When a conversation about an artist/genre turns into a politics discussion.... only in the iTunes thread :P

 its great...imo music, politics, culture and social issues all intertwine.it was no accident that the sex pistols became popular in 1976!

Sean Paul #2 and JLS still #6? :o THIS SHIT CRAY. In a good way.
Who'd have thought that MIA would have a better chart run (if not peak) on her comeback single than Madonna? I don't really 'get' Bad Girls though, to me it just sounds repetitive.

All her songs are very repetitive. 'Paper Planes' consists of every line in each verse being repeated twice, 'XXXO' is pretty repetitive with the chorus and 'Born Free' is definitely repetitive.

Part of me would love for Jason Mraz to get a top 10 hit but I just know that, as soon as it hits the top 10, it will be played to death all around the country - just like 'Someone Like You', 'The A Team' and 'Jar of Hearts'.

Another long-running #11 would be cool though.

I don't know why people get bothered about songs/albums only making #1 for one week. A #1 is awarded because you've sold the most in that week. I find it much more interesting when there's proper battles for #1 and lots of different types of songs are reaching the top spot. Long running #1's are pretty boring, imo.

I've no problem with tracks making no.1 for just a week per se, it's just these one-week no 1s tend to be the highly front loaded tracks that crash in at no.1 and then plummet, sell 200-250k overall and come nowhere near the year end top 40. They are soon relitively forgotten and make something of a mockery of the no.1 slot.

I don't see how they're making a mockery of the No. 1 slot. All a number one signifies is that it was the best seller in one particular week - nothing more nothing less.

I like long runners as much as the next person, but I'm not precious about Number Ones.

Yeah, as long as the songs i like/deem worthy mass up decent sales that's all that matters to me. It is nice to garner up a collection of #1s (see Katy Perry in the US!), but as long as they sell well for more than 1 week, i don't really care.

Based on the latest Kworb update, i don't think Sean Paul will get to #1 on iTunes, but it should continue to sell well for this week.

Also Labyrinth should overtake Gotye soon, and i don't think JLS will ever get top 5 on iTunes with Proud, and could be overtaken by David Guetta soon.

Could Sean Paul go to number one on iTunes? He's Gained 2% On Katy Perry since 1hour ago

01. Katy Perry - Part Of Me 100%

02. Sean Paul - She Dosen't Mind 84.5%

LOL

05. Nicki Minaj - Starships 56.3%

06. Jls - Proud 42.6%

07. David Guetta & Sia - Titanium 40.7%

Edit: Jls are already decreasing and it's only monday!

How strange the charts are looking, the X-factor acts are having their butts kicked these days. Katy releases her video this week so she will hold onto No 1. I assume Nicky will get a big boost once her video is out. JLS may end up at 6 in the Official chart this week.
It would be a victory for the underdog if Sean Paul got to number 1 on itunes, so I would prefer him to be there instead of sexy Katy Perry.

JLS have really went downhill success wise this last year. 'She Makes Me Wanna' sold well but both 'Take A Chance On Me' and 'Do You Feel What I Feel? underperformed majorly, plus the album has only done "alright". One Direction's last two singles were also big let downs, and the album hasn't met expectations (although they're saved by Europe and the US), Rebecca's album hasn't done spectacularly well and the last single missed the top 100, Cher's singles haven't really had decent sales at all considering their positions and her album hasn't even sold 200K, Leona seems to have dissapeared (again) and Marcus's future is relying on the performance of the album and single #2. I'm not even sure Little Mix will end up being that big either. Matt's album is selling consistantly but there's no buzz around him at all and the singles bombed. Diana Vickers has also dissapeared (and even then her success was average).

It seems like Olly Murs is the only X-Factor success recently. Two Gold singles, two Silver singles, two double platinum albums, successful tour, Xtra Factor, European success. :o Jedward are still doing well in Ireland and in the TV buisness, and Alexandra looks like she's doing well so far (although i'm not sure Elephant is going to stick around for long).

Have I missed any XF acts?

Nice summary

I like climbers and a degree of stability at the top of the charts, with tracks that sell a decent amount. For me, that makes for a more 'deserving' no.1, something that has genuine popularity and not just been held back for weeks and has massive pent up demand for just one week, before rapidly disappearing. The charts are more interesting as a result.

But everybody is different as regards how they think the charts should look, mine is just an opinion of course and you know what they say about opinions :)

Yes you have missed the biggest X-factor act Joe Mcelderry, he has had 3 hit albums, 3 hit singles and two record labels.

Ruth Lorenzo's debut single went top 10 on Spanish iTunes last summer. :P

You missed out Mary Byrne - #28 album last week (and shockingly CLIMBING to its peak) :kink:
