02/08/2011 - Bruno Mars Joins The One Million Sellers Elite

Bruno Mars' Just The Way You Are (Amazing) has become the UK's 108th million-selling single. It has taken 43 weeks to reach the milestone, since its release in September 2010. It's Bruno's third single, but his first as a solo artist. His other two are the Official Number One Singles Grenade and The Lazy Song.

Mars (born Peter Hernandez), the Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and producer, also counts credits on a number of other hit records as part of the production/ songwriting trio The Smeezingtons, formed with friends Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine. These include Flo Rida’s Right Round (Official Singles Chart Number One in 2009) and K’naan’s Wavin’ Flag (Official Singles Chart Number Two in 2010).

Mars also performed as a featured vocalist on the international number one Nothin’ On You by B.o.B (Official Singles Chart Number One in May 2010) and Travie McCoy’s summer anthem Billionaire (Official Singles Chart Number Three in July 2010).

He also made history earlier this year by becoming the first artist in 60 years to reach Number One with his first three singles and his debut album.

Doo-Wops & Hooligans was an Official Albums Chart Number One in January this year and has reached double platinum status.

Good for him I say - I love Just The Way You Are!

I hate the song. But good for him.

I wonder which will be the next million-seller now. I assume it'll be Matt Cardle, but I think it might take a while. But he should get a sales boost when the X Factor starts again and he releases his album.

108th? Is this an error or have a couple more singles just sneeked past the milestone in recent months? This is so deserving though.
I really don't like this song at all and am surprised it has done so well. Grenede is much better.
Is he really the first artist in 60 years..? I can think of a few groups have done it but no solos so I guess that might be right

I'm guessing Will Young doesn't count because of 'Long And Winding Road / Suspicious Minds' being counted as a duo.

surely spice girls did, unless this means just solo artists

Nice to see another song reach the million-milestone and after 43 weeks. Obviously Adele reached the feat significantly quicker, but to have a million copies sold in under 12 months is still pretty impressive for a new artist (at the time).
How close is 'Love The Way You Lie' to reaching the 1m mark? I've just realised LTWYL and JTWYA have very similar titles. :kink:

I notice that when they were right next to each other on iTunes once.

It was something like this:

12. ____ the Way You __e

13. ____ the Way You __e

:P

Still some way off : ~976.5k, and averaging less than 2k/wk now.

At least 3 months yet.

It's just a shame there's a million people out there who like their music bland, insipid and deeply boring.

It depends on what you want out of music.

If you want something to dance around to, or express grievances via, then obviously he wouldn't be your first choice.

OTOH if you're just looking to chill out, as most older music fans are, then something more sedate will be preferred.

His music is better than 90% of the stuff currently in the charts. Maybe even higher.

I agree. His voice is awful. Good music rarely troubles the singles charts any more.

But music to chill out to doesn't have to mean boring or middle of the road.

 Definitely not! :P
