Midweek chart: Marina holding off Lana Del Rey's challenge for No.1 album, Tulisa running away with No.1 single

Source: MW

Marina & The Diamonds' new album Electra Heart is on course to become Sunday's No.1 album in the UK, according to the latest Official Charts Company sales data.

The LP leads its nearest rival, Lana Del Rey's Born To Die, by just under 4,000 units.

Jack White's Blunderbuss, the No.1 on the last Official Charts Sunday, is currently sitting in third spot, ahead of Norah Jones' new album, Little Broken Hearts - another new entry.

Adele's 21 resides at No.5 ahead of Alabama Shakes, whilst Marilyn Manson's comeback LP, Born Villain, is looking good for a Top 10 debut - sitting at No.7 in the Midweeks.

Tulisa's Young leads the Singles Midweek chart, with over 30,000 sales more than Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe to the end of Tuesday. Cover Drive's Sparks is a new entry at No.3.

I wonder if Tulisa would have been #1 if the 'tape' hadn't come out, cos let's face it, it's a very weak single. But on the upside, I can't stand CMM, so i'll be happy to see something different at #1.

What has the tape got to do with the song's success? Was it playing in the background? Now THAT would be promo ;)

Haha. On a different note, it may have helped her get FHM'S Sexiest eoman in the world. Pretty girl yes but not even in the top 50, let alone number one!!

Pretty much everything HausofKubrick. The song is very basic, with not very good vocals. I don't think the song would have been #1 had the video not came out. If I remember correctly, the music video came out a few days after the 'tape', so it was actually great marketing for the song.

Just heard Tulisa's track for the first time. Oh dear. She really can't sing and the lyrics are crap.
Tulisa has over 30k sales more than CMM! Never expected that!

YES. Please stay top 10 Marina <3

Thats not true. She was on the live lounge with Fearne yesterday and BELIEVE me she can sing. Just listen back on iplayer if you dont believe me.

Then why does she sound crap on the studio version?

She's not a great singer. I remember when she sang that Children in Need single which bombed and she was awful. Cheryl Cole bad lol. So I was expecting her to be awful when she sang with Little Mix but she was a lot better than I expected. She's just an average singer though, nothing special.

As has been said countless times people are only going to download the song if they like it and want to listen to it. If anything the sex tape has hindered sales as parents may not want their children listening to her.

We Found Love sold bucket loads, and this isn't too far from that in terms of style/beat. There is obviously a market for this type of music

, and a seperate market for pornography and sex tapes.

I agree that she was brilliant in the live lounge and proved critics wrong!

Drake's album is also back in the top 40 at #40 but has been left out of the update (I don't blame you though, R1 marking re-entries as fallers makes them hard to spot) :P

Massive lead for Tulisa which will only grow as the week goes on, it could sell a good 120k+ at this rate!

Surprised to see 'Sparks' at #3, it's a fair bit behind fun. on iTunes and its EP hasn't sold much at all, it must be close. They'll definitely drop back to #4 by the weekend but that's still far better than I expected at the start of the eek, should have pretty good sales as well considering fun. did 70k+ at #3 last week.

Brilliant to see 'Too Close' top 5, 'Drive By' set to become Train's highest peaker, 'Primadonna' well in contention for top 10 again, 'Titanium' back in the top 15, 'Out The Blue' only falling a place from yesterday (should stay top 25) and 'Higher Love' and 'Daydreamer' both top 30 (hoping for both to stay top 40 throughout the week). Avicii should climb quite a bit by Sunday, yet to hear it though. Not a huge fan of 'Listen', that will probably drop out by the end of the week.

4k is quite a good lead in this sales climate so Marina has a decent chance at holding #1, wouldn't surprise me if Lana go it back though. Very surprised at Jack White staying ahead of Norah Jones, a bit of an underperformance for her (although if this is an underperformance then 'The Fall' is something else )

Marilyn Manson should be on course to beat the #19 peak of 'The High End Of Low' and Mystery Jets may beat the #42 of 'Serotonin'. Woo at Alex Clare continuing to climb quickly and Ben Howard going back up (and Drake back in the top 40 as above).

Go Steps, huge climb this week, a move into the top 20 during the week would be great.
Why the big jump for Rebecca Ferguson when the single has bombed? Has she done promo?
