I would imagine its seen as a transition song o the darker material on the new album.

I love it. It's very much below most of her previous ingles currently, but is still fantastic.

This reminds me of something that would be on glee, a kind of kid friendly empowerment song. It's catchy but Ms. Perry needs t learn what a more "Mature" sound means, it seems to be a regression with each album.
Don't write her off yet. Roar doesn't account for the whole album, so there must obviously be some other songs in there with a more mature sound than Teenage Dream had.

I'm not quite the Katy fan, but as simple as this song is, it's massive. I see it being like one of those Somebody That I Used To Know/Titanium/Some Nights/Wake Me Up type of hands-in-the-air EVERYONE-likes songs.

But on the contrary, Gaga could quite easily top this.

Just to confirm, is the video coming out tomorrow or just the (seemingly everywhere except UK) download?

Well this is a little bit fabulous.

ROOO-OOO-OOO-AAAR *.*

I don't know why everyone is going on about how it's not mature, it's hardly the most immature thing ever.

Exactly, some of the feedback I've seen online makes it sound like it's on a Milk Milk Lemonade level

This gets better everytime I listen to it. I'm hoping she'll deliver a killer debut live performance

This is yet to happen unfortunately and with her live singing capabilities I doubt it ever will.

Somebody missed her 'The One That Got Away' XF performance :o (But like Rihanna, she seems to be improving the more live performances she does).
WELL WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IT. On a few more listens, I am LOVING this and now I'm getting what it's about. I think this is going to be the female empowerment comeback anthem of the end of the year, just like We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together from last year.

She had the most commercial success with Firework, so good that she's recorded another like it.

Why does she have to 'top this'? All this rivalry over the two releases is so unnecessary! Gaga's even retweeted a post made that's like 'I don't want rivalry, this is a big quarter for pop music', I hope Applause is just as good.

I'm loving this ! <3

I am glad she hasn't gone "dark" and such, this song is very "Katy Perry" but still a move from her previous singles.

Oh and I get Natasha Bedingfiel vibes from this song! It's typically the kind of uplifting single Natasha would release (Unwritten, Pocketful of sunshine, Touch, Strip me...). The instrumental too is very NB in my opinion.

So yay, QUEEN KATY to rule the (pop)world ! :cheer:

The Monsters love to make beef. I actually got a copy of 'Roar' from a Gaga fansite and some of the trash the fans were throwing at every other female artist releasing this quarter was frankly disturbing.
Well the rivalry is obviously what Katy's label are going at. After the release date of 'Applause' was announced, bam out of nowhere 'Roar' has a release date just one week before 'Applause'. I know it's not Katy and all, but her label really like showing Katy off chartswise. Look at the last era where all the high budget remixes were added to ET/Last Friday Night/The One That Got Away just so that they'd get #1. And now it seems as if they WANT a rivalry with Gaga this era.
How far apart were they announced? I'd hardly say 'Roar' came "out of nowhere", we knew Katy was releasing in the latter half of this year and it was probably planned before 'Applause' was fully announced.

The competition is surely a good thing for both artists? I mean look at the attention they're each getting even here!

I've seen stuff coming from both fanbases (like a campaign to sabotage Applause when it's released / general disdain to Katy from Gaga fans) but in the general scheme of things the trolls don't amount to much and most people just care that they're getting new music from two of the biggest stars around right now.

And anyway both fanbases should be teaming up together to overthrow Robin Thicke in the US instead :drama:
