I still don't think she will beat Maroon 5, but there is something about having it as an iconic #2...

Rihanna is going to have a very tough time shifting the 85-90-odd thousand she'll need to shift M5 in three days of sales. M5 are still safe for #1 I think.

Is this Wednesday midnight release actually confirmed?

Maroon 5 will be extremely hard to beat, they're almost certainly heading into their best sales week to date I reckon. Unless the sales of every single other song have plummetted.

Why is it expected that this will be their best sales week?

I know they increased slightly last week, but I put that down to the SCD/X-Factor boost, which has already worn off.

Is this just the iTunes no.1 effect I have heard about, whereby a track which hits that position for any length of time can expect futher boosts in sales simply by being in that most prominent of positions?

The SCD/XF boost hasn't worn off much. MLJ still has an enormous lead, not that much smaller than it was at the peak of its boost (#2 is at 60.3%, up from 52.x% at MLJ's peak). The #1 effect is helping it as well of course.

If it had a full week and/or Maroon 5 didn't have a massive boost at the start of the week then she'd have a shot of #1.

You're supposed to be a fan of MLJ and yet you have less faith in it than me, the most adamant hater of it on BuzzJack

 I guess I just think it's too good to be true. I mean no.1s like MLJ don't really happen anymore, taking almost two months to get there and selling nearly 500k before hand. I won't believe it'll be a definite no.1 until Reggie officially announces it and even then, given it's Radio 1 and Reggie, they probably won't acknowledge it

Point taken but I would have expected the Goo Goos & Sak to have declined quicker than M5 anyway, so I'm not sure you can really tell what is a Strictly Come X-Factor boost for one track anf the more rapid decline of sales of it's two major competitors.

Oh, and congratulations for replying in that 30 seconds or so before I had time to correct my typos, most impressive :)

I hope that we found love never reaches number one to be honest, I like rihanna and calvin's music but I just don't like the song no matter how much I hear it :/
I'm having a vision of the x factor finalists doing a hideous version of Moves Like Jagger as a group performance on this years live shows at some point which will inevitably give it another boost.
Born This Way sold around 60,000 in its first week (and it was released on Friday afternoon), surely Rihanna can match/better this and thus beat MLJ's sales which will probably end up being around 60,000 this week also. In other words Rihanna should secure #1 :(

Hey, it happens to me all the time, I'm usually kind enough to correct people's errors for them though.

By the way, a good indication of how fast a #1 is declining is to look at the #100 - #100 is currently (or at least at the last LPB update which hasn't changed since I posted the bars of GGD/Sak) 2.8%, we'll see how much that increases by the time LPB next updates.

Any one else having flashbacks to 2007? Makes Me Wonder by Maroon 5 was midweek #1 but Rihanna's late release of Umbrella proved too much for them and had overtaken by Sunday.

Maybe I've got a case of too good to be true as well, although in my case it'd be too good to be true that Maroon 5 are denied the #1 by a sixth different song in a row.

But I really cannot see past Maroon 5 being #1 this week no matter what arguments people throw.

Thank god, that was a truly atrocious song. I like a lot more of their singles than I realise when I think about it though, I love the current one and 'Harder To Breathe' is hugely underrated.

Hmmm, this makes this weeks chart that bit more interesting!

I SO want MLJ at #1, but 6 weeks at #2 would be ace as well!

I suppose it won't be so bad if MLJ doesn't make it. I never thought it'd chart originally let alone be this successful. I'd just like Maroon 5 to get a no.1 and for Christina to get a 5th. At least it'll be remembered as another LTWYL if it doesn't make it.
Wait, is We Found Love getting released this week now!?

Yup. Rihanna is trying to recreate 'Umbrella' Either that or she's scared of breaking her 1-#1-per-year streak.

The fake version is now up to #21. I wonder how high it'll get? It has two more days before the real version comes out, it could get close to the top 10 and might seal a top 40 entrance this week anyway. Apart from 'When Love Takes Over' which did the same thing have there been any other songs where two different versions entered the top 40 for the first time on the same week?

Difference is, "Born This Way" was THE anticipated release of the year and it was released onto iTunes before anyone had the chance to release any fake copies to blot its sales. In film terms, it's a bit like "The Phantom Menace" whereas "We Found Love" is like a Pirates of the Caribbean film. If that makes any sense

Yes this Wednesday apparently. Its going to be a very interesting week. I mean MLJ has had a big head start and while I have no doubt Rihanna will make #1 on itunes during late Wednesday/Thursday it will surely need to do double of MLJ for the rest of the week to even stand a chance? Then MLJ will also have some sort of weekend effect so it could be quite close I think!

Will be interesting to see how far ahead Maroon 5 will be tomorrow in the mids, just noticed its also #1 and #2 on Amazon (not that prob means alot)

But she's already had a no.1 this year.

Can't we just split it and have If I Never See Your Face Again at the top? I suppose that would be unfair on Calvin and Christina.

I really think everyone is massively overestimating Rihanna, I don't think it'll even be close. I don't even think Rihanna has #2 in the bag, I can see her entering at 3 or even 4 this week. We'll see very soon I guess though!

I know, so she's deliberately moving its release to a time which makes #1 practically impossible to achieve. :P
