From Haven, the 'panel sales' for Kylie's songs on the 1988 Year End Chart with estimated total sales based on the market:

3. 36,249 I Should Be So Lucky 616,233

4. 32,659 Especially For You 555,203

11. 21,996 The Loco-Motion 373,932

20. 16,771 Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi 285,107

21. 16,587 Got To Be Certain 281,979

I am a little bit confused about what the first number denotes. Panel sales? What exactly are they? Is the second figure the total amount they sold in 1988?

At the time full sales weren’t collected/reported. Sales were recorded from a number of outlets and used to estimate total weekly sales.

And yes - I believe that’s what that last figure is.

Yeah the panel sales are multiplied by the size of the market I think, so the second figures are the total sales sold in that year.

Can't believe I've only just discovered this thread with all these BEAUTIFUL NUMBERS on it after like 13 years on Buzzjack.

Thanks for all the effort!

#12 is not horrendous considering it lost playlist support - also R2 due to their market share seem to have a massive impact on the radio charts so even though she’s off the playlist I’m sure she’ll get a few spins still.

Considering Kylie singles usually fall out of the chart all together once they lose Radio 2 playlisting, #12 is rather good!
Excellent! I'm also happy/relieved that it managed to get that 1 week at #1 before the support declined.
Ya a number 1 airplay is great for Kylie regardless of how long it stayed there, its also great to see Kylie having a 10 week run in the official Top 30 which is more than all the singles from golden and disco combined managed in the top 100.

So Padam getting an 11th (and most probably last at very least until the album release) week in the top-40 and entering a very narrow circle of Kylie singles having more than 10 weeks in the top-40.

Kylie singles to have more than 10 top-40 weeks

I Should Be So Lucky - 13 wks

Especially for You - 12 wks

Can't Get You out of My Head - 20 wks

Wow - 15 wks

There are a few singles on 10 weeks though:

Got to Be Certain - 10 wks

Kids - 10 wks

2 Hearts - 10 wks

All the Lovers - 10 wks

That Kylie has two Silver singles in the last 5-6 years (Padam Padam and Dancing) is really impressive. I'd expect SMFF, Say Something, Magic and Real Groove to be on over 100k by now and hopefully at least one to not be too far off Silver given the impressive streaming stats of Disco?
