Posted November 9, 201212 yr The BBC have announced some changes to their weekend schedule - including the departure of Reggie Yates and the announcement that Jameela Jamil will be the first female to present the chart show on their own! Jameela Jamil will move from Radio 1’s Request show to present the iconic Radio 1’s Official Chart becoming the first solo female presenter of the Chart Show since it began back in the 1960s as Pick Of The Pops. Jameela who joined Radio 1 earlier this year, will count down the week’s Top 40 songs every Sunday including presenting the last hour in vision on bbc.co.uk/radio1, screening the Top 10 videos in full. Jameela said: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured. I'm fully aware that I have big shoes to fill and am so excited to get started... I've grown up listening to the official chart so I cannot thank Radio 1 enough for the amazing opportunity.” http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnew...d-schedule.html (Also VERY pleasing news about Matt Edmondson taking over 10am-1pm weekend slots )
November 9, 201212 yr The BBC have announced some changes to their weekend schedule - including the departure of Reggie Yates and the announcement that Jameela Jamil will be the first female to present the chart show on their own! I have no idea who she is, but :cheer: :yahoo:  at them finally ditching Reggie!
November 9, 201212 yr I have no idea who she is, but :cheer: :yahoo:  at them finally ditching Reggie! Jameela Jamil presents the request show straight after the chart show. Reggie normally gets her in on thew chart show at about 18:35 for what I think is a long winded chat about her show. Anyway good to see Reggie has finally been axed, it's been a long time coming. The show is probably the poorest radio show currently produced by the BBC. My only hope is the production team will also change to a team that's more passionate about the charts, spend more time researching accurate facts and figures and spend less time messing about talking crap! I'm sure others on here will agree! Edited November 9, 201212 yr by gavindeejay
November 9, 201212 yr I'm so happy they are getting rid of Vernon Kaye. And I've never really listened to Reggie Yates, but his Olympic commentary was dire. "80s pop group Pet Shop Boys..." etc
November 9, 201212 yr I'm so happy they are getting rid of Vernon Kaye. I don't think they're "getting rid of him", it says he's decided not to renew his contract so he can spend more time with his family... But yeah I think everyone on here will be happy Reggie is finally going :D
November 9, 201212 yr Jameela Jamil presents the request show straight after the chart show. Reggie normally gets her in on thew chart show at about 18:35 for what I think is a long winded chat about her show. I tend not to listen to the chart show after about 6.30pm - that allows me to get a head-start on updating my spreadsheets. :) Anyway good to see Reggie has finally been axed, it's been a long time coming. The show is probably the poorest radio show currently produced by the BBC. My only hope is the production team will also change to a team that's more passionate about the charts, spend more time researching accurate facts and figures and spend less time messing about talking crap! November 9, 201212 yr Hmm, maybe a reason to watch online then :kink: There was a time when I absolutely despaired for the chart show with Reggie there, I have since got used to him slightly, but the effort put into it was still poor, with far, far too many mistakes, and no real passion for the charts nor, frankly, the music in it. Good riddance. Edited November 9, 201212 yr by C.W
November 9, 201212 yr I've paid no attention to Jameela before (but I have heard the name) so I just went and googled her... I might join in listening/watching online then again. I never disliked Reggie, but change is good, yes, change is good.
November 9, 201212 yr I'm more pleased at Vernon leaving, he's awful, probably my least favourite R1 presenter. Change is good and I'm not big on Reggie but from what I've heard of Jameela before, she isn't a whole lot better.
November 9, 201212 yr Never disliked Reggie but Jameela should be rather good on this. Interested to hear how it goes, been a while since we had a change.
