Still not very good for the lead single from "the best band in the world"'s new album following double platinum selling predecessor.

Of course not, it's dire but they'll be judged on how much "Velociraptor!" opens with next week. Any less than 100k would be a failure.

Kasabian's position surprises me and it doesn't. For a band that were so big last time it's a disappointing position, I thought they'd at the very least match Snow Patrol, but the new single is pretty poor at best. Personally I think all the tracks on their previous album are better than it.

Laura Marling at #2! :o

She will inevitably drop throughout the week but still, brilliant start!

It should end the week at #4 I think which would be good, unless Joe climbs all the way back up again over the week. Still, guaranteed top 5!

takin out one directions b-side it means 2 top 5 weeks for the saturdays. i notice joe mcelderry is just ahead of will in the albums, i hope Will young climbs above him by the end of the week

It might open with 80k or so but without a decent single they'll do RHCP (huge 2nd week drop)

Shameful that Laura Marling is not the number 1 album... (the most talented female singer/songwriter the UK has seen in around 20 years)

Ed fxxking Sheeran.... pathetic..

Laura Marling better stay top 2, although she should fall a few places by Sunday ... Great start nonetheless.

Err... Nerina Pallot, Dido, to name just two...

All equally valid, I don't know their back catalogues well enough. "Devil's Spoke" is a stunning song.

Great for Ed Sheeran, glad Example has dropped. One Direction are likely to do about 160k this week.Pixie will have no staying power and big drop for Leona.

I think we're forgetting the most obvious one who won a Mercury last week...

One direction have already sold more than what Cher Lloyd did during her first week and will no doubt eclispe her total sales by the end of this week.
Surprised that Ed Sheeran is only 10,000 of outselling Example's first week sales.

Any sum to indicate where Snow Patrol are this week?

Not much to comment on this week. Quite boring apart from the sales. I wonder how much Maroon 5 will fetch this week?

Well, given their awfuly huge sales, they're basically gonna eclipse a lot of artists this week, not only Cher Lloyd ...

Both Ed & One Direction sales are really impressive! Ed's album looks like its going to do really well, especially with the upcoming months it could go double platinum by December.Quite early for a prediction like that though  but i can see it having same longevity as The A Team! :P

One D sales are just incredible, 80,000+ in the first mids? Just insane! Could they be even bigger then JLS? :o

Is Lady Gaga - You and I not Top 40?

No, otherwise we would have listed it.

Very pleased with the top two on both charts and the sales!

Love the One Direction song (the b-side not so much but I guess that's mostly physicals yet to be combined), definitely heading for the fastest selling single of the year then, not a huge surprise in all honesty...

Very pleased and not at all surprised at Ed's opening sales, his fanbase have been waiting for this album for years, and then add all of the new fans and it was always going to be on for an opening sale of around 100k imo. Really liking Laura's album too although it took a couple of listens to click with me...

should be heading for some excellent sales on both charts this week :D just 18k off 100k in a day is amazing for One Direction, I'm pretty sure this will surpass Grenade's first week sales, hopefully Coldplay will show up tomorrow, it wouldn't surprise me if it misses the top 10 though due to a Monday release :(

good to see Delilah top 40 too, although it may also drop out by Sunday
