August 17, 201214 yr It's quite nice to see a bit of a clear out with some of those tracks. OUCH at Connor Maynard! There'll be some bounce back next week though, once the Olympic songs drop down / out with many of the tracks pushed down or out of the top 40 climbing back up. I was hoping Skrillex could have held on to a top 40 place this week but I'd imagine the track will be back next week. Hopefully... It should be a good week for sales, the entire top 40 will probably have sold over 10,000 copies this week, possibly a new record for sales in August.

I know, but it'll be refreshing just to not hear them for a week. Some of them have gone stale from overplay.
August 17, 201214 yr Ouch for Conor Maynard indeed, maybe he's the modern day solo McFly? In the band form, we now have Lawson of course.
August 17, 201214 yr Midweek Charts update: Olympics take Sande's album sales to five-month high By Paul Williams Emeli Sande’s Olympics closing ceremony performance has already lifted her album to its highest weekly UK sales in nearly five months with two days of trading still to go. The Virgin-issued Our Version of Events had sold 21,733 copies this week up to the end of business on Thursday, according to the Official Charts Company, lifting it 4-1 on the midweek artist albums listings. That is its highest tally since it sold 24,184 copies in the chart published on March 25 and it will easily beat that total given Friday and Saturday sales this week still need to be added in. Sande’s album is one of a number benefiting at retail from last Sunday’s Olympics farewell with the winners also including Decca/UMC’s two official albums Isles of Wonder – The Opening Ceremony and A Symphony Of British Music. Up to the end of Thursday they were respectively the third and fourth biggest album sellers overall with the list headed by another compilation, EMI TV/UMTV’s Now! 82, and Our Version Of Events in second place. In the artist albums rankings RCA act Paloma Faith moves 5-2 with sales of Fall To Grace up 158% in the week to date, ahead of closing ceremony stars Ed Sheeran and Elbow. Sheeran’s Asylum/Atlantic-issued + climbs 8-3 and Elbow’s 2008 Fiction/Polydor effort The Seldom Seen Kid rises 139-4 thanks to its cut One Day Like This’s inclusion in last weekend’s Olympics swansong. There are new entries cropping up at this stage of the week in fifth and sixth positions from Fiction/Polydor's Spector and RCA's Ryan O'Shaughnessy, while Vertigo/Mercury's Amy Macdonald and Island/Lava's Jessie J are set to move back into the Top 10 this Sunday, the latter thanks to her closing ceremony appearances. Columbia/Roc Nation signing Rita Ora's newly-issued How We Do (Party) has already surpassed 80,000 sales this week on its way to debuting at the top of the singles chart on Sunday, while One More Tunes/Warner Bros track Heatwave by Wiley featuring Ms D is currently ranked second, having debuted at No 1 last Sunday. The latest midweeks top five is completed by three tracks that featured in the closing ceremony: Emeli Sande's Virgin single Read All About It Pt 3 new at three, Fish People/EMI track Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush re-entering at four some 27 years after it was first a hit and Elbow's 2008 Fiction/Polydor hit One Day Like This rising 125-5. from musicweek.com
August 17, 201214 yr Emeli should easily do around 30k this week then, that's not too awful! Probably Bloc Party for #1 next week but I can't see them getting really high sales. Yay at 'The Seldom Seen Kid' now looking likely to finally beat its #5 peak :cheer: If that happens and 'One Day Like This' also sticks in the top 5 (which is less likely as it's now down to #8 and #71 on iTunes) that would be fantastic. Although to be fair, top 10 isn't too shabby for a track that's 4 years old that had seemed to have already reached its sales plateau.
August 17, 201214 yr Does anybody know which Paloma Faith song has made the top 40 in the Friday mids?
August 17, 201214 yr Does anybody know which Paloma Faith song has made the top 40 in the Friday mids? It's 'Picking Up The Pieces'.
August 17, 201214 yr 80k for Rita not bad, she could just fall short under 100k I thought she would do 120k easily.
August 17, 201214 yr I thought she would do 120k easily. It's such a LAME song... sorry, I just don't get the love for her only in the UK, she's flopping hard in the US and rest of the world. She's just not good.
August 17, 201214 yr finally some decent sales, but we'll be back to sub 15 k sales next week after the Olympic fever wears off....
August 18, 201214 yr That's only a 132% increase although I suspect the final week's sales will be closer to a 130% increase than 230% so perhaps around 20,000. How can it be a 132% increase? 232/100 doesn't equal 132% and plus the sales figures for the Friday update are close to the figures that i calculated after the Wednesday update.
August 18, 201214 yr It's such a LAME song... sorry, I just don't get the love for her only in the UK, she's flopping hard in the US and rest of the world. She's just not good. Not true. She has indeed flopped in the US but both How We Do and R.I.P have done decently worldwide, even if neither of them were massive. I agree with not getting the love but then the general public aren't exactly known for bestowing their love on deserving people. Edited August 18, 201214 yr by Umi
August 18, 201214 yr It should be a good week for sales, the entire top 40 will probably have sold over 10,000 copies this week, possibly a new record for sales in August. Not a chance - it would required a 50% increase around the #40 level - and that only ever happens in the week after Xmas.
August 18, 201214 yr How can it be a 132% increase? 232/100 doesn't equal 132% and plus the sales figures for the Friday update are close to the figures that i calculated after the Wednesday update. A 100% increase is doubling sales. If you sold 1,000 copies one week and 2,000 the next sales have increased by 100%. 100% increase is 2x, 200% 3x, 300% 4x... The figures you calculated were for the whole week, they've already been matched by Friday. That would surely indicate you were wrong given it was never going to keep up that increase for the full week anyway...
August 18, 201214 yr finally some decent sales, but we'll be back to sub 15 k sales next week after the Olympic fever wears off.... Bloc Party might have something to say about that. The weeks after are Rita Ora, Vaccines and then The Script and The XX. I think we're fine for now.
August 18, 201214 yr Bloc Party might have something to say about that. It's not exactly a high-profile release, though...
