No, because if Maroon 5 gain back a lot over the weekend then Rihanna's lead now is meaningless, especially as Wednesday is the lowest sales day of the week.

Well it was originally meant as a joke but part of me really did think it would happen. It was me thinking that there's no way Maroon 5 would get to no.1 because this week seemed *too* quiet.

Agree. Prior to when the Rihanna track was released, MLJ would have sold approx half of it's weekly total (Sun, Mon and Tue sales).

 

Rihanna therefore needs to average a lead of 100% I.e. Average of M5 at 50% or less until Saturday to topple them

 

Given she is selling about 150% more at this stage and the initial burst will drop at some point, I'd say it's still too early to call.

Well quite. Since when has the chart been a barometer of quality? You just have to look at Florence flopping outside the Top 20 to know that 'good song ≠ good chart position'.

 

I still think Rihanna will do it, the number 1 effect has now kicked in and her lead should remain fairly consistent up until the weekend (which will be enough to overcome 3 days of mediocre sales).

I wouldn't be so sure about that. What's My Name?, for example, went to #1 8 weeks (or 2 months) after its music video was released. And in the US it got to #1 before the music video was released. And everywhere else in the world the song flopped. :lol:

Apparently it is. I remember seeing the album tracks on there earlier. But someone was saying all the songs on it are album only now and she's releasing another version of the album later.
