November 9, 201212 yr Meat Loaf's 'Piece Of The Action - The Best Of' is probably close to the 300k mark (275k-ish in March) without going any higher than #56. He seems to be the king of stealth selling.
November 9, 201212 yr Step One was the album that came to my mind when i saw this thread. Manic Street Preachers were # 1 with "This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours" in that week + they also were over Steps - "One For Sorrow" with "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next" in singles chart. Edited November 9, 201212 yr by AlexRange
November 9, 201212 yr I didn't think Will's 3rd album Keep On was going to be successful as it had a bit of a shaky start 2-12-20 but it rallied after 2nd single "All Time Love" was rushed to radio and the album went on to sell just over a million, the first single from an album is not always the one to get an album going.
November 9, 201212 yr I think there were quite a few from the mid-noughties by bands with their first albums who had lower selling second albums that made #1. The Feeling's great Twelve Stops And Home and The Kooks' Inside In/Inside Out spring to mind!

November 9, 201212 yr Nelly Furtado - Loose sold over a million and only peaked at #4 if I'm correct.
November 9, 201212 yr All of Alicia Keys albums (bar 'Element' as that is close to a million, but hit number 1) have been huge sellers. 'Songs In A Minor' is well over a million despite "only" peaking at #6 'The Diary of Alicia Keys' - unsure of total sales but the chart run for it is impressive to say it's a #13 peaking album! 'As I Am' - again, unsure of total sales but it spawned 'No One' and the chart run was again, very impressive all things considered. Peaked at #11. --- Rihanna 'A Girl Like Me' has sold upwards of 600k I believe! When ever sales of this album gets mentioned I always seem to be surprised it has sold so much. Peak = #5 'Rated R' has been a very strong seller too! 600k+ and it peaked at #9! --- Timbaland 'Shock Value' has surely also done well. Peaked at #2 but wouldn't surprise me had sales gone to 800k+.
November 9, 201212 yr Not exactly huge sales, but considering their peaks and initial chart runs, they are huge in comparison. Rihanna - Music of the Sun #35 Plan B - Who Needs Actions When You Have Words? #30 Both have sold WELL over 100k.
November 9, 201212 yr also In the Zone only peaked @ #13, but had decent sales 530,000+ still very very sad to see that such a brilliant record never reached top 10 in UK.
November 9, 201212 yr I think Love.Angel.Music.Baby hasn't been mentioned (#4, over a million) iirc There are loads of big sellers that reached only top 5/10 but much less of those who didn't go higher than top 20.. Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday is a platinum seller but reached only #16. Destiny's Child's The Writings on the Wall is certified at least double-platinum but peaked at #10.
November 9, 201212 yr I believe Stevie Wonder's The Definitive Collection (#11) has sold over one million. Also Barry White's The Collection has sold one million I think with a peak of #5. It entered the Top 10 in 1988, 2000 (February and November), then just one place off in 2003.

Rihanna - Music of the Sun #35 Plan B - Who Needs Actions When You Have Words? #30 Both have sold WELL over 100k. Kelly Clarkson's Thankful peaked at #41, but has gone on to sell close to, if not over, ~150k. I wonder what the highest selling non-top 40 album is.

November 9, 201212 yr David Guetta's had 2 massive albums ('One Love' and 'Nothing But The Beat') however they only peaked at #2! Nothing But The Beat was unlucky to be stopped by three massive non-#1s ('I'm With You', 'Sonik Kicks' and 'MDNA') One Love was stopped by Arctic Monkeys' 'Humbug' (only spent 5 weeks T40 despite 2 weeks at #1 :o) Edited November 9, 201212 yr by ♪ Thermometer ♫
November 9, 201212 yr Meat Loaf's 'Piece Of The Action - The Best Of' like I said is probably a strong contender :P Sorry didn't read that  It would be interesting to compile a list of the top 40, non-top 40 biggest selling albums or something. Jessie J - Who You Are, if 700k+ (UK sales) is considered big selling. It's sold over 1.1mil so far :P
November 9, 201212 yr Slipknot's self-titled début only made #37 but it's their highest seller and the only one of their four to make platinum despite the other three making #1, #5 and #2.
November 10, 201212 yr Tbh greatest hits aren't surprising they have high sales and low-ish peaks, the whole point of them is to trickle sell over the years as new and old fans spark interest again in the artist as they release new material or get publicity for whatever. Rihanna's Rated R being over 700k for a peak of #9 is amazing given the poor state of album sales these days.
November 10, 201212 yr And that was a bad thing? :P Yes, it was a bad thing. Steps have 5 singles, which were # 2 (include awesome "One for Sorrow" and especially their best "It's the Way You Make Me Feel") and only 2 # 1 (I love Steps, but "Stomp" is their worst song).
