April 27, 201214 yr Midweek Charts update: XL heading for first ever back-to-back chart-toppers Source: MW 11:09 | Friday April 27, 2012 By Paul Williams XL Recordings is on course to replace itself at the top of the UK artist albums chart for the first time ever this weekend with Jack White succeeding Adele. In the week the record company’s CEO Richard Russell received the Strat award at the Music Week Awards for outstanding achievement XL is heading for number one with White’s debut solo set Blunderbuss. The album was more than 20,000 sales ahead of its nearest challenger, fellow XL artist Adele with 21, up to the end of business on Thursday, according to Official Charts Company Data. The Adele album sat at number one last Sunday, its 23rd week at the top. With two days of trading still to go, White’s album has already surpassed the first-week sales of the last albums by his bands The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. However, Blunderbuss has some way to go to matching the first-week tally of the White Stripes’ last album Icky Thump, which opened with 66,249 sales in 2007, according to the Official Charts Company. Behind the two XL albums in third place is Rufus Wainwright’s newly-released Out Of The Game, while another Polydor album, Lana Del Rey’s Born To Die, remains in its position of four achieved on last Sunday’s chart as Cash Money/Island’s Nicki Minaj drops 3-5 with Pink Friday - Roman Reoaded. Interscope/Polydor at Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe has now broken through 400,000 UK sales as it looks like spending a fourth week leading the UK singles chart this coming Sunday. It was around 9,000 sales ahead by the end of Thursday of its nearest challenger, the newly-issued Columbia single Let’s Go by Calvin Harris featuring Ne-Yo as the Atlantic/Fueled By Ramen-issued We Are Young by fun featuring Janelle Monae stayed in third spot. ========================================= Friday Update Top 39 Only Singles 1 Carly Rae Jepsen (9k ahead) 2 Calvin Harris/Ne-Yo 3 fun./Janelle Monae 4 Conor Maynard 5 Jessie J/David Guetta Top 10 B.o.B Alex Clare Train :cheer: Top 30 Swedish House Mafia Stereophonics [Dakota] 27 Olly Murs [OMG] 28 Drake/Rihanna Top 40 The Fray [HTSAL] Kings Of Leon [uS] U2 [With Or Without You] :o ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Albums 1 Jack White (20k ahead) 2 Adele [21] 3 Rufus Wainwright 4 Lana Del Rey 5 Nicki Minaj Top 10 Olly Murs Feeder Top 15 The Script [TS] Top 20 Maverick Sabre Coldplay [MX] Rizzle Kicks Top 30 The Script [sAF] Alex Clare Santigold The Stereophonics [ADITS: BO] Top 40 Chieftans 33 Rebecca Ferguson Bee Gees NO SALES INFO ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ARTIST UPDATES Singles Nicki Minaj 5+4 Marina And The Diamonds 10+3 Justin Bieber 10+4 Usher 10+10 Katy Perry 20+4 Emeli Sande 20+6 Jessie J [Domino] 20+9 Kelly Clarkson 30+7 Albums Emeli Sande 5+2 Jessie J 5+4 Ed Sheeran 10+3 Adele [19] 10+9 :o Madonna 20+2 One Direction 20+3 Katy Perry 30+6 Rihanna [TAT] 30+9
April 27, 201214 yr For Adele to be #2, sales must be pretty low for #2, I probably estimate just under 19k for the week, Jack White must have a big lead.
April 27, 201214 yr I bet you're not really surprised that Adele is #2. No way she wasn't going to be.
April 27, 201214 yr Interscope/Polydor at Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe has now broken through 400,000 UK sales So that's at least 65k so far this week with 2 sales days still to go, so I'd predict 85-90k for the full week - possibly more, depending on how far past 400k she actually is.
April 27, 201214 yr For Adele to be #2, sales must be pretty low for #2, I probably estimate just under 19k for the week, Jack White must have a big lead. Adele only sold 17k last week, and since her sales have no reason to increase, I dare say she will only sell ~15k this time. On that basis, I'd say mid-30k's for Jack this week. ARTIST UPDATES Singles Marina And The Diamonds 10+3 So, close enough for T10 perhaps, given a big thrust (sales thrust, I mean :P ) from Graham Norton tonight... April 27, 201214 yr Gutted for Calvin :( but I guess it was on the cards, same for Feeder, looks like they're down to the back end of the Top 10 probably number 8 :( On the other hand Jack White 20k ahead of Adele is which means he should be around 40k at the moment. Also I'm glad Train are now Top 10, Drive by has really grown on me :)
April 27, 201214 yr For Carly to do 9K more than Calvin across Wednesday and Thursday alone - which are generally low selling days - is incredible, even if she is now outselling him by about 50%. I reckon Call Me Maybe could do six figures for a fourth week - something which Someone Like You didn't manage.
April 27, 201214 yr So at least 65k and still 2 days remaining :o... Carly night be able to get another 100,000+ for a fourth week.
April 27, 201214 yr U2 still top 40 means it will most likely finish in the frustrating position of 41/42 :( Train to possibly get their highest charting single ever this week or next week then :o
April 27, 201214 yr I hope Train do managed top 10, i like Train but they dont do aswell as i think they should, hopefully the single will get some album sales for them aswell as California 37 is dropping quiet fast unfortunatly. I still think the drops of jupiter era especially should have done so much better than it did.
April 27, 201214 yr So, close enough for T10 perhaps, given a big thrust (sales thrust, I mean :P ) from Graham Norton tonight... Well, it wouldn't be any other way with Graham Norton, would it? :P
April 27, 201214 yr So happy to see Marina sticking around. Would absolutely love to see this do an In For The Kill. Doubt it will happen but any longevity for a Marina single is a good thing. Hope it results in good sales and a good chart position for Electra Heart next week.
