Willow was up against The Time though. It's not an ordinary song. Plus, the BEPs had just performed on the X Factor, and like with when Someone Like You was performed, the public was touched by the performance, and went to buy the song, getting it to #1.

You don't stand a chance in that situation. But when you're up against JLS's 2nd week, I think she'll be fine. :) Cher is awesome. I wish her all the best.

I have to ask, why would anybody have been touched by that performance? It was truly cringeworthy, and one of the show's worst performances. I never heard anyone say a good word about it and the people I watched it with at the time were all horrified. Their performance the year before was better...

I don't think there's any way Example won't be #1, but I hope not. It's alright, but bland especially in comparison to his recent #1. I always said it was this year's 'I'm Not Alone', maybe stay awake will be this year's 'Ready For The Weekend'?

What about Ed Sheeran? I think all of you are being a bit too unrealistic, this does not sound like a No.1, it sounds more like Top 3. ;)

Really? It sounds absolutely like a #1 to me and I'd be shocked if it didn't make it. I suppose there is a chance Ed Sheeran could beat him but it'll definitely be at least #2.

Cher is quite possibly the most obvious number 1 of the year, but why am I getting horrible feelings that it's going to "do a Willow Smith 'Whip My Hair'"? :(

'Stay Awake' is the only song of the year so far which I thought would be a #1 right from when I first heard of its existence  But there's no way in hell Swagger Jagger will miss #1, it should easily pass 100k and I wouldn't be surprised if it came close to 150k.

About Ed Sheeran, I hope he will release the Acoustic version on the same week... It's very familiar since last year and I think it's much better than the final studio one and I'm not the only one... maybe together it will be more powerful on the chart.

^ I'm sure he will. Lots of artists release acoustic versions of their song, so I don't see why Ed Sheeran wouldn't.

I could see him debuting at #1 tbh. I think people are interested in him, since he's like a "new upcoming popstar" to the mainstream audience, if you get what I mean. Like how Price Tag debuted at #1, even though it wasn't promoted much before. And Ed's new song has had way more pre-release promotion than Price Tag did.

Down With the Trumpets up to #12!!!

I agree, I think he'll probably release an EP with that version on as well (ala A Team and chart high in the Itunes Album chart). He will be coming from one of the biggest hits of the year, he'll be getting some hype as its close to the album plus it seems to be getting alot of love on youtube (twice the views that Example video has had so far - not that necessarily means much).

I'd say CTWYKM sounded more of a #1 but you never know. SA will go top 3 guaranteed anyway.

It was abysmal and I don't understand why Will.I.Am performed the entire song half a second out of sync to the other three. Was his ear piece not working? It was the same when he performed 'I Gotta Feeling' with Cher Lloyd. Cher seemed capable of singing in time to the backing track whilst Will.I.Am again was slightly out of time for the entire performance.

Of course Simon Cowell would never criticise Will.I.Am for being "out of time with the music". Only the contestants suffer if it happens to them - even if they're note perfect. Go figure!!! -_-

Besides, the reason why 'Meet Me Halfway' was so much better was all down to Fergie who single handedly outsang Leona Lewis that night. So it wasn't that surprising to see 'MMH' outsell 'Happy' the following week.

I don't think Simon would criticize will.i.am for singing out of time, since he's a guest performer. He's not a contestent, and he's not there to be criticized!

Umltimately, The Time jumped from 6-1 after their performance. Nobody here may've liked it, but those figures speak for themselves really. Lots of people watched the performance, and thought "Wow, that was amazing", and bought the song.

Cher Lloyd - Swagger Jagger is #7 on irish itunes so far, And the EP is #9 on the album charts :)
Black Eyed Peas are a terrible live act. When they performed at the Superbowl I've never known such hate written and said about a live performance, saying it was dreadful was being kind.

I Gotta Feeling went back to #11 on US iTunes after the Superbowl, so clearly some people like it. You know, the most downloaded song of all time going back to #11 on iTunes 2 years after it was released. Not an easy thing to do!

I'd say some of Cher Lloyd's performances on the X Factor got more hate than the BEPs at the Superbowl, bearing in mind the UK is a smaller country than the US aswell. Lots of people hated their performance, but they weren't getting hundreds of death threats like Cher did. Plus most of Cher's performances were better than the BEPs's Superbowl performance anyway, so it was even more unfair.

The BEPs have done some good live performances. But most importantly, they have lots of great songs. I listen to their songs all day. It doesn't matter what they're like live. It's the music that counts.

It's not the fact everyone loved the performance, it was dreadful, it's more to do with the song itself

Well, yes, that's probably true. The song is very good, I suppose.

