Great to see the Gay Gordon version of Auld Lang Syne being the highest :w00t:  Would love to see this T40, it probably won't as it drops real fast after new year's day is over  People should buy Mariah Carey's version too :(

Not displeased to see Gotye released, seeing as the universal consensus is that it takes a long time to grow, I'd find it disconcerting to see it smash straight to #1, let it climb :P This is on the assumption that radio/TV actually support it and that it gets a chance to of course!

New Releases

26 - JLS "Do You Feel What I Feel" (also 86) (what a flop for them)

78 - Michael Kiwanuka "Home Again" (still haven't heard this song, but it'll go top 20)

150 - Gotye feat. Kimbra "Somebody That I Used To Know" (top 20 this week?)

515 - Taio Cruz "Troublemaker" (I don't think this will be #1 - would like to see it top 5)

Gotye feat. Kimbra Somebody That I Used To Know deserved to be number 1... but it won't.

This is hardly new - it's been floating round the charts for 6 weeks!

10. Moves Like Jagger (Studio Recording from the Voice Performance) - Maroon 5 <_< Almost certainly top 10 again this week then, I just really bloody hope it's stayed out of today's top 10.

Good start (albeit on pre-orders) for the gorgeous Michael Kiwanuka song, really hope it goes top 10

Someone asked on the last page who is Gay Gordon. I don't know for certain but it probably has something to do with this novelty that hit the charts at Christmas 1986:

By the way the name comes a Scottish regiment of the army the Gay Gordons, which is also a card game and a country dance.

Gotye feat. Kimbra Somebody That I Used To Know deserved to be number 1... but it won't.

Agreed but it *IS* a grower and I can imagine it having a longish Jar Of Hearts type chart run.

It's been in the chart on cherry picks from the album but it's officially released this week - this week is what counts for them and if they miss top 20 that won't be good at all for them (and I'll celebrate :yahoo:)

There's nothing to stop it from continuing to climb after this week though? :P

At this point I'm just glad to see it in the top 40 because it was looking for a while like it wouldn't even manage that. Disappointing to see it not heading for the top 10 but it might go top 20.

I agree, its actually already doing much better than I thought it would first week. I guess we will know more in the next couple of weeks if Radio 1 playlist it (surely they will?) and with that, then hopefully video play will follow. With not alot out over the next few weeks I'd expect it to peak late January/early February but like you said, thats on the assumption that it does get support. Its too good to flop :(

The album's scheduled for mid-February still so the record company are obviously not expecting it to gain proper traction for another month despite releasing it now, it's taken ages to take off in every country it's been released in as far as I know.

76 Michael Kiwanuka/ Home Again

132 Gotye ft Kimbra/ Somebody That I Used To Know

191 Taio Cruz/ Troublemaker

621 Skepta/ Hold On

Happy New Year to you all

Oh right, I was only on iTunes a few minutes ago and failed to realise Gotye was in the top 200. Pleasing to see, hope this continues climbing all week. Would be ace if it makes the top 10 officially next Sunday. That will generate more awareness of the song so who knows it might yet climb to #1 in a week or two. :D

It could be for the best. 'Party Rock Anthem' and 'Give Me Everything' slowly worked their way to #1 and selling over 900k so far. Whilst this is a different type of song altogether, the principle is the same. Work its way to no. 1 building up its sales until it hits its sales peak at no. 1 (well, 90k say?) and stays comfortably at the top for a couple of weeks.

JLS #21 and #70, so comfortable top 20 this week.

Just downloaded Gotye, I do hope it does a "Price Tag" and starts to pick up some steam.

Gotye released now? Ooh I'm buying! Not sure if it's a good or bad thing that it's been released earlier, but Rich is correct that it did take ages to climb, for example in Australia it was released in early July but didn't get number 1 until August, in fact it didn't even debut in the top 50 until late July. It took 3 weeks to reach number 1 in New Zealand as well, and I was noticing it in a few European iTunes charts for a while before was high on any of them!

I haven't wanted a song to do so well so badly for ages :(

Happy New Year to you all

Currently have 12 year old JLS fans making me feel stupid on twitter, telling me that only the single version counts towards their chart position. Great start to the year

Honestly thought Taio would be onto a better start than that! Especially since its be held back for (what seems like) months now! It may be to soon to judge, but It really seems like those urban-dance acts that were really popular in 2009 (Taio, Tinchy, Chipmunk etc) are genuinely struggling now. Tinchy drops like a bomb EVERYTIME now, and even struggled to get up high in the first place. :(

21. Do You Feel What I Feel? - JLS [also #63]

75. Home Again - Michael Kiwanuka

128. Somebody That I Used to Know (feat. Kimbra) - Gotye

138. Troublemaker - Taio Cruz

169. Do It Our Way (Play) - Alesha Dixon

386. Pieces of My Heart - JLS

416. Hold On (Original Mix) - Skepta [also #641]

946. Pelican - The Maccabees

No sign of Various Cruelties anywhere :(

Lol really? How silly they are.

Oh yeah, Taio has been held back ages! Iirc it was released in like September in the US, I know airplay etc. probably didnt start here then but it's not a great start for a held back song... Happy it's flopping so far though!
