April 23, 201214 yr Author Midweek Charts: XL's White set to earn chart stripes Source: MW Wednesday April 25, 2012 By Paul Williams Jack White is poised to make a perfect start with his solo career with his introductory Blunderbuss heading straight to number one in the UK this coming Sunday. The XL album was outselling its nearest competitor, fellow new release Out Of The Games by Polydor’s Rufus Wainwright, by around 13,500 copies up to the end of business on Tuesday with another XL offering – Adele’s 21 – in third place. White previously topped the artist albums chart as half of the White Stripes with Elephant in 2003 and then with Icky Thump in 2007. Wainwright’s current midweek position of two equals his present highest chart placing in the UK achieved by Release The Stars in 2007 and is a significant improvement on his last album All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu, which debuted and peaked at 21 in 2010. However, the Adele album, which returned to number one for a 23rd week last Sunday, is only a few hundred sales behind and has every chance of overtaking Wainwright’s release. Polydor act Lana Del Rey is holding her position of four achieved last weekend with Born To Die, while Rock band Feeder are heading back to the Top 10 for the first time since 2008 with their new album Generation Freakshow, released on the Big Teeth label, showing up as a new entry at five in the latest midweeks. Just behind it, Cash Money/Island’s Nicki Minaj drops 3-6 as Epic artist Olly Murs is set to climb back into the Top 10 with In Case You Didn’t Know moving 12-7 at this stage of the week. Atlantic artist Jason Mraz slips 2-8 with Love Is A Four Letter Word having narrowly missed out on debuting at number one last weekend, while Virgin artist Emeli Sande drops 6-9 with Our Version Of Events and Jessie J’s Island/Lava debut Who You Are falls 5-9. Outside the Top 10 The Script’s self-titled Phonogenic debut is continuing to benefit from frontman Danny O’Donoghue’s exposure on The Voice as it climbs 21-14 in the current Sales Flashes. Also making good ground is Island artist Alex Clare whose album The Lateness Of the Hour’s sales are up 22% on the week to lift it 36-26. He also looks set to move into the Top 10 of the singles chart with Too Close on midweek sales progressing 16-9. Among the chart entries expected to this weekend’s chart will be the re-appearance of two former number ones. Abba’s final studio album The Visitors, which hit the top in 1981, appears as a new entry at 32, while fellow Polydor-handled T .Rex album Electric Warrior, which was a 1971 chart-topper, is currently back in at 37. Also due to enter the chart this coming Sunday are albums from Atlantic’s Santigold, Decca’s Julian Ovenden, N2’s Nina Nesbitt and The Chieftains through Concord/Decca. There were just 288 sales up to the end of Tuesday separating Calvin Harris’s brand new track and Interscope/Polydor act Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe at the top of the singles market. Harris’s Columbia-issued Let’s Go featuring Ne-Yo is just ahead as the Scottish DJ/artist looks for a second UK number one, but Call Me Maybe could well overtake it and score a fourth week at number one. The Atlantic/Fueled By Ramen-issued We Are Young by fun featuring Janelle Monae holds at three at this point of this week as Parlophone’s Conor Maynard drops to four with Can’t Say No having debuted at two last Sunday. Island/Lava’s Jessie J featuring David Guetta remains at five with Laserlight, as Island’s Gotye featuring Kimbra with Somebody That I Used To Know holds at six, Atlantic act B.o.B’s So Good at seven and Cash Money/Island’s Nicki Minaj with Starships at eight. With Alex Clare in ninth place, Sony’s John Legend single Ordinary People completes the Top 10, dropping 4-10, having moved into the Top 10 last weekend after being covered on The Voice. The BBC One programme is this week having a positive effect on a selection of other oldies featured in the show, led by Stereophonics’ V2/Universal-issued Dakota returning at 18, the Mercury-handled With Or Without You by U2 progressing 114-35, Columbia act Kings Of Leon up 60-37 with Use Somebody, the RCA-issued Beggin’ by Madcon climbing 189-38 and Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris’s 2011 Def Jam/Mercury chart-topper We Found Love lifting 52-41.Other Voice songs set to return to the Top 75 include Maverick/Warner Bros’s Ironic by Alanis Morissette and the Polydor-issued Broken Strings by James Morrison featuring Nelly Furtado. ======================================== Wednesday Update Top 40 Only Source: Radio 1/OCC Top 40 Singles 1 Calvin Harris (288 copies ahead) 2 Carly Rae Jepsen 3 fun./Janelle Monae 4 Conor Maynard 5 Jessie J/David Guetta 6-10 9 Alex Clare 11-20 12 Train 13 Azealia/Lazy J 17 Flo Rida/Sia 18 Stereophonics [Dakota] 21-30 23 Script 27 Olly Murs 30 Drake 31-40 35 U2 [WOWY] 36 The Fray [HTSAL] 37 Kings Of Leon [uS] 38 Madcon [beggin'] http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/update/singles/print http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/c...ns-number-1362/ =================================================== Top 40 Albums 1 Jack White (13.5k ahead) 2 Rufus Wainwright 3 Adele 4 Lana Del Rey 5 Feeder 6-10 7 Olly Murs 11-20 14 Script 18 Santigold 19 Colplay 21-30 21 Script [s&F] 23 Rizzle Kicks 24 Stereophonics 26 Alex Clare 31-40 32 ABBA 36 Julian Ovenden 37 T-Rex 39 The Chieftains http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/update/albums/print http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/j...underbuss-1361/
