'Don't Give Up' remains to this day as one of the most baffling chart toppers in the UK charts. I really don't understand why it was so successful, it was such a lifeless dance track. 'Saltwater' (#6 in 1999) is so much more superior in every possible way.

Perhaps this only did well because Chicane did a remix of 'Cloud #9' for Bryan Adams which got him into the UK top 10.

"No Ordinary Morning" was one of my best songs in 2000. I bought it as cd-single instead of big hits that era..I expected a much better video than it.
I have a HUGE soft spot for 'Pac's Life'! (In the same way as I have a huge soft spot for the ultimate "non-#1" 'Wonderful' by Ja Rule - which Ashanti is also on!!) I definitely preferred 'Ghetto Gospel', but there was just something about PL that I liked!

For those of you who have read my review series of No 2 hits you’ll know I’ve never really got on with Prince, the mind numbingly dull “Most Beautiful Girl In The World” is up there with “I Believe I can Fly” and “Don’t Speak” with the worst No 1’s of the 90s (I have a soft spot for the “Diamonds and Pearls” period though). In the 90s he became increasingly averse to using a melody in his songs and sank deeper into his ego than ever before.

I used to really Taio Cruz, almost everything he did pre 2009 gets a pass in my book and then it all went rather, well, “generic” (to use Buzzjack’s mot de l'année). Quite why he thought this would in any way shape or form appeal to the Christmas market escapes me, perhaps he was waiting to capitalise the barren release schedule come January, anyway all round failure!

I know what you’re thinking right? Who doesn’t wanna hear an urbanised version of the Phil Collins “Classic”- well wonder no more. It couldn’t even interest 20,000 folks within the record buying public of the time thanks to some lacklustre rapping which leaves us all with the general question why?

I remember seeing a short clip of Lil' Kim's 'In The Air Tonite' on CD:UK whilst they previewed some new releases. When they cut back to the studio, the look on Ant's face was genius. Imagine the :kink: smilie without a hand, a sort of "omg, what are you doing" look. Amazing to think 18,000 thought it was worthy of a purchase. Music for people who don't like music. :kink: (oh, there it is again :D )

Indeed Gezza, i think a little bit of Sleigh Bells would give Taio's generic sounds a much needed shake-up :kink:

Given what happened with Prince and Alexandra Burke's singles called 'Let It Go', maybe artists shouldn't release songs with that title!

Taio's choice of single there was dreadful, I'm glad it didn't prevent the brilliant 'Dirty Picture' doing well.

Sounds like at times he sampled some of the Lloyds TSB ad. In his song. Complete utter rubbish for him.

lol Lil Kim is probably on the red light district now or in rehab.

Isn't she in prison?

I don't understand what's so bad about that Lil Kim song. Buzzjack's sampling-phobia coming back out the woodwork again.

Maybe you're right. Devlin and Labrinth did a song called Let It Go a couple of years ago, and it missed the top 40 (although its chart performance was very good by Devlin's standards tbh).

I think it spent a similar amount of weeks in the chart as Runaway and Watchtower, so not too bad actually! :P

Yep the song title 'Let It Go' is cursed! Will Young released 'Let It Go' and it became his first single to miss the Top 40 peaking at #58
