I would think its success is more due to Lupe than Guy :P Lupe Fiasco always does well on release.
I didn't think he was THAT big but then I don't pay much attention  I just thought it was an amazingly random release to shoot to the top 20 just because a rapper is on it, oh well. Still great for Guy

Taylor did another 307k this week!

Over on the Digital Songs chart, Taylor Swift rests at No. 1 for a second week with "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," selling 307,000 downloads (down 51%). A second-week drop from its whopping 623,000-start was likely inevitable, but the 307,000 figure is still one of the 20 biggest sales weeks of 2012.

Maroon 5's "One More Night" skips 4-2 with 195,000 (up 15%), Flo Rida's "Whistle" drops 2-3 with 180,000 (down 10%), and fun.'s "Some Nights" slips 3-4 with 169,000 (down 7%).

Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen's "Good Time" rises 8-5 with 144,000 (up 13%) while Bieber's "As Long As You Love Me" (featuring Big Sean) holds at No. 6 with 144,000 (up 13%). Jepsen's own "Call Me Maybe" is also steady at No. 7 with 122,000 (down 10%) while Phillip Phillips' "Home" is down 5-8 with 109,000 (down 33%).

Cher Lloyd's "Want U Back" is stationary at No. 9 with 107,000 (down 14%) while Neon Trees hit the top 10 for the first time, as "Everybody Talks" jumps 15-10 with 99,000 (up 10%). For the latter tune, it also breaks into the top 10 on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart (known as Pop Songs on Billboard.com), rising 11-8.

I don't think Swagger Jagger really deserves the hate it got. A few years ago, songs like London Bridge, Hollaback Girl, Promiscuous, etc. were being massive #1s, and those are probably even more trashy than Swagger Jagger imo. I guess those types of songs have gone out of fashion, and to be fair, they did get a lot of hate at the time, but still.

Is it supposed to be ironic that none of those songs made number 1?

Hollaback Girl Hot Digital Songs 1

Hollaback Girl Pop 100 1

Hollaback Girl Pop 100 Airplay 1

Hollaback Girl The Billboard Hot 100 1

Hollaback Girl Top 40 Mainstream 1

Is it supposed to be ironic that none of those songs made number 1?

No, I mean in the US. Those songs were MASSIVE #1s there, and some of the biggest songs of the entire decade, yet Swagger Jagger would probably be hated and flop there, even though it's no more trashy than those songs imo.

Olly #88 :o

OH FOR F***'S SAKE HE ALMOST GOT THAT HIGH WHEN HE WAS FIRST RELEASED CHRIST WHAT A FLOP OLLY IS I HATE HIS LABEL SO MUCH THEY'VE RUINED HIS UNIQUE ARTISTIC IDENTITY.

With Ur Love  #76 - why is Mike Posner not included? I would have thought he'd have a few fans that would have helped sales of the single.

Hmm this doesn't answer the question but go Cher, still managing to score hits without American rappers tacked on. 'Want U Back' has done fine but Astro wouldn't have helped much (not as much as Mike could have potentially).

I think Swagger Jagger has already been released a while ago but it was probably just a promo single so it wasn't sent to radio. I'm sure I saw it low down on the pop chart once.

EDIT: Wiki says it was released on August 1 2011

I find it quite odd how the UK was the country who got tacked on rent-a-rappers and the US didn't and yet Cher flopped here with WUB and did well in the US! It hopefully goes far enough (as well as WUL doing well sans Mike too) to show that rent-a-rappers aren't needed for everything.

Uh, is this sarcasm?

Uh, is this sarcasm?

It is. And it's directed at me which I don't take too kindly to! Umi if you actually bothered to read why I was so pissed off it wasn't at Olly, it was at Columbia. Because they are hopeless with how they've handled him so far.

And Christina Perri's song Distance (which features Jason) is #79 :o They were on the Today show this morning. As annoying as it is to see Jason doing well, seeing Christina get another Hot 100 hit would more than make up for it!

This song got to #21 on iTunes earlier today!

With the Lupe Fiasco/Guy Sebastian song, I read somewhere that Lupe Fiasco is going to use it as a single from his own album, since it's done so well in another country, and his own singles haven't been doing that well. It's worth a try I guess lol.

But to me, it just shows they should have led the era with 'Want U Back' (instead of 'Swagger Jagger') and just completely avoided SJ at ALL possible costs. WUB would have been a little bigger than SJ was, imo. WUL did fine for a second single from her though. Third I would have used 'Beautiful People'.

I really hope 'Distance' can be a biiiig hit. It's such a beautiful song and I prefer the version with Jason. They work so well together.