April 23, 201214 yr Author Midweek Charts update: XL heading for first ever back-to-back chart-toppers Source: MW 11:09 | Friday April 27, 2012 By Paul Williams XL Recordings is on course to replace itself at the top of the UK artist albums chart for the first time ever this weekend with Jack White succeeding Adele. In the week the record company’s CEO Richard Russell received the Strat award at the Music Week Awards for outstanding achievement XL is heading for number one with White’s debut solo set Blunderbuss. The album was more than 20,000 sales ahead of its nearest challenger, fellow XL artist Adele with 21, up to the end of business on Thursday, according to Official Charts Company Data. The Adele album sat at number one last Sunday, its 23rd week at the top. With two days of trading still to go, White’s album has already surpassed the first-week sales of the last albums by his bands The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. However, Blunderbuss has some way to go to matching the first-week tally of the White Stripes’ last album Icky Thump, which opened with 66,249 sales in 2007, according to the Official Charts Company. Behind the two XL albums in third place is Rufus Wainwright’s newly-released Out Of The Game, while another Polydor album, Lana Del Rey’s Born To Die, remains in its position of four achieved on last Sunday’s chart as Cash Money/Island’s Nicki Minaj drops 3-5 with Pink Friday - Roman Reoaded. Interscope/Polydor at Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe has now broken through 400,000 UK sales as it looks like spending a fourth week leading the UK singles chart this coming Sunday. It was around 9,000 sales ahead by the end of Thursday of its nearest challenger, the newly-issued Columbia single Let’s Go by Calvin Harris featuring Ne-Yo as the Atlantic/Fueled By Ramen-issued We Are Young by fun featuring Janelle Monae stayed in third spot. April 24, 201214 yr Does anyone think that "We are Young" will eventually get to No.1? A couple of weeks ago I thought it was a dead cert, now I'm not so sure! :(
April 24, 201214 yr https://twitter.com/#!/screampr New @FeederHQ album 'Generation Freakshow' Number 4 in the Official Chart Album Midweeks!! pic.twitter.com/aAWh7qizThat should brighten Juranamo's day :D ==== https://twitter.com/#!/Paulhitsheet Wonder if @65MikeSmith is cheered up by the news that Calvin Harris is #1 in the midweeks? Well it is called Let's Go!
April 24, 201214 yr Does anyone think that "We are Young" will eventually get to No.1? A couple of weeks ago I thought it was a dead cert, now I'm not so sure! :( I think it still could on a dead week as it's still climbing and not falling just yet. But with BGT and TV etc over the next few weeks, it's going to have a lot of competition (unless it's used on one of those shows - then it could definitely get to #1! :o) Edited April 24, 201214 yr by HausofKubrick
April 24, 201214 yr Good news for Feeder :cheer: and also well done to Jck White at number 1. The former will probably do a Lostprophets and fall to the latter part of the Top 10 though :( . Jack White might take number 1, depends how close he is to number 2. Also pleased for Calvin, I hope he can hold up at Number 1
April 24, 201214 yr Source: OCC According to the latest Official Charts Company sales data, The Voice looks set to dominate this week’s Official Singles Chart with 14 of the tracks performed on this weekend’s shows on course to re-enter the Top 200. Four out of five tracks performed by Sir Tom Jones, Will.I.Am and Danny O’Donoghue’s teams have made an appearance in this morning’s Official Charts sales flash, while only two tracks performed by Jessie J’s team – Rihanna’s We Found Love (performed by Jessica Hammond and Vince Kidd) and Beyonce’s Irreplaceable (performed by Indie and Pixie and Becky Hill) – have made it into the Top 200. Out of all the teams, Danny O’Donoghue's is in the lead with all four of his tracks in the Top 75 – James Morrison’s Broken Strings, Madcon’s Beggin’, U2’s With Or Without You and Stereophonics’ former Number 1 hit, Dakota. Sir Tom Jones is in second place with three tracks in the Top 75 - Kings Of Leon’s Use Somebody, Alicia Keys' No One and Lady Gaga’s Edge Of Glory - while Will.I.Am and Jessie J both have one track each in the Top 75 (Alanis Morissette’s Ironic and Rihanna’s We Found Love, respectively). Out of the judges themselves, Jessie J leads the charge with four of her own tracks in the Top 200 (Domino, Who You Are, Price Tag and Laserlight). Danny O’Donoghue’s band The Script have three tracks in the Top 200 (The Man Who Can’t Be Moved, Breakeven and For The First Time), while Will.I.Am’s Black Eyed Peas have two (I Gotta Feeling and Where Is The Love). Tuesday’s Official Charts sales flash gives an early indication of where tracks might place in Sunday’s Official Singles Chart, but for a more accurate picture, make sure you return to www.officialcharts.com tomorrow (Wednesday, April 25) at 4:30PM for the Official Update. http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/t...les-chart-1359/
April 24, 201214 yr Shame that "Born To Run" isn't getting as much of a boost from "The Voice" as most of the other songs used on the programme.
