It's interesting what they said about streaming, because last year they said they'd never include it because it's not "sales".

Streaming would be cool, although a downside is that it would make the charts even slower. It would make it more difficult for songs to debut high as well.

How would it work though? Wouldn't it be like counting every single time I played a certain song that week? Nice to see Fall Out Boy top 5.

Artistically speaking, it's pointless. And really, it's hardly a duet, sounding as it does like a Will.i.am song with some Britney bits tacked in.

Aren't 90% of duets pointless artistically speaking? and the official credit is "Featuring Britney Spears" so that's about right.....

no Courteeners :o

no Courteeners :o

I know! I thought they would be 5 at the very lowest!

Oh dear at The Courteeners, so much for it being their highest peaking album then. Really wasn't expecting them to fall THAT far! Reminiscent of Maxïmo Park's last album actually...

Shame at Biffy still being at #3 despite The Courteeners dropping but then Jake Bugg was #1 on iTunes pretty much all week. (Anyone know why his album and singles have been climbing this week anyway?)

Yes, but this is one of those cases where Britney could go uncredited and no one would bat an eyelid, as she's barely audible in the song. Kind of like that Alicia Keys single, "Unthinkable", where Drake was credited for a single line. It's a marketing thing, through and through.

I don't think they will do it until they need to i.e. when sales start crashing because everyone is streaming.

I do think this will happen. When we get ridiculously fast internet, and in our cars, everywhere.. we'll just stream everything. What will be the point in owning the actual file? Well the only point would be is if you already own all the songs you could ever want, not interested in new chart music (or know where to get MP3s for free), and don't want to pay a subscription for songs you already own. Which will probably be people like me. But regular people - well they're already turning to subscription services. Download sales cannot keep going up and up forever.

What do people think of Jameela? I think she sounds really amateurish and not like a chart show host at all. She's less irritating than Reggie, but I don't feel like I'm listening to the top 40 any more. And the production of the show is crap too. It sounds like a student radio show.

How would it work though? Wouldn't it be like counting every single time I played a certain song that week? Nice to see Fall Out Boy top 5.

Yeah, essentially. That's why songs would hang around longer in the chart, because you can only buy a song once, but you can keep listening to the song for years.

On some streaming sites though they have a limit to the amount of streams per person per song per week, to prevent people spamming their favourite tracks.

It would also help album artists in the singles chart though. Because when people stream their albums, the individual songs they stream would count to the singles chart. When Mumford & Sons released their album, almost their' whole album went top 100 because of high streaming.

Why do I get the feeling this FOB Top 5 placing was more down to fanbase rallying than anything else? But hey, maybe I'll be proven wrong next week and the song does hold up there.

She does more than 1 line and I think people would bat their eyelids.

Well, I'm not going to stop wanting to own a copy of the music I like, whether it be physical or virtual format.
