- CONFIDE IN ME- Kylie Minogue (46,000)

17/09/94

1- SATURDAY NIGHT- Whigfield (149,000)

2- LOVE IS ALL AROUND- Wet, wet, wet (100,000)

3- ENDLESS LOVE- Mariah Carey & Luther Vandross (68,000)

4- CONFIDE IN ME- Kylie Minogue (61,000)

24/09/94

1- SATURDAY NIGHT- Whigfield (220,000)

2- THE RHYTHM OF THE NIGHT- Corona (65,000)

3- ENDLESS LOVE- Luther Vandross & Mariah Carey (63,000)

4- LOVE IS ALL AROUND- Wet, wet, wet (58,000)

5- ALWAYS- Bon Jovi (51,000)

6- CONFIDE IN ME- Kylie Minogue (50,000)

Those three weeks of sales add up to 157k and 'Confide in Me' sold 209k in 1994, so 52k for rest of the year, which seems like a small amount but the chart run for the rest of the year was -15-26-38-46-62-73-x (the week it was #15, the #10 sold 23k) so it does work out.

Thanks for that Liam…the other thing I’ve just remembered that led to second and third week increases was the newly introduced CD2 often came a week later. They also started more formats generally around this time, it was when CD singles really started selling, exploded in 1995.

Confide in Me did drop off in sales quite quickly after those first three weeks, as can be seen by the chart position.

Interesting, that'll definitely have helped and explains why there was such a sharp drop after week 3. It also had two Top of the Pop performances, one on 25 August and one on 8 September, that second one likely boosting its second and third weeks too.

In other news, Music Week has just given an update on sales for 'Wow'. Total now stands at 268,132. Last total was 234,990 on the w/e 25 July 2019 (150 weeks ago), so 33,142 since then, averaging 221 sales per week.

I had thought wow was on higher but good to see it selling a bit every week although based on the sales pattern it will take a while to reach 300k.
We could do with a sales update like the one we received in 2019… those were ace.

I know! :( Can't believe it's been 3 years.
