It was for a while, but has picked up in the last month or so - Chrisina Perri, Pixie, Saturdays etc.

I think they did break pre-order records, Leona tweeted about it.

So it probably will get highest first week sales of the year, whats the highest first week sales ever?

Elton John and Will Young both sold over a million first week I believe. I don't know what this record is but I don't think 1D will best Hear'say's first week sales.

I havent seen much variety really.

Surely even if you don't like what's been in the top 10, you can at least see that the last three months have been a hell of a lot more varied than the previous months?

Yeah in todays climate cant see anybody ever selling anything like a million in one week, or even 500,000 for that matter (excluding X Factor winner)

Very few? This week may be a bit sparse but the last three weeks have each seen at least two very high profile new entries in the top five, there's been a lot more movement in the charts lately!

Taste is obviously a different matter, personally I think mainstream music has picked itself up after a dull couple of months.

That is a good point about the previous few weeks although for about a month before it, there were very few releases which for me were very poor in quality (see She makes me wanna and swagger jagger). I will agree with you that in the last few weeks it has picked up, it's just that for me in terms of the two month timescale, July and the beginning of August were unforgivably bad, so if you're wondering how I formed my opinion about it being terrible, the first half of the month has had a big influence on that.

My favourite release of the week is by far Kasabian and they're not doing well as I hoped. :( Did they release the video for 'Days are Forgotten'?

Will Young sold a million in one week? :o

Suppose it was the first real talent show winner though thats probably why, I havn't seen the figures but I'm guessing theres been a steady decline of sales from the winners singles first week year on year? maybe with the exception of leona lewis.

EP's:

Snow Patrol #10

Leona Lewis #46

Pixie Lott #62

Olly Murs #85

I'm sure Shayne Ward & Alexandra Burke debuts both outsold Leona.

Never mind One Direction, is anyone else suprised at how well Olly Murs is doing? :o He's about to go back to #4 on iTunes. :o
I nearly dropped my tea over the laptop like the woman from the Money Shop adverts at how far One Direction are in the lead :o . Really quite extraordinary...
