I'm glad 'Turn Me On' is sticking around. I know it is ultra generic, but it is so anthemic!! That's how you do a club song well!

Sean Paul  #7.

New Releases

6. Part of Me - Katy Perry

7. She Doesn't Mind - Sean Paul

12. Proud - JLS

13. Last Time - Labrinth

51. The Swarm - You Me At Six

82. Go In, Go Hard - Angel

Last Time > Proud > Part Of Me

I'm a big Katy fan (loved the last six singles) but POM is dreadful. It doesn't fit with the rest of the singles at all and just sounds empty.

It's catchy, but people could just listen to the original (Sexy Chick) and David Guetta could try making different-sounding songs, like Titanium and I Just Wanna F.

I just like how it's a FU to Russell Brand

But it isn't. It's been on the internet for well over a year.

'The Swarm' to be a top 40 hit for YM@6 then? :o

I wouldn't really say 'Titanium' is that different. It can become a bit tedious though but I guess you shouldn't try to fix something that isn't broken. There's something about 'Titanium', 'Turn Me On' and 'Without You' that is infectious.

But it Kinda is, she changed the lyrics aswell.

How is " You Can Keep The Diamond Ring" Not directed at him, infact I doubt she would have even released the song had she not split up with him.

How funny that Jls are knocking Alexandra out of the top 10 in a matter of minutes.

I guess. I Just Wanna F is certainly different though, but then I found out David Guetta didn't even produce most of it. :drama:

It's a shite FU though. Something like 'Best Thing I Never Had', despite finding the song dull at times, is a good FU. POM just sounds weak and uninspired. I can understand why it wasn't included on the original Teenage Dream. Such an undeserved #1 if it gets there - but it's better than a JLS or a Labrinth number one. But I'd rather 'E.T.', 'Teenage Dream', 'The One That Got Away' or 'Firework' got there instead. It's actually strange how the weakest single from the album imo is the only one that got to #1.

I wouldn't say California Gurls was the weakest single from the album. It was a massive success and actually made Teenage Dream massive.

I think he just means weakest in his opinion, not weakest success wise.

Personally I'd go:

E.T. > Firework >>>> The One That Got Away >> Last Friday Night (TGIF) > Teenage Dream >>>>>>> California Gurls > Part Of Me

I actually love them all, POM is still a 9/10 (really growing on me now!) :o

Oh My GOD!!! I didn't realise 'Get Busy' was at #74. :o Ultimate Club Anthem!!!

Yeah, that song used to be so massive. I think it's 59p.

It's a brilliant song, and I think his new song is poor in comparison. Got 2 Luv U was amazing though. I still listen to that loads.

E.T. was the best Katy Perry song from this album campaign. I just love that song.

So...

Since when has the musical quality of a song reflected it's chart position and sales?

I would say:

California Gurls - 6.5/10 (at a push)

Teenage Dream - 8.5/10

Firework - 8.5/10

E.T. - 8.5/10

Last Friday Night - 7/10

The One That Got Away - 7.5/10

Part of Me - 4.5/10

'California Gurls' is far better in the summer but, in general, it's a pretty weak song. All of the other singles (bar POM) had something distinctive about them whereas CG didn't.

I don't think Last Friday Night had anything distinctive about it either (except for the bridge I suppose). And the beat I think was very similar to Tik Tok.

I like them all to some extent, but 'California Gurls' and 'Part Of Me' both sound like unfinished demos to me and I just can't help but feel, like SOSC says "empty" after listening to them. I'm still annoyed TOTGA seems to be the only non top 10 UK hit from the album/era, but I think it's chart run more than makes up for it. It's definitely the greatest thing she's ever recorded for me  Then you have the acoustic version

EDIT: Almost forgot 'E.T.' (That's in her top 5 ever for me! LOL - Shows just how much I love TOTGA)

Not even the saxophone solo?
