September 3, 201113 yr Read the post again I never said she was   I have been reminded yet again why i left this place. I know you didn't say she was, there really is no need to be so rude. What I'm saying is that Clare's album WAS eligible for the prize but the Mercury Panel didn't think the album was strong enough to even shortlist it, let alone win.
September 3, 201113 yr Dandy is correct. It's not as if they have one panel deciding who is nominated and another deciding who wins. It's like saying - if only that single went top 40 then it would have got to number 1. Edited September 3, 201113 yr by tonyttt31
September 6, 201113 yr I'm in a rather odd situation of having very little interest in this tonight purely because there's not really anything I want to win. The only three I actually like are Elbow, Metronomy and James Blake, but I don't think Elbow's album is anywhere near as strong as three of their previous four, Metronomy are very overrated, the album is not that good, and James Blake is terribly hit and miss.
September 6, 201113 yr PJ Harvey all the way for me, by far my favourite album out of the contenders. I wouldn't mind seeing a James Blake, Anna Calvi or, bizarrely enough, Adele victory either.
September 6, 201113 yr PJ Harvey or James Blake for me although neither are the best British album of the year, sadly (for me anyway).
September 6, 201113 yr I'm still sulking over the overlooking of Friendly Fires and The Joy Formidable. I really get the feeling they'll go for the painfully obvious of Adele this year for some reason. I really hope not though. Would be happy with either of James Blake, PJ Harvey, Elbow or Metronomy.
September 6, 201113 yr At the time of nominations I hadn't heard a single album of the 12. I've since listened to Metronomy and Jon Hopkins & King Creosote and neither really impressed me. KC has done much better stuff in the past and Metronomy's album was as poor as their last one. So, I'm really stuck in terms of who to support. I might just go for PJ Harvey and imagine it's as good as I'd like it to be. As long as Adele doesn't win really.
September 6, 201113 yr Diamond Mine at 7/1 now :o Looks like Creosote & Hopkins are in with a decent shot then!
September 6, 201113 yr This is tonight, yes? All I can see on the TV schedule is half an hour on BBC2 (10-10.30)...isn't it usually a couple of hours? I'm hoping for a Metronomy/James Blake/PJ Harvey win.

I'm hoping for a Metronomy/James Blake/PJ Harvey win. They show the results live, then they show repeats of all 12 performances on Friday. Anyway, I'd like to see Elbow win, although I imagine it will be PJ Harvey. KC & Hopkins is quite nice as well.
September 6, 201113 yr They usually show the full thing later in the week, Friday I think. On the shows page on the BBC website tonight's is listed as Part 1 but I can't find another part anywhere.
September 6, 201113 yr Author Part 2 is only on BBC HD. I just hope it's also on the red button for those of us who don't have the HD channel :(

I'm hoping it's on the red button too, it'd be a shame to limit it to only HD viewers.
September 6, 201113 yr I have a terrible feeling they will choose Adele just because she's so popular right now and because PJ Harvey has already won.
September 6, 201113 yr I don't want Adele to win this - I'd just rather something a bit more 'under the radar' won and hell, it's not like she NEEDS the sales boost :drama: I would like to see Elbow win this, but it looks unlikely, but I think it will be PJ Harvey or James Blake
September 6, 201113 yr I'm hoping for a Metronomy/James Blake/PJ Harvey win. Sire, my feelings are in quite the same ballpark as your good self. Adele's the only person to have gotten ANY musical attention this year so this would be wasted on her and would give someone more obscure acts the chance to rise to Speech Dabelle INFAMY. September 6, 201113 yr Please not Metronomy. What an overrated bunch. But they write such lovely songs about lovely Devon. What's not to like?
