Posted September 12, 201114 yr Sheeran and One Direction heading for top 11:08 | Tuesday September 13, 2011 By Paul Williams Source: MW Ed Sheeran looks a certainty to top the UK artist albums chart this weekend after currently outselling his five nearest rivals combined, while One Direction’s introductory single will debut at number one on singles with one of the biggest first-week sales of the year. Singles The big news on singles is the debut single from Syco act and former X Factor finalists One Direction with What Makes You Beautiful having already sold 82,785 copies so far this week. Its accompanying track Na Na Na is registering on Tuesday’s sales flashes as a new entry in third place with the group’s two songs separated by A&M/Octone/Polydor’s Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera in second spot. Having debuted at number one last Sunday, Mercury act Pixie Lott’s All About Tonight has suffered a 52% week-on-week drop in sales and is the week so far’s fourth top seller with Ministry of Sound act Example’s own former number one Stay Awake holding in fifth place. Just a fortnight after The Death Of You And Me debuted at 15 on the chart, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are poised to score a second hit with the Sour Mash-issued AKA What A Life cropping up as a new entry at 17 in the midweeks. Ahead of the release next week of their new album, Columbia act Kasabian are new in the midweeks singles chart at 22 with Days Are Forgotten Albums Sheeran’s Asylum/Atlantic first album + sold 43,296 copies up until the end of business on Monday, according to the Official Charts Company, more than the totals so far this week of Virgin act Laura Marling’s third album A Creature I Don’t Know, which presently appears as a new entry at number two, Adele’s third-placed XL album 21, Example’s Ministry of Sound album Playing In The Shadows at four and new entries from Kooks and Dream Theater. Marling’s newly-released album has a chance of eclipsing the number four chart peak of her previous release I Speak Because I Can, although there are currently only around 3,400 sales separating it in second place and fourth-placed Example who debuted at number one on the chart last Sunday. Fellow Virgin act Kooks’ own newly-released third album Junk Of The Heart is a further 2,800 sales behind in fifth place presently, while Roadrunner act Dream Theater’s new album A Dramatic Turn Of Events is showing up as a new entry at six. Other acts set to debut with new albums on this coming Sunday’s chart will include Nuclear Blast’s Anthrax, Proper’s Nick Lowe, Decca’s Imelda May and Kingsway’s Worship Central. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Top 40 Only Singles 1 One Direction [WMYB] {82,785} 2 Maroon 5/Christina 3 One Direction [NNN] {Likely to be physical sales} 4 Pixie Lott {52% week-on-week drop} 5 Example Top 20 16 Jessie J Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds Top 30 Kasabian 24 Rihanna Bad Meets Evil/Bruno Mars Beyonce Top 40 32 Nicki Minaj/Rihanna 36 Delilah ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Albums 1 Ed Sheeran {43,296} {outselling #2-#6 combined} 2 Laura Marling {3,400 sales between #2-#4} 3 Adele [21] 4 Example 5 The Kooks {2,400 sales behind #4} Top 10 6 Dream Theater Top 20 The Vaccines 19 Rihanna Top 30 22 Katy Perry Maroon 5 Anthrax 29 Nick Lowe Imelda May Top 40 Caro Emerald Cee Lo Green Worship Central David Guetta NO SALES INFO ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ARTIST UPDATES Singles The Saturdays 5+1 Olly Murs 5+2 Leona Lewis 5+5 Ed Sheeran [YNMIDNY] 10+2 Will Young 10+3 Adele [sFTTR] 20+1, [sLY] 20+7 JLS 20+3 Beyonce 20+8 Nicole 20+10 Albums David Guetta 5+2 Red Hot Chilli Peppers 5+3 Joe McElderry 5+4 Will Young 5+5 Jessie J 10+8 Lady GaGa 10+10 Beyonce 20+4

Its just simple addition or substraction. Go Figure.
September 13, 201114 yr I expect another One Direction track in the Top 10 today. ^_^ Edited September 13, 201114 yr by FM11
September 13, 201114 yr Well The Kooks certiainly won't be challenging for any life-defining positions. Although the end position may well place them in a secure role of shelf-stacking in Tesco or something. :P (Not that I have anything against shelf-stackers!) One Direction for #2 plz. Though that will NEVER happen. :P And the song is good, just maybe not deserved of selling millions in it's first week.
September 13, 201114 yr I always thought that's what Dermott O'Leary was saying. For me, more the voice over guy.
September 13, 201114 yr Clearly One Direction's rip-off of "Summer Nights" will be #1, I reckon about 60K for Sunday/Monday - hopefully we'll get sales. I wonder if Coldplay will have made the Top 40 after just 1 day of sales?
September 13, 201114 yr OK... who changed the sub title  it wasn't me What? That's their name isn't it? Anyway they are inevitably #1, but somehow their B-side is #3 :o And Ed Sheeran is #1 album. Update coming soon :)
September 13, 201114 yr Author From what I can see Coldplay are not top 40 :o Noel Gallagher is listed twice in the database so we only have a top 39 in the singles, Tom is on the case with the update

September 13, 201114 yr "Na Na Na" MCR cover? Huge disappointment for Kasabian.. Even Noel G is outselling them. Edited September 13, 201114 yr by SKOB
September 13, 201114 yr Laura Marling at #2! :o She will inevitably drop throughout the week but still, brilliant start!
September 13, 201114 yr Kasabian at #22 is better than I expected given they're only #43 on iTunes. Going to drop obviously but with One Direction's b-side being taken out they should get top 40 with ease at least.

Still not very good for the lead single from "the best band in the world"'s new album following double platinum selling predecessor.
