Listened to KMO for first time in a long while tonight

Let's be honest it's a really good album.

Catchy songs galore and some good tempo tunes.

You may slate Sexy Love but it's a real pop bop. Catchy as hell, let's hope Magic by the same team is catchy too

Fine, Million Miles, Feels So Good all solid quality tunes

Sleeping with Enemy is lovely

Sexercise should have been bigger

I agree that Kiss Me Once is a good album! It's not her most innovative album, it's not particularly cohesive and it doesn't appear to have a particular theme/narrative, but that's okay.

There's some really well produced and slick songs to be found on Kiss Me Once (that does not include Beautiful... the processed vocals are ineffective, and spoiled what could have been a potentially lovely ballad!). I really enjoy Kiss Me Once (the song - that chorus is epic and heartfelt!), Feels So Good, If Only and in particular I love Fine... I appreciate the message of the song, and I feel her emotion in her vocals. They're my album track highlights. The other album tracks are all at least pretty catchy and serviceable.

Into the Blue made for a fantastic lead single, and for me it's up there as one of her best singles of the 2010s. I didn't think the music video was a good fit for it though.

With the passing of time, I don't even think I Was Gonna Cancel is a bad song per se. It was a bad single choice though, and that definitely affected my feelings about the song for a long time. If it had been left as an album track and we'd never had that music video, I'm sure it wouldn't have left such a bad taste in my mouth!

Critics mostly assessed this album positively too, which is at odds with the fan base's negative reaction (a reaction that I feel was a belated one, developed after the era was perceived to be a commercial under-performance / fans sensed that Kylie herself didn't seem into it - personally I'm not one to let an artist's view of their own work colour how I feel about it). Funnily enough it was slightly better received critically than Golden was.

I'll always stand up for this album :P

Other than Body Language, Kylie for me has never made a bad album, it’s just a meh album. It’s has some great songs but also a lot of meh average moments

One of the best things about Kiss Me Once is how much it sparks debate between the fans. We are all so accustomed to perfection.

There are some truly great moments on the album. But imo many of its weaknesses lie with production and management decisions. They did Kylie dirty.

I'd say it's a half good album, in hindsight.

I kind of wish it was more in the direction of the Sleepwalker EP (like Glow, Break This Heartbreak etc).

Kylie has NEVER made a bad album per say, even her not so great albums such as 'Body Language' or even 'Kiss Me Once' - both of which have several great tracks. However I'd still say that 'KMO' is Kylie's worst studio album, it was just very bland & the questionable choices (regarding singles, tracklisting, promo etc..) made during this era.

How in the hell such great songs like 'Skirt', 'Sparks', 'Waiting For The Sun' & 'Voodoo' were all left off, as well as 2 of the most strongest tracks 'Mr President' & 'Sleeping With The Enemy' were only on the deluxe edition. If the 4 previous tracks were included & maybe bump off some of the awful weak tracks such as 'I Was Gonna Cancel', 'Sexercise', 'Beautiful' &'Fine' (I know the latter is well liked, but sorry never clicked with me), then this album could have been pretty great.

01. Into The Blue
02. Million Miles
03. Mr President
04. Sexy Love
05. Waiting For The Sun
06. Feels So Good
07. If Only
08. Les Sex
09. Kiss Me Once
10. Sparks
11. Voodoo
12. Sleeping With The Enemy
13. Skirt
14. Crystalize
One of my all time favourite Kylie albums - I have never understood the sheer level of hate it got and still gets. There are of course some duds and missteps on the album but overall it’s really solid IMO.

 to all of this.

Completely agree with a lot of what you've said Jay, and yes it certainly has always seemed to me that the negative reaction from fans only came after it under-performed and the knowledge that it's not something Kylie was fully behind.

Personally for me, there's so much to enjoy on the album. There's perfect pop, there's beautiful ballads and they all still retain a piece of classic Kylie while sounding fresh at the time. The likes of Into the Blue, Sexy Love, If Only, Kiss Me Once, Fine (yes, Fine is a fabulous song - I'll back Jay up on that!!), etc. are all brilliant.

 Yesss at this Kiss Me Once stanning *.*

I like the album enough that I bought a used copy of the vinyl on eBay for £55 back in 2018   I wish I'd caught the vinyl bug a few years earlier than I did! Although earlier this month it sold for £86 on eBay :o (I find it so crazy that Parlophone still haven't pressed or reissued her albums).

With body language which I'm not a great fan of has a couple of highlights but kiss me once I really only like into the blue and les sex, crystallize would have helped me take to the album a bit more if it had been added as it's better than most of the songs on the album.

Kiss Me Once is Kylies most divisive among the fanbase.

It was a low point in her career and half hearted from Kylie in its delivery.

I don’t think kiss me once is a great album. It didn’t deserve to do well. Yes, it includes some decent enough tracks like into the blue, kiss me once, if only and feels so good. However, I don’t like I was gonna cancel, sexercise or les sex. A million miles, sexy love and beautiful are okay but just average. I do like the bonus tracks particularly sleeping with the enemy.

I feel like on songs like 'Fine' and 'Feels So Good' she does that high-pitched waily thing with her voice that I don't like. The title track is also quite shrill and could perhaps be taken down a key, 'Million Miles' is the very definition of album filler, 'Beautiful' is a potentially nice ballad ruined by that vocoder effect and 'Sexercize' has that cheap dubstep-lite sound that was popular in 2012.

I do enjoy 'Sexy Love' a lot, it's funky and a slice of flirtatious fun (although I get the critcisms of "generic" and "phoned in"), 'Les Sex' is a bop and has the essence of Kylie, 'I Was Gonna Cancel' is a nice quirky album track that should have remained so and not been a single, 'If Only' has stood the test of time and proven a grower for me since the album's release, I think 'Into The Blue' is a really strong single from her, 'Sleeping With The Enemy' is gorgeous (and probably wouldn't sound that out of place on Dannii's 'Girl') and 'Mr. President' is definitely OUT THERE, but a nice addition as a bonus track.

I'll always have fond memories of the era though, as I saw her 3 times in 2014 and it was special. I thought the tour was good! Although obviously much downscaled from the epic grand spectacle of Aphrodite.

Would love KMO to eventually go Gold - far to good to be stuck at Silver selling status!
Are sales coming close to 90,000.

It's likely to have exceeded that by now! Its sales were 89,185 up to 26th July 2019. Since the update prior to that, it sold 40 copies a week on average. If it continued to sell that much, it would be on over 91,000 by now, approaching 92,000. At this rate it would go Gold in October 2024.
