This thread is for all the 'W T EFF' moments in the history of BJSC.

Do you ever look back on a contest where you came 17th in the semi and think 'what was I thinking there?'?

Do you think the same about someone else's entry?

For all the W T EFF's. :D

I'll get started.

What the fook was I on when I entered Black Gold last month. Seriously the most buzzjack-unfriendly song I've entered. Completely unknown AND none of them have boobs. :( Terrible choice. At least with Kill Hannah the singer sounds like they may be able to have babies!

I still love them, but maybe they would have been best left out of BJSC :kink:

Jolin Tsai - Honey Trap

It DID qualify, but did terribly in the final. I still maintain it could have easily been a winner in English. I know BJ aren't that xenophobic but still, Mandarin is hardly the most accessible language is it?

I don't regret sending either of my DNQ's, nor Example or Caro Emerald - they proved their worth eventually :D

The big one was Her Majesty & The Wolves - Stars In Their Eyes a few months back, ok it finished 7th which was pretty amazing considering that I was never particularly into the song that much - it really was a DRY time for inspiration, it was either that or White Light Moment/We Should Go Home Together - great songs but the level of hype already around them turned me off sending them.

And as much as I LOVE Värsta Schlagern, I was sort of swayed there by the fact that everyone else was sending parody/joke entries and felt that I'd get in on the act too (mainly because at the time I thought it would be my final contest!) and it does stick out like a sore thumb a bit amongst my entries  Of course, I dropped Young Blood at the last minute, which almost certainly would have got top five. It would have felt like a hollow success though because it had just won Unknown Pleasures, when I initially confirmed it the UP songs list hadn't even been announced yet afaik.

Another interesting diversion of this topic could be - potential top 5's that you reckon you've thrown away (i.e. confirmed, but backed out of for whatever reason) - here's a few of those that I can think of;

The Naked & Famous - Young Blood (went with Varsta Schlagern)

Camilla Blom Polfeldt - Gone (went with Strawberry Shake)

Janet - Let Go (then again, Uh Huh Her did WIN that contest so I picked the right one in the end - maybe - I wonder if this could have maybe done it too!)

Cassandra Steen feat Adel Tawil - Stadt (maybe not a top 5 but I'm still gutted that I never sent this at the time when I was obsessing over it - I went with Fabio Lendrum which whilst great it can't touch this)

However, in the case of Varsta Schlagern, Strawberry Shake and Not A Love Song, I do actually prefer these three songs over those that I dropped, so musically I did the right thing. As for Stadt, I guess I thought that the German language barrier would scare people off but I really should have taken a chance on it - it was #1 in my chart after all and would have been perfect in terms of inspiration!

My 12 (or 18)-pointer that contest. Incredible stuff

Indeed, and thanks! :D . It picked up high points from those who liked it but so many didn't vote for it, hence it ended in the bottom 10 :(

Ghosty! Genuine  at both of your entries, they're like things that would have been on Eurotrash in the 90s!

Jasmine - Hot Lovin'. NEVER AGAIN. I don't even think my other DNQ (Dead Disco - You're Out [Frankmusik Remix]) was even that crazy, it was just incredibly unlucky really - that month's semi was an absolute bloodbath.

But yeah, nothing else really compares to this.

What an intro! Pity it blinded me to how terrible the verses were (I actually still quite like the bridge, middle eight and chorus...).

And it's QUITE OBV not a 3/10 Rich! On listening two years after I'd say it's at least a 5!

This is your ONLY entry I've ever rated as less than an 8/10 unless I'm mistaken :o

It got a 4/10 mark for the record  Still waiting on the now legednary The Truth though. If somebody could leak that along with the studio version of White Diamond (uptempo) I'd be very happy indeed!

It was a 4, I just checked my ratings from that contest :heehee: I remain of this opinion :(

That was a last minute change too as well iirc, what were you going to send initially?

I love that line from your song Juranamo  I've had it on repeat :drama: But anyway!

My 'WTF' moment was probably in XXXII when I sent 'Flags' by Brooke Fraser

At the time I was completely looning over her, so it was obviously going to be one of her songs I was going to send. I was constantly changing my entry in between 'Something In The Water' (which finished 4th in XXXV), 'Betty' (which I can see being entered in the not to distant future and I'd imagine would finish top 20, maybe top 10?) and 'Flags'. In hindsight, it was probably the least BJSC friendly of the three songs that I sent, and it came 29th out of 34 songs in the 'one big final' format, with only three countries voting for it (Thank you Zechonia, Espen and Unovia  ) So that wasn't too great :(

Another regret was in XXXV when I chose 'We Love' (which finished 20th) over 'We Run The Night' (which finished 2nd), so essentially I've thrown away two top 5 entries already

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how you manage to do with Ti Amo in comparison to We Shine. Have both qualified? Or have neither? Or has only one of them?

Aarrggh! You are very good at stirring up people's doubts :P I think BOTH will qualify :D

I forget actually! I may have to go back to the confirmation thread for that contest...

I know  . Both would have been amazing in Eurovision this year tbh :heehee:

I've just remembered - YENN! Not that it would've set the tables alight anyway judging by her performance for Torchwood with the same track two contests later...

Ah yes, at least it wouldn't have DNQ'd. I felt genuinely responsible/slightly disheartened to be the host to have to announce your first DNQ :(

I suppose if I'd actually liked the song it would have been a lot harder though
