Incidentally, that new Bruce Springsteen single from last week, that we thought would fall foul of the 'Coldplay' rule, was actually allowed to chart (#111).

I don't recall anyone mentioning that - I didn't realise it was a pre-order track, just assumed it was released too late in the week to go top 100. Anyway, hopefully that means the OCC have silently phased out that ridiculous rule with the new year :P

Titanium #1 :w00t: Really, really hope this gets to #1 officially next week. Currently has a 4% lead over Cover Drive, should expand a bit now.

It'd be weird if it does go to #1 and 'Turn Me On' goes to #1 in the USA because then in both countries it's taken Guetta 4 singles to get a #1 off Nothing But The Beat!

Woo Guetta and Sia! Why do I get the feeling that Titanium will just end up as a classic #2 and Somebody That I Used To Know a classic top five hit, with neither ever going to #1. Annoys me because the main reason that they probably won't get there is because of held back releases with a ton of pent up demand, hardly a level playing field is it :(

At least in the early 00s EVERYTHING was held back so had equal chance to try for the #1 if the demand was there but now some are held back and some aren't and songs that would otherwise probably be #1's 'spend' 200k's worth of sales on their way up the charts, sell 60k in their peak week and get beaten by some flash in the pan non-entity which disappears again a month later...

Ugh 'Alone Again' is absolutely atrocious. How can people who have heard the original like this version? It is so flat and lifeless. Hope it doesn't trouble the top 10/20.

Heart's version on the other hand...

In the US they do almost everything on air, on sale, and it's exactly the same. They have LOTS of massive hits only peaking at #2 or #3. Infact, I think it's worse there than in the UK sometimes with regards to massive hits not getting #1.

I think its her voice which annoys me the most, it just sounds really nasally on the chorus and not really suited to a song like 'Alone'

Yay for 'Titanium' at #1 - really hope it can get it officially next week. Hoped it'd reach #1 the first time I heard it.

I don't like either version, but Alyssa's is far, far worse. (Apparently Celine Dion covered it as well though - I dread to think what that would sound like :puke:)

But that's for a different reason - if a song doesn't get massive support from the radio in the USA, it's pretty much buggered in terms of getting to #1 on the Hot 100 unless it absolutely crushes everything else on sales, which is almost impossible unless you're a huge artist like Britney or Gaga because you need the airplay to sell, but to become a huge artist you need to have huge sales, which require huge airplay... it's like a catch-22 situation, if I've applied that phrase correctly :P

Airplay doesn't affect the UK charts as much because, while it's still hard to sell in big quantities in the UK without big airplay, a song only needs to outsell everything else by 1 copy and it gets the #1, it doesn't need to have airplay as well.

 15. Get Out My Head - Redlight :D STILL climbing!

 17. Troublemaker - Taio Cruz

Looks like this is heading for a 'How We Roll' style chart run as I expected :P

 31. Drunk - Ed Sheeran

 96. Drunk - Ed Sheeran

Didn't realise that second version was so high! Hope it can go top 30 officially this week.

'212' back in the top 100 at #98 - can this please blow up soon :(

Heart's version of Alone is probably my favourite 80s song - it's definitely up there anyway - but I do really like Alyssa's version as well! I'd prefer The Game or XO to be a breakout hit for her but I'm happy she's looking likely to do well with AA.

Seeing as it's being released on All Around The World, I wouldn't bank on her ever having another hit though

Combined Kworb update

[02] 01. David Guetta (feat. Sia) - Titanium - 1.0000

[01] 02. Cover Drive - Twilight - 0.9293

[04] 03. Jessie J - Domino - 0.8052

[03] 04. Flo Rida (feat. Sia) - Wild Ones - 0.7574

[05] 05. Gotye (feat. Kimbra) - Somebody That I Used to Know - 0.6128

[06] 06. Rizzle Kicks - Mama Do the Hump - 0.5101

[07] 07. Pitbull (feat. Chris Brown) - International Love - 0.4687 [2 versions]

[08] 08. Kelly Clarkson - What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger) - 0.4499

