For me, the biggest shock is Sean Paul. Would never have thought 'She Doesn't Mind' would be ahead of both JLS and Labrinth. Surely it's just a matter of time before both overtake Sean Paul.

Katy Perry has a good chance at #1. To think the record company were originally going to release 'Part Of Me' next week.

California Gurls isn't 'weak', it's just atrocious. I never understood the love for it.

Teenage Dream era rate:

E.T. (10/10) >>>>>>>>>>>> Firework (8.5/10) >> Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) [8/10] >>> Part Of Me (7.5/10) > Teenage Dream (7.5/10) > The One That Got Away (7/10) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> California Gurls (-1/10)

Not even the saxophone solo?

That's what I was thinking.

'Teenage Dream' has that belting passionate vocal on the chorus.

'Firework' has the Stargate production which makes the chorus epic.

'E.T.' has the hip-hop element with the inventive lyrics.

'Last Friday Night' has the saxophone solo.

'The One That Got Away' is the only down-beat song and the acoustic version is just

'California Gurls' is a tried-and-tested, formulaic Dr Luke track and 'Part of Me' is just blah.

If "No One Does It Better" picks up (or is its physical released this week?) You Me At Six could have two singles enter the top 100 this week! :o shame that this era the one that's done the worst is "Bite My Tongue" when it's easily my favourite.
What is/was the most exciting chart battles that you guys can remember?

Sats vs Flo Rida 2009

Sats vs Flo Rida 2010

Sats vs Pixie vs Leona 2011

What is/was the most exciting chart battles that you guys can remember?

The one that springs to my mind instantly is from October 2007 - Leona Lewis, Take That, Amy Winehouse/Mark Ronson, Britney Spears and McFly.

And then a year later in November 2008 - "diva day" with Beyonce, Britney Spears, Leona Lewis, Christina Aguilera and underdog Alesha Dixon. The X Factor Finalists beat all of them in the end though. Although Beyonce did eventually climb to #1 a few weeks later.

Sean Paul doing well is not surprising, 'She Doesn't Mind' has been doing really well in Europe, especially Germany - him, Olly Murs and Taio Cruz are performing a mashup together at the ECHO Awards in Berlin next Thursday. I think I prefer his older stuff though!

Truestepers infront all week, then Spiller takes it on Sunday :D

Joe/Rage.

In the iTunes era. My favourites were Sats vs. Flo-Rida ('Just Can't Get Enough' vs. 'Right Round') and then the personal favourite Black Eyed Peas vs. Leona Lewis ('Meet Me Halfway' vs. 'Happy'). Kelly Clarkson vs. Taylor Swift was exciting too!
Joe McElderry and Rage Against the Machine I guess. It's the only time I've ever bought a song because it's been in a race for number one anway!

5. Part of Me - Katy Perry

7. She Doesn't Mind - Sean Paul

8. Proud - JLS

11. Last Time - Labrinth

40. The Swarm - You Me At Six

76. Go In, Go Hard - Angel

SHM down to #12 already (Alexandra overtook as well) :( God dammit. I REALLY hope they're top 10 today then because I can't see them climbing in there now...

Anyway, really glad to see Sean Paul doing so well, She Doesn't Mind is far better than Got 2 Luv U so it's great to see it likely to outpeak that.

Oh Kelly vs Taylor was a great one! Both brilliant songs from underdogs. Kelly having never topped the charts or even gone top 3 with a single beforehand and Taylor not being the most UK-friendly artist.

I absolutely detested the 'Happy'/'Meet Me Halfway' battle. So unfair imo. Whenever I think of MMH, I remember it as a #4 hit - not a #1.

I think some of the most epic chart battles I can remember were ones like Geri Halliwell vs. Emma Bunton and Tin Tin Out in 1999 - I preferred 'What I Am' a hell of a lot more but poor old Bunton didn't stand a chance when up against the whole 'Geri and Chris Evans' publicity wagon that conveniently dropped off the face of the earth the week after 'Lift Me Up' was at number 1!

Also for me October 2006 when McFly and Girls Aloud released 'Star Girl' and 'Something Kinda Ooooh' - although to be fair I didn't relish that chart battle particularly cos' I love both bands and both songs and it was horrible seeing some of the Girls Aloud fans on places like Popjustice ganging up on McFly and being bitchy.

As for this week, I've downloaded Labrinth and JLS, so if either of those were number 1 I'd be happy :)

Whats with all the California Girls hate? It was a great summer smash for me.

I agree with you as to "California Gurls". I think that it's one of her worst songs. The rest of them are a million times better than it. I can listen it but it's a dire song for Katy Perry..
