Imagine the renewed interest in charts if something got to number 1 that wasn't for the kids.
Adele & Florence are for kids?

REALLY?

I do see Charlie's point (you know how much I love Britney).

I genuinely believe, that 'Baby One More time' is the highest of the highs, when considering both artists respective back catalogues (and it'll probably never be topped), but if we were to list them in a top 10, apart from that, 'Toxic' and 'Oops I Did It Again' the rest of them would be compiled by Rihanna. If we were to keep going with the list though, Rihanna would probably occupy the bottom 4 or 5 slots though. 'SOS', 'Umbrella', 'Rude Boy', 'Only Girl', 'What's My Name?', 'We Found Love' and 'Diamonds' (it's making it's way up there) would probably consist of the rest of the top 10. I feel (although not as big as BOMT which I'd personally put at number 1) they've had a much bigger impact than majority of Britney's singles, culturally. But like I said, Britney's lows are not as low as Rihanna's lows, so it's about even...

IMO I see only Umbrella and We Found Love as the songs from her which could be classics in a few years. Maybe Diamonds but it's really too early for that one.

Also don't forget when Rihanna started that was a born of digital era... And Britney never really overexposed her music (promo wise) in digital era.

what are classic songs from someone who's on music scene 7 years?

Unfaithful

Umbrella

Dont Stop The Music

Disturbia

Rude Boy

Only Girl

S&M

We Found Love

Love The Way You Lie

Jonjo summed it up rather well. Just as a point of comparison, "I'm A Slave 4 U" would probably edge it into the top half dozen of Britney's back catalogue (decent seller, remembered today, chosen for that Glee episode etc.) yet I could name about ten Rihanna songs more celebrated. In fact, someone already has. ^

Speaking as someone who dosen't like Rihanna or Britney...

I can name around 8 Britney tracks and only 5 Rihanna tracks.

I think the general public would have a little more awareness of Britney, not that either of them can be classed alongside Madonna or Kylie yet.

Really? Like in the last 7 years you've been able to avoid these:

- Pon De Replay

- SOS

- Unfaithful

- Umbrella

- Dont Stop The Music

- Hate That I Love You

- Disturbia

- Take a Bow

- Rehab

- Live Your Live

- Run This Town

- Russian Roulette

- Rude Boy

- Te Amo

- Love The Way You Lie

- Whos That Chick

- Only Girl

- Whats My Name

- S&M

- California King Bed

- Cheers

- Take Care

- Princess Of China

- We Found Love

- Where Have You Been

- Diamonds

and now Stay.

All of those where a hit in the UK.... and anyone that is aware of new music knew or at least had heard of all of those

anyway this isn't a discussion thread on Rihanna, so please take it to the appropriate forum if you wish to continue.

I don't think any of these are that widely known at all these days and certainly wouldn't come up if you asked someone to name a Rihanna song off the top of their head.

(I'll stop now, sorry)

I dont remember the tunes to any of these.

Lol at ppl calling these recent songs "classic" the word is thrown around too quickly when hearing songs, to become or even considered a "classic" an amount of time has to pass and then maybe if it`s still remembered then it can be called a "classic" don`t try tell me a song released a matter of weeks or a year ago are "classics"

Have I just entered a new time dimension through a space rift, some strange anomalies in here.

Sorry - I'm aware of six of them - I missed out on Don't Stop the Music initially - thats the Michael Jackson one isn't it? I see that I don't know any Rihanna ballads. I've no interest to back and listen to them.

The OC C are now saying that they are not changing the rules just because it is David Bowie. They say in a tweet that Madonna (to use their example) would have charted if they had been given the data

"The rules are the same this week as they were for MDNA.If sales data is delivered to us from the retailer, it will be counted"

Guys can we stay on topic, otherwise I will close the topic until tomorrow morning.
Look how big Steps and S Club seven were.. where are they now? 7 years is f*ck all. Fans can get bored when something new comes along.

Louise Malloy - why won't you LEARN? :(
