 Well I did say I'd not heard it. I was expecting Cher Lloyd to be away ahead of everyone else this week on iTunes but apparantly she's not far ahead of JLS. I reckon there will be a couple of :o #1 singles over the next couple of months. There isn't anything on the release schedule that screams "next big hit" as in the next track that does well over a period of time. There's a list "potential no. 1 hits" like Nero 'Promises', Olly Murs 'Heart Skips A Beat' and Example 'Stay Awake' but if they were to become no. 1 hits, they'll only stay there for a week before the inevitable collapse.

I still think that Chasing Cars has lengthened Snow Patrol's career massively and without it they'd have long since disappeared out of the charts. Despite having a couple of classic singles, they're very much on a level below Coldplay - even if they're still above loads of their contemporaries. But I think they'll continue to rapidly fall foul of the law of diminishing returns with each subsequent album now much like Travis did a decade ago (remember how big they once were!). I certainly don't think that they'll ever come anywhere close to having a UK #1 single. A top ten hit would be impressive for them these days!
* My Chemical Romance - The Only Hope For Me Is You

OH YES one of the best songs on the album. Great that they keep on supporting them.

There's a run in the second half of "Danger Days" (Summertime and DESTROYA mainly) that are crying out for release, but they're not really going to get another hit single from the album now.

Also, why are BMTH re-releasing "It Never Ends"?

It wouldn't surprise me to be honest. On the other hand, Snow Patrol's new single has been C-listed. This is also released on 5th September and this might be a really odd prediction but I think this could prove to be the shock #1 that week. That said, I've not actually heard the track but I remember when the blandfest that was 'Signal Fire' managed to get as high as #4 in 2007.

I think Kasabian's newie is far more likely to go top 10, let alone no.1...

Robyn out! :(

But it was only just beginning to get anywhere near beginning to get close to being popular. :(

I know. :( Not fair. However, I'm grateful it's actually charted which is more than I'd ever expected of it a couple of months ago.

I'm wondering if Britney will get playlisted next week, I keep being informed the official release date is the 8th August...

She won't. Shame though, one of her best ever songs I reckon. :(

Snow Patrol only got to #15 with their last lead single and even that was an achievement - although that was a greatest hits era single so Called Out In The Dark could do a bit better I suppose? I'd still be very surprised if it went top 10 regardless of its quality though. And it'll be being outsold weekly by fecking Chasing Cars within 2 months of release anyway...

I think Nero and Example at least could have some longevity. Olly Murs is probably more likely to enter at #1 and then plummet but I still wouldn't be too surprised if he held up. I mean, The Wanted and JLS have. No reason Olly wouldn't as well!

BRUNO! JESSIE! PIXIE!

All deserve to be absolutely huge.

'Swagger Jagger' still only B!? I guess that's where my excuse for it not doing as well as it should have, will be coming from :kink:

I guess you're right, there's not a lot of competition at the moment compared to this time last year. For eg; Loick Essein got to no. 2 a couple of weeks back selling just over 50k yet Swedish House Mafia got to no. 7 around this time last year selling 49,999 - so there were definitely more "bigger" hits in the summer of 2010. This year seems to be a dry patch for big new releases.

Leona will be added next week or the week after im sure, once video is out and more exposure/hype. :) Pixie's video has already been out for 2 weeks or so! I prefer Leona's to come mid-August anyway so hype/exposure nearer release date.

A-List

Adele - Set Fire To The Rain Stay here for weeks to come please! :P

Emeli Sande - Heaven :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: Want this #1!

Wretch 32 featuring Josh Kumra - Don't Go Another top 3 hit i'd say. Hated Traktor but grown to Wretch with this, and comes across as a decent guy.

B-List

Olly Murs featuring Rizzle Kicks - Heart Skips A Beat

C-List

* Bruno Mars - Marry You

* Jessie J - Who's Laughing Now

A-List

Arctic Monkeys - The Hellcat Spangled Shalala

Why is this A-listed - didn't they bother checking where the previous one charted?

They probably realised how much better it is than most of the stuff that will end up charting higher and thought they'd give the listeners a break from crap.

Well, that's what Capital do. If an artists starts flopping they stop playing them (e.g. Britney Spears).

Radio 1 is different though. I think the station tries to play a variety of genres, so it's always going to have rock songs on the playlist tbh.

Both ways are good imo, as long as the stations stay true to their word.

It got to #28, a higher peak than the previous singles from All Time Low (#85), Eminem (#33), Modestep (#38), Noah And The Whale (#67) and The Strokes (not top 100), all of whose new singles are also on the A-List. Ignoring the fact this is not what Radio 1 bases their playlist on anyway, especially for acts of the indie/rock persuasion, 'The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala' seems like an odd song to be picking on to make your point.
