Because the one thing Radio 1 really want to do is increase the amount of stuff their listeners don't want to hear. That'll really push up their audience figures.

Do you listen to Radio 1? On average, how many songs do they actually play in an hour? :D

I don't listen to daytime Radio 1 that often but I assume you're basing your argument off Chris Moyles, who is by FAR the worst offender. There is more talk than other radio stations but to be honest I'd rather hear a bit of talk and a bit of the DJs' personality along with the music rather than for example Capital's 'play songs with occasional ads and interjections from interchangeable personality-void DJs'.

Totally agree with this. You can't even tell apart the Capital DJs and anyone could do their job and no one could tell the difference. With Radio 1, there is more talk bit with DJs like Scott Mills and (not to everyones taste) Sara Cox I look forward to when they are talking because it's hilarious :P. Of course you want music and I think that they get the right balance. Otherwise you would end up with an exact replica of Capital where songs get overplayed and you can't bear to listen to the songs again.

That happens because the playlist is short, so repetition increases. If the playlist was larger people wouldnt be so bored of hearing the same songs over and over

There's nothing wrong with playing some older tracks though and by this I don't mean the older tracks that are overplayed:p! They can play like older minor hits so its still refreshing.

Anyway with regards to the playlist, while 'I Will Wait' is no way NEAR the excellence of the first album, I'm still pleased for the support that they get.

Delilah's new song is AMAZING btw.

And  at the retro A-list.

I haven't listened to Radio 1 much in a while, but I used to listen to Chris Moyles sometimes on the way to work and there were some occasions where he went 20 minutes without playing a song.

The playlist being smaller could mean lots of things. Either they're going to repeat those same songs even more, they want more time to talk, or they're simply going to spend more time playing non-playlist songs.

'I Will Wait' on the other hand is brilliant, hopefully not too long until it gets released here.

Looks like its not out until 24th September - same day as the album

Woo for Mumford and Example's new tracks both going straight to B-List! :D Also pleasing to see Labrinth's new single go up to B. Hope it does decently.

I remember these songs from when i was in primary school

Have they really not added Taylor Swift after how well it's already doing and the fact they've already been playing it and she's performing at the R1 Teen Awards?

That's exactly what I was gunna say, considering all the random songs of hers they have added over the years. Bit of a slap in the face that they won't be supporting her yet she is coming to support them for their awards.

"Forget" was played in a pub yesterday and I LOVED it, glad to see it added to the playlist !

I think it's a bit early to assume they're snubbing WANEGBT.

This is the problem with On Air/On Sale. Radio 1 aren't doing their bit by playlisting the songs immediately, and so the whole model breaks down (Taylor is the rare exception and is holding up despite this though). And the consumer gets songs 2 months after they are released everywhere else.
Think the thing with djs talking on radio 1 is that shows like the breakfast show are based around music and chat - so moyles brakfast show has alot more talking than say zane low or ferne cotton - and even though Nick Grimshaw plays future hits on his nighttime show now when he moves to the brakfast show he will have to talk alot more and yes play more 'pop' music from the charts because they play the biggest hits during the prime time shows like breakfast and evening drivetime!