I also think the performance helped introduce people to the song aswell. It's not a radio-friendly song, for obvious reasons (the rapping, the autotune, the sampling, the beat, etc.), and a lot of people that watch the X Factor are the Heart FM crowd (hence why they hate Cher I guess). So it's quite possible that it was the first time they'd ever heard the song.

It was also interesting to note that Meet Me Halfway and The Time were both behind Happy and Whip My Hair respectively in the first few midweeks, even though they performed on the Sunday. I think that's probably because it took a while for people to get over the whole performance, before going "Hey, that's actually a really good song, I want to listen to it more". I think the songs took a few days to grow on the people that watched the performances.

With "The Time", it's more due to the fact that Willow was rather frontloaded and BEP were climbing the charts so their momentum was already picking up. With "Meet Me Halfway", your argument is more likely to be the case.

^ Yeah, that's probably true. I'm also really glad that Meet Me Halfway got the #1, not because I prefer the song, but travel forwards 6 or 7 weeks and:

[01] 01| Lady GaGa - Bad Romance (also #30)

[03] 02| Black Eyed Peas - Meet Me Halfway

[04] 03| Ke$ha - TiK ToK

[05] 04| Rihanna - Russian Roulette

[02] 05| Joe McElderry - The Climb

[06] 06| 3OH!3 feat. Katy Perry - Starstrukk

[10] 07| Journey - Don't Stop Believin'

[07] 08| Cheryl Cole feat. will.i.am - 3 Words (also #159)

[08] 09| Robbie Williams - You Know Me

[09] 10| JLS - Everybody In Love (also #129)

[11] 11| Chipmunk feat. Talay Riley - Look For Me (also #113)

[13] 12| Alexandra Burke - Broken Heels

[12] 13| Alexandra Burke feat. Flo Rida - Bad Boys (also #69)

[15] 14| N-Dubz feat. Mr Hudson - Playing With Fire

[16] 15| The Saturdays - Ego

[14] 16| Jason Derulo - Whatcha Say (also #142)

[18] 17| Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling (also #77, #260)

[17] 18| Cheryl Cole - Fight For This Love (also #41, #189)

[19] 19| Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys - Empire State Of Mind (also #152)

[20] 20| Timbaland feat. Nelly Furtado & SoShy - Morning After Dark

[23] 21| Pixie Lott - Cry Me Out (also #76)

[31] 22| Florence + The Machine - You've Got The Love

[22] 23| Alicia Keys - Doesn't Mean Anything (also #276)

[24] 24| Miley Cyrus - Party In The U.S.A. (also #217)

[27] 25| Jay-Z feat. Mr Hudson - Young Forever

[21] 26| Jay Sean feat. Lil Wayne - Down (also #165)

[30] 27| Chris Brown feat. Lil Wayne & Swizz Beatz - I Can Transform Ya

[28] 28| JLS - Beat Again (also #121)

[33] 29| Leona Lewis - Happy (also #85)

[26] 30| Lady GaGa - Bad Romance

It would've been a bit ridiculous for Happy to beat Meet Me Halfway, and then for it to be dropping out of the top 30 while Meet Me Halfway was still top 3.

lmao. Katy Perry, Rihanna and Lady Gaga all in the top 10. It's almost like the Buzzjack multi-chart.

Odd you're looking at that now cos I was just watching the end of the Top 100 Biggest Selling Rock Hits of the Century, and Rage Against The Machine were #3. Of the 705,000 copies they sold, 500,000 came about two weeks before that iTunes chart :D

I assume the 2 biggest-selling are the two Kings of Leon songs?

I wonder when the next time we get a high-selling rock song again will be. I think rock music will make a bit of a comeback in the future. At least, I hope it does. I don't like the genre, at all tbh, but for variety's sake, I'd like it to happen.

I think the charts were really good at that time. So many massive hits, like Whatcha Say, I Gotta Feeling, Empire State of Mind, Fight For This Love.

I mean, that top 3, Bad Romance, Meet Me Halfway, and Tik Tok, all huge songs. And Meet Me Halfway and Bad Romance were both in the 10 best-selling digital songs of all-time thing that Radio 1 did a few months ago. Coincidentally, those three songs were also the three biggest songs of 2010 in Europe!? :o

It seems that we are now getting 1:30 min previews like the US iTunes! :D But it doesn't seem to be the whole of iTunes, in the top 10, 'Glad You Came' and 'Super Bass' only have 30 sec previews

So we can listen to most of the radio edit of We No Speak Americano for free then!

Also, I love Alex Gaudino, but I was listening to his remix of Glad You Came, and it sounds so much like Pendulum. :o
