I think there have been a fair few since 1996.

Two that spring to mind are Alizée's "Moi Lolita" in 2002 and Daddy Yankee's "Gasolina" in 2005.

Soulful, R&B-influenced pop vocalist Pixie Lott was born Victoria Louise Lott on January 12, 1991, in Kent, England. Nicknamed Pixie by her mother, Lott first began singing in church. Later, she attended an arts school and appeared in several West End musical productions. A demo she recorded eventually caught the ear of producer L.A. Reid, who signed her to Island Def Jam Records when she was 15 years old. However, songs posted to her MySpace page began drawing more industry attention, and a bidding war ensued. Lott ultimately signed to Mercury in the U.K. and Interscope in the United States. Lott's debut album, TURN IT UP, was scheduled for release in 2009. - HMV

Well done Delilah, great chart run - 8 weeks top 40 and it was exactly played flat out either - i think radio 1/6 music were her biggest supporters and it did relatively well with video play.
Cheryl's follow-up was The Flood. It was a ballad, and wasn't held back

Unlike Take That...

All About Tonight. :puke:

I LOVE What Do You Take Me For though. Can't get over how catchy it is. I've had it stuck in my head for weeks now. All About Tonight, I just get bored. :(

If 'Fly' counts as a big hit when 'Moment 4 Life' and maybe even 'Girls Fall Like Dominoes' do as well. I wouldn't really say any of them are. :P

Check It Out was a bigger hit than Fly, Moment 4 Life and Girls Fall Like Dominoes, probably Nicki's second biggest hit after Super Bass from Pink Friday.

The Ketchup Song in 2002 was partly Spanish.

Cheryl's follow-up was The Flood. It was a ballad, and wasn't held back, so it obviously missed the top 10. I remember everybody celebrating when she missed the top 10, then a few weeks the very same people were complaining about us having a top 10 with all US artists (then a few months the very same people were complaining AGAIN about too many British artists getting #1 week after week :drama:)).

Oh yeah that right, although i would argue that if it was good enough it would have climbed higher up the chart. Was there a third single?

What about that song by three guys and the video was them dancing on an airplane?

"bres na bres na yooma yooma yay, yooma yoomay yay, numa numa numa yay, keep-wid-ow-she....."?

Wonder how Delilah's second single will do - 'Time' was fantastic, 'Go' was chilling - all depends whether she samples again/collaborates. Her song 'Breathe' got good reception before 'Go', but it was included on the 'Go - EP'; so releasing it as a single is defeated.

39 & 40 were both performed by Little Mix (Rhytmix) - quite interesting. Are they that popular? Or is merely a case of in performing current songs, they are pushing them back into the T40.

Promise This was released on October 24th, which means it would've charted on October 30th, chart week ending November 6th, so it is one week out, no? Today's chart ends November 12th with release on October 30th?

The Ketchup Song in 2002 was partly Spanish.

Actually the original Ketchup song was only Spanish like Danza Kuduro's original is Portuguese in full, but for both they made an English version.

Moment for Life is my favourite from Nicki Minaj, wonderful stuff - mainly because of Drake!

My only complaint about the British no.1s was that they were mostly crap songs.

Oh yeah that right, although i would argue that if it was good enough it would have climbed higher up the chart. Was there a third single?

Yeah. I don't think the song was that good to be fair, which is probably a large part of the reason it didn't go top 10.

I don't think Cheryl released a 3rd single. I listened to her album though, and there were a few quite catchy songs. I think she could've had another top 20 hit if she released one of the stronger songs.

This is week 45 of 2011 on my spreadsheet, week 45 of 2010 (i.e. 52 weeks ago) was the week then Rihanna overtook Cheryl Cole, so I would personally agree the retros are a week out.