April 24, 201214 yr Good to see Calvin #1 at this stage I guess although it'll definitely fall to #2 by the end of the week I think :( I'm pretty sure 'Bounce' and 'Feel So Close' never even got to #1 in the mids though. Three #2 hits in a row though, pretty unlucky.
April 24, 201214 yr id say if calvins no1 in the mids and still gaining he will sell a decent figure this week unless carleys sales are falling from the 115k of last week down to 80k...if not calvin could be on course for 100k this week, very good!!
April 24, 201214 yr So it looks like "Let's Go" is doing a "Bounce". It should stay at #1 for Radio 1's midweek chart before falling to #2 giving Carly Rae Jepsen another week at the top
April 24, 201214 yr I'm just hoping that 'Let's Go' can have a decent top 10 chart run, I'd hate for it to follow suit from Justin Bieber and tumble 02-10 in the absence of a music video. Three consecutive #2s in a row though is actually quite amusing. He's lost out to some big #1s though - Example's 'Changed the Way You Kiss Me' for 'Bounce' and Olly Murs' 'Heart Skips a Beat' for 'Feel So Close' and now Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' for 'Let's Go'.
April 24, 201214 yr Who was the last artist to have 3 consecutive singles peak at #2? I'm pretty sure Kylie and/or Madonna have done this but can't think of anyone else.
April 24, 201214 yr Who was the last artist to have 3 consecutive singles peak at #2? I'm pretty sure Kylie and/or Madonna have done this but can't think of anyone else. Sash have had three number twos in a row in the 90s.
April 24, 201214 yr Author Who was the last artist to have 3 consecutive singles peak at #2? I'm pretty sure Kylie and/or Madonna have done this but can't think of anyone else. Not including the Elvis Re-issues it was Girls Aloud I believe in 2003/4 "Jump", "The Show" and "Love Machine"
April 24, 201214 yr https://twitter.com/#!/screampr That should brighten Juranamo's day :D ==== https://twitter.com/#!/Paulhitsheet Not that they need to sell anything to get there. I fully expected an easy Top 10 debut if Borders could comfortably go Top 75! :D Very good news, should debut higher than Renegades. :D
April 24, 201214 yr Not including the Elvis Re-issues it was Girls Aloud I believe in 2003/4 "Jump", "The Show" and "Love Machine" Actually I have found a more recent one. Manic Street Preachers had consecutive releases The Love of Richard Nixon, Empty Souls and Your Love Alone Is Not Enough all peak at #2 between 2004 and 2007. Elvis had re-releases of Are You Lonesome Tonight, Wooden Heart and Surrender peak at #2 in consecutive weeks in 2005, but of course all had peaked at #1 on previous releases. S Club Juniors also had three consecutive #2s in 2002 - One Step Closer, Automatic High and New Direction. As mentioned, Sash! also had 3 consecutive #2s in 1997. Encore Une Fois, Ecuador, and Stay. These two were particularly unlucky because they never achieved a number 1. If we ignore other songs that the artist has featured on (as we seem to be doing in Calvin Harris' case) Justin Timberlake also had 3 #2s with Like I Love You, Cry Me A River and Rock Your Body (ignoring Work It by Nelly ft. Justin which peaked at #7 and the import of Rock Your Body which peaked at #46) Including re-releases and featured credits, Madonna has actually done this twice. Hanky Panky, Justify My Love and the re-issue of Crazy For You in 1991 and then again in 2003 with American Life, Hollywood and Me Against The Music. And yes, Kylie managed it back in the 1980s. There could of course be more, if anyone knows. Edited April 24, 201214 yr by -SCOTT-
