What do you think is the most unlucky song in UK chart history? like in terms of chart positions and how many missed opportunities a song has had of becoming number 1 for example.

Be more specific? In what way unlucky? Do you have your own examples for discussion?

As an artist: SASH!

So many number 2 hits without reaching the top :(

Jordan Sparks' Battlefield could be a contender; I think it went to #11 on like 3 seperate occasions without ever going any higher? :o
Dee-Lite "Groove is in the heart". It sold exactly the same as Steve Miller Band's "The Joker", but lost in the tie-break.
The Saturdays. There, I've said it! (Sorry girls, I love you really...)
Lonestar "Amazed" never cracked the top 20 but hang on for ages in 21-30.
Not really a song, but Miley Cyrus with The Climb, Party in the USA and See You Again all getting to #11! :(
Like the song that missed the most chances to be number 1 for example

Well, we all know that recent example. Come on, make some suggestions so this isn't just spam.

Unlucky to me is something that could have done well but ended up not doing due to circumstances beyond the artist/band's control.

I can't think of specific examples off the top of my head but there have been songs that the radio have refused to play due to titles or themes that are too similar to high profile news items etc.

I think Kylie has spent the most weeks at #2 for a female artist. No suprise, with all the #2's she had at the beginning of her career!

Maroon 5 - moves like jagger would be my main example because it was number 2 for 7 weeks in a row

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci have had 8 top 75 hits and have never once gone top 40, their first two songs went to 41 and 42

I'd call that much more unlucky than a high selling number 2, at least the latter has high sales

Moves Like Jagger and Love The Way You Lie....the latter was the best selling single of the year so all wasn't bad!

Another unlucky one at the lower end......Hot Pantz "I want to give you one for Christmas" - mid 60s in 2004.....about #215 on 2005!

That song is anything but unlucky. It's sold well in excess of a million and has been on the charts for the entire lifetime of a small rodent.

Missing Number One - The Saturdays, Moves Like Jagger & Love The Way You Lie(Despite both songs selling a lot)

Missing Top 10 - Miley Cyrus (The Climb actually had fantastic sales though)

I was just about to say that too!

I doubt Maroon 5 are kicking themselves because of how unlucky the single was!

Marry The Night getting kicked out of the top 10 5 seconds after entering was a bummer :(

And Dance in the Dark was an unlucky song as it was never released! <_<

Battlefield by Jordin Sparks was pretty unlucky, it was #11 for 3 weeks iirc and hung around just outside the top 10 for a good few weeks more, and that song really deserved top 10 imo
