Why do the same songs keep getting performed on Britains Got Talent/The Voice/X-Factor? I mean, fair enough songs like 'Red' and 'Read All About It' are good ballads to show off a voice but there's sooooo many songs out there, why is it always the same ones (and why do they always need to go top 40 too?).

Bored of seeing Ordinary People and Iris back all the time. I'm just waiting on Firework or Price Tag rocketing up the charts next.

I agree. There are so many songs out there that would suit talent show performances yet aren't being recognised. 'Iris', 'Skinny Love' and 'Fast Car' to name a few are always getting performed and it is just all so uninspired. Fair enough, Matt Henry gave an exceptional performance of 'Skinny Love' but there's no excuses for the other contestants.
I know on American Idol that when they have a wide theme like 'Then and Now' they actually have a list to choose from rather than choosing anything from then and now, so I don't know perhaps it's the same for The Voice, X-Factor etc. over here? That or it could just be people see successful auditions with these kind of songs and decide they must use it too.
The singles chart is getting very soapy with all those rock ballads waiting to chart top 40.

LOL, 'soapy'. I love you Mikey

I'd long for the day where underrated gems like (for example) 'Wildest Moments', 'Limit to Your Love' or 'Losing You' get some kind of unlikely talent show performance boost (but even something like, say, Katy B's "Broken Record" shouldn't be TOO much of a stretch, right?)

I'd love to see that back in the charts!

I too would love to see Solange's 'Losing You' performed (assuming that's the song you meant). I know I always say this but Frank Ocean's 'Thinkin' Bout You' and 'Bad Religion' are both suited to talent shows (although I'd hate for them to be molested on the show). Oh and also Stevie Wonder's 'Redemption Song'.

Or even Bob Marley's "Redemption Song"

Isnt there contract issues with singing songs on these talent shows hence the same ones being used each year on each show?

What? This is the first time 'Red' has received a proper, benefitial boost from a talent show, isn't it? So I don't think it's fair to include that song in amongst the likes of 'Read All About It', 'Iris', 'Skinny Love' et al.

Surprising that 'The Voice' has actually gone this way though. They actually had some pretty fantastic, inspired choices last year! ('Dakota' being the main one!)

Some nice 90's RnB, better than anything The Saturdays have released. Should be much higher.

Tis on an advert for a Samsung TV thing

Re: "Dakota", I recall that being such an obvious/safe choice for the singer.

Sniggered to myself when I heard Abi sing "Iris", but it is a great song; and she performed it well. Forgot how great Heart's "Alone" sounds too, the Alyssa Reid version had a real anthemic sound.

I'm surprised that Union J are looking likely of peaking #04-#05 this week, I thought they would get top 3 comfortably! I was surprised to not see them perform on BGT as their with Syco.

Finally heard this song for the first time in a club. It sounds just the same as the studio version. It's weird how some songs sound just like thier normal versions, and others songs sound almost completely different.

ISTM that people on talent shows are only going to cover songs they know well - and if they they keep haerng the same old songs, that's what they'll go with - it's a loop... :)

In any case, given the audience the show is aimed at, anything too radical is likely to lose you votes.