November 9, 201212 yr The whole Radio 1 line-up change is just perfect! Sarah Cox, Jameela, Matt Edmondson and Dan & Phil all on permanent weekly slots! :cheer:
November 9, 201212 yr Reggie Yates to leave Radio 1 in presenter shake-up Source: MW Tim Ingham BBC Radio 1 has announced headline changes to its weekend schedule, with Vernon Kay and Reggie Yates leaving the station. Elsewhere, Sara Cox will move to present the 10am - 1pm weekday slot currently fronted by Fearne Cotton, who is set to go on maternity leave. Jameela Jamil will become the first solo female presenter of the Sunday Chart Show in its history, replacing Yates. The changes will come into effect at the beginning of January. Kay leaves after nine-and-a-half years at Radio 1. According to the Beeb, he has ‘decided to hang up his headphones to spend more time with his family’. Yates, who has presented Radio 1’s Official Chart for the past 5 years and been at Radio 1 & 1Xtra for 10 years in total, has ‘decided to move on to concentrate on other work including a new documentary series for BBC Three and film projects’. Kay said: “I’ve had an incredible nine-and-a-half years at Radio 1 that has exceeded all of my expectations, it has been a fabulous experience and I’ve loved the weekends I have spent with my listeners. However, when I was offered a contract extension I thought long and hard, but after 12 years of working weekends with CBBC, T4 and Radio 1 I felt it was the right time to leave as the girls are now both in school so weekends are more precious than ever.” Yates said: “I have absolutely loved my time hosting the Chart Show. It’s been a privilege to deliver to the nation the weekly No.1 song, but after 10 years at Radio 1/1Xtra I am looking forward to focusing on other projects and new challenges.” Both will leave the station at the end of the year with Radio 1 having a brand new weekend schedule from the New Year, which will include: Matt Edmondson presenting a new show on weekend mornings from 10am-1pm. Edmonson, who currently presents a Wednesday night comedy show on Radio 1, will take over Kaye’s Saturday show and also from Sara Cox’s Sunday show. Jamil, who joined Radio 1 earlier this year, will count down the week’s Top 40 songs every Sunday including presenting the last hour in vision on bbc.co.uk/radio1, screening the Top 10 videos in full. The Sunday night Radio 1 Request show will now be fronted by ‘YouTube sensations’ Dan and Phil who will have a brand new fully visualised show between 7-9pm, interacting with listeners and playing the music they want. This brand new show along with the last hour of the charts will make Sunday evenings a ‘fully visual experience’ on Radio 1 from 6-9pm. The pair’s online videos have seen them clock up more than 100 million views and attract almost one million subscribers to their respective YouTube Channels Danisnotonfire and AmazingPhil. They have previously presented shows for Radio 1 including a Christmas special featuring a mixture of music and visual joy. Completing the new schedule is comedian Tom Deacon, who will present a brand new Wednesday night comedy show at 9pm each week. Ben Cooper, Controller BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra, said: “I’d like to thank Vernon and Reggie who have both been excellent ambassadors for Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra during their ten years with us. I wish them all the very best. “I’m excited by our brand new shows, which will appeal to the smart phone generation with our audience able to listen, watch and share Radio 1’s great content.” ===================== Thank f*** for that, but the next presenter is hardly a chart nerd. They could have gave it to Scott Mills or Greg James.
November 9, 201212 yr Is Jamil qualified to be a chart presenter?? She doesnt sound like she will know her charts - probabaly given it to another 'presenter' rather than a music lover!!!
November 9, 201212 yr Is Jamil qualified to be a chart presenter?? She doesnt sound like she will know her charts - probabaly given it to another 'presenter' rather than a music lover!!! Neither does Reggie to be fair. Greg James would have been my choice, but obviously he's rather busy throughout the week. I don't dislike Jameela so I'm happy to give her a chance. She cannot possibly be any worse than Reggie who I literally cannot bear. Thank God he's finally going.
November 9, 201212 yr Disappointed that Phily Taggart hasn't been given a permanent show, but it'll be interesting to see how Jamil does during the chart show. This brand new show along with the last hour of the charts will make Sunday evenings a ‘fully visual experience’ on Radio 1 from 6-9pm. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of radio?
November 9, 201212 yr She seems more professional than Reggie. We'll see how it goes. I actually haven't listened at all since September due to just having better things to do.
November 9, 201212 yr I actually didn't mind Reggie, at least he wasn't quite as annoying as Fearne - or the godawful nadir pairing of JK & Joel which made the chart unlistenable for a few years. Hopefully Jameela will be a good replacement.
November 9, 201212 yr Jameela is far from the best candidate to replace him but I have no doubt she'll be miles better than Reggie. Long, long overdue axing.