[09] 09. Swedish House Mafia vs. Knife Party - Antidote - 0.4375 [3 versions]

[11] 10. Labrinth (feat. Tinie Tempah) - Earthquake - 0.3848

[10] 11. Flo Rida - Good Feeling - 0.3650

[11] 12. Olly Murs - Dance with Me Tonight - 0.3554 [2 versions]

[13] 13. Lloyd (feat. André 3000 and Lil Wayne) - Dedication to My Ex - 0.3494 [2 versions]

[14] 14. Lana del Rey - Born to Die - 0.3104

[**] 15. Redlight - Get Out My Head - 0.2971 [2 versions]

It'd be bloody typical if Lana made top 10 on iTunes over the weekend only for the single version to plummet straight back out again when the album's added on Monday morning.

On Kworb there's a sea of green. Of the ones that come up straight from me loading (the top 28) only Flo Rida x2, SHM, Coldplay, Rihanna (YDO), Pitbull's second version and Drake are white and only Cover Drive, Taio, Ed Sheeran and M83 are light red - the other 17 are all gaining. Gotye's slowly hauling "Wild Ones" in to go to #4.

I don't like either version, but Alyssa's is far, far worse. (Apparently Celine Dion covered it as well though - I dread to think what that would sound like :puke:)

Even songs with massive airplay AND sales miss #1 though...a lot.

For example, the year-end top 10 in the US of 2010:

1. Tik Tok - #1

2. Need You Now - #2

3. Hey, Soul Sister - #3

4. California Gurls - #1

5. OMG - #1

6. Airplanes - #2

7. Love the Way You Lie - #1

8. Bad Romance - #2

9. Dynamite - #2

10. Break Your Heart - #1

Half of the biggest hits of 2010 in the US missed #1. In contrast to that, 9 of the 10 biggest hits of 2010 got to #1 in the UK.

And there's other things aswell, like here everybody whines that the 2nd best-selling song of the decade (Moves Like Jagger) missed #1, but the same happened in the US with Dynamite. And everybody complains about Love the Way You Lie being the best-selling song of the year and only peaking at #2, but that happens more often in the US than in the UK. It's the other extreme there, where every song spends 8 weeks at #1, so they only get like 15 songs getting to #1 every year, meaning lots of big hits miss out. And if you look at their year-end top 100s, in the lower half it's packed with songs that peaked at #22 or something.

Yeah but i think the music industry should fix it so that all songs are released OA/OS so that this is less likely to happen like they tried to do last year. Its worse when a song hits the top spot and spends 5 weeks top 40 because it was held back which we had loads of times last year. At least if a song is released OA/OS if its a decent song it will always climb high enough and peak top 10 and be remembered weather it gets to no1 or not. Its silly british record labels who hold back their pop artists who have to get to no1 to be a success, and this ends up being at the expense of the quality of the music!

ALSO Ede Sheeran is performing Drunk on the Grahma Norton show tonight which should help it go top 20 next week!!

98. I'm Kissing You (Love Theme from "Romeo And Juliet") [Radio Edit] - Des'ree

:kink:

I know this was a while ago, but is there any reason that that it/was in the top 100? Was the film shown or is it 59p? :P

I'm not necessarily for or against on air, on sale, but seeing what happens in the other countries where they do it, it's not really like that. Lots of songs you don't like, that have no melody, etc. will still be hits, and we still won't be seeing rock or alternative songs in the top 10 very often. It'll still be dominated by Lady Gaga, Rihanna, etc. As shown in other countries charts, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, etc. do fantastically with on air, on sale.

It's 59 pence :)

Hoping 'Turn Me On' by Guetta can do something! The video trailer looks so good!

I just listened to Somebody That I Used To Know and God, it's terrible. His voice annoys me so.

Happy for Skrillex on the rise again.

Thanks! A bit of a bizarre song to enter then - I was hoping the film had been played on TV, as it's fantastic

I love 'Kissing You' by Des'ree.

Did this ever actually officially chart in the top 100? It's such a brilliant track. I always wanted Alexandra Burke to do a cover of it on The X Factor.
