Any guitar bands left in the running for #1? Would love to see the media tide turn back towards something less pop.

Michael Kiwanuka is hardly 'pop'.

I don't want Michael Kiwanawakukafifi to win. His single is terrible, I haven't heard the others, but surely they HAVE to be better than him? :( This'll be Lana Del Rey & Emeli Sandé's year anywho, so I'm slapping irrelevance on this poll this year! :D

This Michael guy, who I've never heard before the list came out, is terrible. 'Home Again' is so f***ing boring. 'Tell Me a Tale' is okay but the rest is just... no thanks.

Constant GOD mentions make me quite SCARED as well. 2012. Bible pusher TREND in UK charts *.*

Noticed '212' up to #36 on iTunes earlier this morning which is ace. :D Is there a radio edit for '212'? Radio 1 otherwise won't play the track this Sunday if it sells enough to make the top 40.

I'm sure there probably would be one (it would be silly not to make radio edits for your songs if you were hoping to be a mainstream artist), but even if there wasn't, Radio 1, and most other major radio stations, are able to make radio edits themselves. I have a program on my computer called Audacity, which can mute or distort words in songs very easily, so I assume Radio 1 would have something that can do that. Remember that famous edit of S&M which they made?

Michael Kiwunaka is OK, nothing special. He's no better than Aloe Blacc imo... SOOOO happy for Frank Ocean though  I was hoping he'd appear top 5 and thought he didn't have a chance as he wasn't 4th or 5th, and didn't think he'd be top 3! AAH.

If it were up to me, out of who's left I'd have either StooShe or Lianne La Havas. But it'll be the biggest shock like ever if Michael missed it.

Have you read the lyrics to '212'? If they removed all daytime offendable words, they would practically end up playing the instrumental.

The top 5 last year was all wrong anyway:

05 Clare Maguire - Album #6, Singles @ #23, #76 and #91

04 Jamie Woon - Album #15, Singles @ #67 and #76

03 The Vaccines - Album #4, Singles @ #32, #53, #84, #157 and #164

02 James Blake - Album #9, Singles @ #38 and #136

01 Jessie J - Album #2, Singles @ #1, #2, #8, #9, #16, #34 and #35

Of those 5, I'd only count Jessie J and The Vaccines as successful - James Blake was never going to be commercially successful, he was given the positioning based on hype. Besides Jessie and The Vaccines, only Nero and Wretch 32 had #1 albums and only Jessie, Nero and Wretch 32 had #1s.

For this reason alone, I think the Sound of 2012 top 5 will be all based on hype (obviously to an extent linked with talent) and Michael Kiwanuka and Dot Rotten have the biggest hype of the remaining artists - although StooShe are building up a fanbase already.

I think all of the top 4 have been successful. Yes, James Blake and to some extent Jamie Woon were never going to have #1s, but success isn't defined by chart positions! Having said that, I was very pleased when Limit To Your Love reached #38, one of the most interesting top 40 hits of the year.

Gospel Choir Wives - 'Hold on to Jesus' for Xmas number one :w00t:
Oh well, hopefully he'll prove me wrong with his future output but on the basis of what I've heard I'm just stuck wondering how on earth he's won ahead of Frank Ocean and Azealia Banks...

BBC 6Music played the edited version of "212" on Wednesday morning, it had half the words missing though. :P

Michael Kiwanuka won :D

:yahoo: Hopefully Home Again will go top 40 now!!

Has Lianne pulled a Maguire? I was annoyed last year, less annoyed but still miffed this year.
I have to say I'm really surprised Lianne wasn't top 5. Don't particularly like her but thought she'd be in the top 5 because as a soulful singer songwriter who performs her own music, she's the closest thing to the biggest star of 2011.
Good result I hope he does well this year he has alot of potential.
I've decided I don't like Michael Kiwanuka :( He's so boring, and I think the real success story from this year will be Azealia Banks. Frank Ocean (I haven't heard any of his songs yet) could possibly get a few hits and Skrillex could be big too.

Next to Michael she's had the most attention of all the field, she's appeared with Jools Holland where Bon Iver saw her and personally asked her to tour with him and she's getting a push with Michael and Lana Del Rey from MTVs equivalent sound of 2012.

Maybe they thought she was too close to Corinne Bailey Rae and purposefully didn't go for the solo female? I hope she gets a lot of success and good luck to the other finalists.

My initial reaction to Michael Kiwanuka winning the BBC Sound of 2012 poll is that they just didn't want to give the honour to a solo female artist...again (pretty much agree with Paramore's post above). Shame as I still have high hopes for Azealia Banks than I think I will ever have for Kiwanuka.

Give me James Vincent McMorrow anytime. He's been doing "Kiwanuka" style music longer with much more impact.
