15 albums in 18 years? And people complain when Rihanna and JLS churn out album after album

Chris Brown released albums in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 as well.

Pitbull has also released albums in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and I assume he'll release one next year too.

It's good though. Maybe people like Nelly Furtado and Christina Aguilera would still be huge today if they had done that.

In fairness the majority of those albums were Greatest Hits and Live compilations rather than studio albums.

Most of the Bowie releases since then have been either compilations or re-issues (including Ziggy Stardust three times).

It's how people used to do it before they realised that far more money was to be made from touring. The difference is that in those days not every album was an "event album" like we get with Rihanna where we're supposed to get excited every twelve months for the same recycled faux-R'n'B.

Those two acts (even though I quite enjoy Rihanna), should never be brought up in comparison to Bowie. Especially when you compare artistic merit between the three.

Says the person with Britney in their sig..

Oh they should just create a rule where you can only download an entire album and not individual tracks. Or was that the case before hand?

Record companies dare not do that now - piracy would increase dramatically...

I just think 'Where Are We Now?' has struck a major (no pun intended) chord with the majority of people who have heard it. I personally think there's a strong fragile and emotional aspect to the song.

If that means 'boring', then I agree... ;)

I've liked *some* of Bowie's music over the years, but he has changed style so often that it's virtually impossible to like all of it.

What an idiotic thing to say..

I'm far more excited about a new Rihanna single nowadays than a new Bowie track if it sounds like this. When I hear it I keep going into November Rain or For Whom the Bell Tolls from the Beegees.

Love the Bowie song, oh and Britney beats Rihanna everytime, she's had far more classic songs then Rihanna who's only had one song that I would call a classic- Russian Roulette

In my mind that fits better.

The fact that Bowie's song is now on spotify and napster makes we wonder even more why it couldn't have been a normal single release

Wow except I'm sure most people would disagree. Good god.

Oh and Scream & Shout has been increasing fast today. It's 0.9476 combined and Bowie is 1.0406.

Well Rihanna's success in the last eight years says otherwise...

what are classic songs from someone who's on music scene 7 years?

So David Bowie will chart after all.

It would be fantastic for the charts if he managed to go number 1 this week (I know it's highly unlikely though).

Imagine the renewed interest in charts if something got to number 1 that wasn't for the kids.

I do see Charlie's point (you know how much I love Britney).

I genuinely believe, that 'Baby One More time' is the highest of the highs, when considering both artists respective back catalogues (and it'll probably never be topped), but if we were to list them in a top 10, apart from that, 'Toxic' and 'Oops I Did It Again' the rest of them would be compiled by Rihanna. If we were to keep going with the list though, Rihanna would probably occupy the bottom 4 or 5 slots though. 'SOS', 'Umbrella', 'Rude Boy', 'Only Girl', 'What's My Name?', 'We Found Love' and 'Diamonds' (it's making it's way up there) would probably consist of the rest of the top 10. I feel (although not as big as BOMT which I'd personally put at number 1) they've had a much bigger impact than majority of Britney's singles, culturally. But like I said, Britney's lows are not as low as Rihanna's lows, so it's about even...
