'Whistle' is my favourite Flo-Rida track of the era, what a shame it missed #1 :( It could've done it if it had a full first week of sales.

One More Night

Recorded in Los Angeles over the last year, Maroon 5 return with their highly anticipated fourth studio album 'Overexposed'. The new album is a rich, pop-infused collection featuring 10 new tracks. The album was executive produced by Max Martin with additional tracks produced by Benny Blanco and Ryan Tedder.

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine said of the release, "'Overexposed' is definitely one of our most diverse and poppiest albums yet. We had a great time recording it".

Guitarist James Valentine added, "'Moves Like Jagger' was the first time we ever worked with an outside writer, so we decided to try it some more on this record. At this point in our career I think it was a good thing to completely mix up our process and it yielded good results, as well as a more collaborative spirit within the band. We wanted to make something that sounded contemporary with the elements of a lot of early eras of pop music. This is our most pop record ever and we weren't shy about really going for it."

Maroon 5's musicianship and frontman Adam Levine's vocals are as distinct as ever on 'Overexposed', continuing to showcase the band's ability for creating songs that have become part of the pop fabric. Maroon 5 began writing and recording the album during their most recent world tour and the resulting collection is chock-full of undeniable, anthemic melodies. The album includes such stand out tracks as the emphatic single 'Payphone' featuring Wiz Khalifa, the irresistible 'One More Night' and the rythmic ballad 'Beautiful Goodbye.' - HMV

You Can Call Me Al

With Graceland, Paul Simon hit on the idea of combining his always perceptive song writing with the little-heard mbaqanga music of South Africa, creating a fascinating hybrid that re-enchanted his old audience and earned him a new one. It is true that the South African angle (including its controversial aspect during the apartheid days) was a powerful marketing tool and that the catchy music succeeded in presenting listeners with that magical combination: something they'd never heard before that nevertheless sounded familiar.

As eclectic as any record Simon had made, it also delved into zydeco and conjunto-flavoured rock & roll while marking a surprising new lyrical approach (presaged on some songs on Hearts and Bones); for the most part, Simon abandoned a linear, narrative approach to his words, instead drawing highly poetic ("Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes"), abstract ("The Boy in the Bubble"), and satiric ("I Know What I Know") portraits of modern life, often charged by striking images and turns of phrase torn from the headlines or overheard in contemporary speech. An enormously successful record, Graceland became the standard against which subequent musical experiments by major artists were measured. - HMV

2009 Mercury Prize nominees The View release their fourth studio record Cheeky for a Reason. Working alongside producer Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight, Foals), the album was recorded at Liverpool’s Motor Museum Studios, following successful demo sessions at T Pot studios which yielded the tracks for their 2009 debut Hats Off to the Buskers. Songwriters Kyle Falconer and Kieren Webster are given a helping hand by unofficial Kings of Leon fifth member Angelo Petraglia, giving a southern-rock influence to the Scottish outfit’s indie-pop sound. - HMV

Coldplay began working on Mylo Xyloto in 2009, while the band was still in the midst of its multi-year tour in support of Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. Recording sessions stretched from 2009 to 2011, with Brian Eno collaborating with the band on several songs and R&B singer Rihanna lending her vocals to “Princes of China.” Markus Dravs, Daniel Green, and Rik Simpson all shared production credits, too, resulting in a diverse album inspired by industrial rock and electro-pop. Coldplay began debuting the new tracks as early as May 2011, with “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall” kicking off a string of anthemic singles.

Frank Ocean  The highest charting digital-only album ever AFAIK.

Shame Frank Ocean couldn't quite get to #1, the first download-only #1 album will have to wait a bit longer then. If it's got this high on downloads only though it could be really big when the CD comes out. (Haha, 'comes out'. I'm hilarious).

Meh at Newton Faulkner. And ugh at Maroon 5 re-overtaking Lianne :(

The View getting another top 10 album after 'Bread And Circuses' only got to #14 is odd. It's probably got a lower first week sale though (doubt it'll even be 10k, can't remember what BAC sold though).

Black Heart isn't really urban though?

The verses of Don't Wake Me Up are actually okay I've decided, but the chorus is just hideous. Cannot stand that much autotune. Not sure I'd still rank it as the second worst song of the year but it's definitely somewhere in the bottom 10 at least.
