What has quality got to do with anything when talking about overhyping? Apologies if I am being condescending but an example of something being overhyped would be people going on an on about the new Lady GaGa single and how it's for definite going to debut at #1 and then "Born This Way" stalls at #3. Not like in this case, when people are saying that the song "Gangnam Style" is everywhere and is likely to go to #1 and then it does.

But I'm not just talking about quality but sales too. When it flew up iTunes last week a lot of people here were predicting massive sales but it seems the only reason it's going to no.1 is because it's nearest competition has been out for weeks already and are losing steam. I'd have imagined sales of over 100k by the way some posters were talking which is clearly not happening this week so as I first stated, it seems like it was a little overhyped this week. I'm sure it'll sell an awful lot this year however.

 

Perhaps I am completely wrong but I don't really have the time or energy to argue with you. I'm especially not impressed with the teacher dig, what has that got to do with anything? I actually didn't find you condescending until you made am unneeded personal remark like that, but then despite my hard work and training I guess I'm probably just too thick to be a teacher. PSY hasnt sold as much as i thought it would with its rise to no1 but its wasnt held back for weeks like some songs recently have been so it could be a consistent seller for the forthcoming 5/6 weeks. remember gotye didnt sell over 100k but was no1 for 5 weeks and sold strongly over a long period like most OA/OS songs do.

Yeah. Some songs like Poker Face and Love the Way You Lie never sold more than 60,000/70,000 in a week, but they've sold over 1,000,000 in total now.
